    Abstract
The rising velocity of air bubbles in surfactant solutions is a sensitive measure for the formation of a dynamic adsorption layer (DAL) at the bubble surface. Due to a certain surface coverage by adsorbed species the bubble surface starts to become immobilized and the rising velocity is retarded. There is a large difference in the retardation effect in presence of the protein β-lactoglobulin (BLG) alone and its mixed solutions with surfactants. In presence of added surfactants BLG forms complexes, which adsorb and retard the bubble rising velocity according to their respective surface activity and adsorption kinetics. While the nonionic surfactant C12DMPO does not show significant increase...

In this work, it was tried to increase the hardness of surface without considerable degradation of copper's particular physical properties such as electrical conductivity. The effect of current density on microstructural homogeneity, hardness, fracture toughness, and electrochemical behavior of coating was investigated. The copper plates with the purity of 99.99% were used as electrodes. The electrolyte consists of tungsten carbide particles (30 g/l), copper sulfate (200 g/l), sulfuric acid (50 g/l), cobalt sulfate (50 g/l), and Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) (0.3...

Insight into the behavior of colloidal gas aphron (CGA) fluids at elevated pressures: an experimental study

    , Article Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects ; Volume 537 , January , 2018 , Pages 250-258 ; 09277757 (ISSN) Pasdar, M ; Kazemzadeh, E ; Kamari, E ; Ghazanfari, M. H ; Soleymani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2018
    Abstract
Recently, colloidal gas aphron (CGA) fluids technology has been employed to drill depleted oil and gas reservoirs. Almost all reported experience on CGA fluids were conducted at ambient conditions, and little attention has been paid on the behavior of CGAs at high pressures which is more close to real conditions. In this study, high pressure experiments were conducted by using High Pressure Microscope cell to visualize/monitor the behavior of CGAs at elevated pressures. Single bubble behavior and bubble size distribution (BSD) of CGAs were investigated under different scenarios of pressure change. Results of experiments revealed that BSD of CGAs is controlled by the path of pressure changes,...

Extraction of hydroxyapatite nanostructures from marine wastes for the fabrication of biopolymer-based porous scaffolds

    Abstract
Three-dimensional porous nanocomposites consisting of gelatin-carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) cross-linked by carboxylic acids biopolymers and monophasic hydroxyapatite (HA) nanostructures were fabricated by lyophilization, for soft-bone-tissue engineering. The bioactive ceramic nanostructures were prepared by a novel wet-chemical and low-temperature procedure from marine wastes containing calcium carbonates. The effect of surface-active molecules, including sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), on the morphology of HA nanostructures is shown. It is demonstrated that highly bioactive and monophasic HA nanorods with an aspect ratio > 10 can be synthesized in...

Studies of the rate of water evaporation through adsorption layers using drop shape analysis tensiometry

    , Article Journal of Colloid and Interface Science ; Volume 308, Issue 1 , 2007 , Pages 249-253 ; 00219797 (ISSN) Fainerman, V. B ; Makievski, A. V ; Krägel, J ; Javadi, A ; Miller, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
With modified measuring procedure and measuring cell design in the drop profile tensiometer PAT, it became possible to study the rate of water evaporation through adsorbed or spread surface layers. This method was employed to measure the rate of water evaporation from drops covered by adsorbed layers of some proteins and surfactants, in particular n-dodecanol. It was shown that the formation of dense (double or condensed) adsorbed layers of protein and the formation of 2D-condensed n-dodecanol layer decrease the water evaporation rate by 20-25% as compared with pure water. At the same time, the adsorbed layers of ordinary surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulfate and nonionic ethoxylated...

    Abstract
In this paper, the dissolution and mobilization of non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) blobs in the Surfactant-Enhanced Aquifer Remediation (SEAR) process were upscaled using dynamic pore network modeling (PNM) of three-dimensional and unstructured networks. We considered corner flow and micro-flow mechanisms including snap-off and piston-like movement for two-phase flow. Moreover, NAPL entrapment and remobilization were evaluated using force analysis to develop the capillary desaturation curve (CDC) and predict the onset of remobilization. The corner diffusion mechanism was also applied in the modeling of interphase mass transfer to represent NAPL dissolution as the dominant mass transfer...
