Effects of Pr doping and magnetic field on vortex pinning in Gd-123 based HTSC

    , Article Physica Status Solidi C: Conferences ; Volume 1, Issue 7 , 2004 , Pages 1883-1886 ; 16101634 (ISSN) Mohammadizadeh, M. R ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
The magnetoresistance of single phase polycrystalline Gd(Ba 2-xPrx)Cu3O7-δ samples have been studied within thermally activated flux creep model. The decrease of pinning energy with applied magnetic field can be scaled to two power law relations for magnetic fields, smaller and also larger than about 1 kOe. The derived pinning energy shows that the Pr-doping, similar to weak links, decreases the vortex flux pinning energy. It is also concluded that the substitution of Pr at Ba site has a more destructive effect on the flux dynamics than Pr at rare earth site. © 2004 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim

Europium-doped yttrium silicate nanoparticles embedded in a porous SiO 2 matrix

    , Article Nanotechnology ; Volume 15, Issue 11 , 2004 , Pages 1549-1553 ; 09574484 (ISSN) Taghavinia, N ; Lerondel, G ; Makino, H ; Yao, T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Europium-doped yttrium silicate nanoparticles were grown inside a porous silicon oxide matrix by chemical impregnation of porous silicon layers, followed by heat treatments. The average size of the nanoparticles is 50 nm and they are dispersed almost uniformly within the whole porous layer. Local composition measurements demonstrate that Y and Eu are found only in nanoparticles, indicating a good phase separation efficiency. There is indirect evidence that yttrium silicate nanoparticles are nucleated around Eu ions. The crystalline phase of the particles is pure α-Y2Si2O7, with no trace of Y2O3 or Y2SiO5 or other Y2Si2O7 polymorphs. Structural purity is an advantage for this method, as in...

Magnetic field effects on electrical resistivity of (Gd 1-xPrx)Ba2Cu3O7-δ and Gd(Ba2-xPrx)Cu3O7+δ

    , Article Physica Status Solidi C: Conferences ; Volume 1, Issue 7 , 2004 , Pages 1887-1890 ; 16101634 (ISSN) Mohammadizadeh, M. R ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The magnetoresistance measurements of single phase polycrystalline Gd(Ba2-xPrx)Cu3O7+δ and Gd1-xPrx)Ba2Cu3O 7-δ samples have been compared and analyzed by the Ambegaokar and Halperin phase slip model. The derived power law dependences of pinning energy to applied magnetic field and temperature have been studied for different amounts of Pr doping. The power factors depend on the Pr doping. Moreover, in both systems, the magnetic field dependence of the pinning energy power factor increases for small amounts of Pr doping, while for larger amount of Pr doping, it decreases. The critical current power law dependence to magnetic field decreases with increasing Pr doping. Pr substitution at Ba or...

Role of Pr/Ba disorder in Pr123 superconductor

    , Article Physica Status Solidi C: Conferences ; Volume 1, Issue 7 , 2004 , Pages 1867-1870 ; 16101634 (ISSN) Khosroabadi, H ; Modarreszadeh, M ; Taheri, P ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Polycrystalline (Pr1-x Bax)Ba2Cu 3O7-δ samples (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.6) is prepared by the standard solid state reaction technique. X-ray measurements confirm the formation of the 123 phase for x ≤ 0.3, but for 0.4 ≤ x ≤ 0.6, due to the solubility limit, the 123 phase is not a dominant phase. Resistivity measurements show the increasing of resistivity with the increase of Ba-doping up to about x=0.08, and then decreases in the 123 phase up to x = 0.3. There is no observation of superconducting state in our samples, but we observe the sharp decrease of resistivity for x>0.1, which is related to possible superconductivity in Pr123 system by Ba-doping. It is concluded that the Pr/Ba disorder has...

    Conduction mechanism in Pr-doped GdBa2Cu3O 7

    , Article Physica Status Solidi C: Conferences ; Volume 1, Issue 7 , 2004 , Pages 1851-1854 ; 16101634 (ISSN) Mohammadizadeh, M. R ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
The normal state resistivity of single phase polycrystalline Gd(Ba 2-xPrx)Cu3O7+δ samples with 0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.50 have been investigated. The two-dimensional variable range hopping is dominant in the normal state resistivity of the samples. The conduction shows that Pr-doping strongly localizes the carriers in normal state, and finally causes the suppression of superconductivity. Based on the resistivity measurements, the effect of Pr substitution in 123 structure of HTSC at Gd or Ba site is to increase the pseudogap temperature Ts, although, Pr at Ba site has a stronger effect on the suppression of T s and superconductivity. Pr-doping not only reduces the carrier density and induces pseudogap,...

    Abstract
We have studied the electrical and magnetic properties of single phase polycrystalline Gd(Ba2-x Lax)Cu3O 7+δ and Gd(Ba2-xNdx)Cu3O 7+δ (0≤ x ≤ 0.5) samples. The samples were prepared by the standard solid-state reaction technique. The electrical measurements show the decrease of Tc and increase of ΔTc with the increase of Nd and La-doping. The magnetoresistance of samples has been studied within the thermally activated flux creep (TAFC) model. The pinning energy decreases with the increase of magnetic field and doping for both systems in a similar way. The decrease of pinning energy with applied magnetic field can be scaled with two power law relations for the magnetic field: smaller and...

Appearance of a new superconducting phase in Gd(Ba2-xPr x)Cu3O7+δ

    Abstract
An unusual hump on the resistivity vs. temperature curve of Gd(Ba 2-xPrx)Cu3O7+δ samples have been observed for particular values of Pr doping. Investigation of the origin of this effect has led to an important result. Based on the Rietveld refinement of the XRD patterns, we have found that the Ba atom substitution at the rare earth site could lead to superconductivity in some parts of the grains at T p ∼ 80-90 K, which appears as a hump on the p(T) curve. Our result is in line with the previously proposed possibility of existence of superconductivity in Pr-123 due to the Ba atom substituted at Pr site. © 2004 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Abstract
Single-phase polycrystalline NdBa2-xPrxCu 3O7+δ (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5) have been prepared by the standard solid-state reaction. The results of X-ray diffraction measurements confirm the formation of 123 single phase. A superconductor-insulator transition at XcSIT = 0.3 has been observed for the samples. The magnetoresistance of the samples have been investigated within the thermally activated flux creep model. The pinning energy decreases with the magnetic field application and Pr-doping. A scaling relation as power law dependence of pinning energy to the magnetic field has been obtained. The derived pinning energy shows that the Pr-doping plays the role of weak link. Abstract
Tetragonal Gd1-xPrxBaSrCu3O 7-δ polycrystalline samples (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.9) have been prepared by the standard solid-state reaction and characterized by XRD. A hump on the ρ(T) curve have been observed at about 80 K for large values of x. The normal state resistivity have been investigated with two and three dimensional variable range hopping (2&3D-VRH) and Coulomb gap (CG). For low concentration of Pr, 2D-VRH is the dominant mechanism, but with the increase of x, 3D-VRH is dominant. The magnetoresistance measurements of the samples have been analysed by the Ambegakor and Halperin (AH) phase slip model. The field dependences of the pinning energy and critical current density have been studied for...

    Abstract
The transient response of all optical gain clamped multi channel erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA's) and optical fiber inverter is studied by a semi-classical model. Using the semi-classical theory, the electric field interacting with mater is considered classical and the medium is quantized according to the equations of motion for density matrix. The rate equations and "self consistency" equations, which yield amplitude and phase of the electric fields of oscillator and amplifying channels are derived by considering Maxwell's equations and equation of motion of density matrix. The governing equations form a system of coupled partial differential equations. The relaxation oscillation...

High temperature superconductors as a two-dimensional electron gas

    Abstract
Based on transport and magnetic measurements on Gd(Ba2-xPr x)Cu3O7+δ, and some other properties of high temperature superconductors (HTSC), we have extracted similarities between superconductors, two-dimensional electron gas (2D-EG) i.e., MOSFETs. These are based on properties such as superconductor-insulator transition in superconductors and metal-insulator transition (MIT) in 2D-EG with doping and magnetic field, localization in transport conduction, quantum unit of resistance at MIT, larger change in resistivity from critical doping to the insulating side in comparison with change from critical doping to the metallic side, and strongly electron-electron coupling. These similarities could...

    Abstract
The magnetoresistance measurement of single phase polycrystalline Tm(Ba2-xPrx)Cu3O7+δ samples have been analyzed by the Ambegaokar and Halperine (AH) phase slip model. The magnetic field dependence of pinning energy power factors increase with the increase of Pr doping. The derived critical current density from the AH theory decreases with increasing magnetic field and Pr-doping for all superconducting samples. It shows that the Pr-doping plays the role of weak link. We have also investigated the normal state resistivity with the hopping model. We have found a CG-VRH cross-over with the increase of Pr content near metal insulator transition. The deacrease of the localization length of the...

Ba@Pr or Pr@Ba in R123 HTSC - To be or not to be SC

    , Article Physica Status Solidi (B) Basic Research ; Volume 241, Issue 6 , 2004 , Pages 1242-1250 ; 03701972 (ISSN) Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In spite of the vast amount of experimental and theoretical knowledge accumulated in HTSC, the nature of the interaction driving charge carriers to form Cooper pairs below Tc is still unknown. To elucidate the controversial insulating/SC Pr123, the substitution of Pr at Ba site (Pr@Ba) with Ba at Pr site (Ba@Pr) in R123 is compared and reviewed. This might shed some light on the microscopic origin of HTSC. © 2004 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim

    Localization length-doping dependence in GdBa2Cu3-xCrxO7-δ

    , Article Physica C: Superconductivity and its Applications ; Volume 466, Issue 1-2 , 2007 , Pages 157-162 ; 09214534 (ISSN) Bazargan, S ; Javanmard, H ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
The bulk samples of GdBa2Cu3-xCrxO7-δ with x = 0-0.3 have been prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method. Structural phases were determined by powder X-ray diffraction. The XRD and the unit cell parameters were obtained through Rietveld refinement of the XRD data. By increasing the doping, the c parameter decreases and the a parameter increases, and by the nearly fixed b parameter, the orthorhombic phase approaches to the tetragonal phase. The resistivity measurements show a strong effect of doping on suppression of Tc. At the first doping step of x = 0.05, Tc decreases abruptly to 57 K, but by increasing the doping, this rate slows down and becomes nearly linear for higher...

Effect of Pr doping on transport properties of Nd(Ba2-xPr x)Cu3O7+8

, Article Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, Part 1: Regular Papers and Short Notes and Review Papers ; Volume 44, Issue 11 , 2005 , Pages 7934-7942 ; 00214922 (ISSN) Maleki, P ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Solid-state-reacted polycrystalline Nd(Ba2-xPr x)Cu3O7+8 materials have been prepared and investigated using X-ray diffraction and resistivity measurements. Our results show that Nd(Ba2-xPrx)Cu3O7+8 is a superconductor when x < 0.3. The Tc depression in superconductivity of Pr at Ba sites is due to both hole filling/localization and depairing effects. The normal state conductivity undergoes a dimensional crossover from two-dimensional to three-dimensional in the frame of the variable range hopping regime. The localization length of carriers shows that Pr doping localizes carriers in the normal state and causes the Tc depression. The magnetoresistance of the samples has been investigated...

On the rate of oxidation of co on La2O3 doped NiO/Al2O3 catalysts: An artificial neural network approach

    , Article Reaction Kinetics and Catalysis Letters ; Volume 85, Issue 2 , 2005 , Pages 347-353 ; 01331736 (ISSN) Ardakani, S. J ; Gobal, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The rate constants of the oxidation of CO on a number of pure and La 2O3 doped NiO/Al2O3 solid catalysts were correlated with the mole percent of dopant, calcinations temperature, surface area, pore volume and pore mouth diameter by an artificial neural network simulator. The cross validation method had to be used due to the scarcity of the data. A three-layer network with 3 nodes in the hidden layer was found to simulate the system well. © Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest. Abstract
The microemulsion method was successfully used to prepare a series of TiO2, Fe oxide and SiO2 doped TiO2 nanoparticles at Fe/Ti atomic ratio of 10% and Si/Ti atomic ratio of 15%. The molar ratio of water to surfactant (W0) was 2. The samples were calcinated at 350°C. The structural features of TiO2, Fe oxide and SiO 2-TiO2 were investigated by XRD, UV-Visible spectroscopy, SEM and TEM. XRD data verified the formation of typical characteristic anatase form in all the prepared Fe and SiO2-doped TiO2 samples. In comparison with the pure TiO2, Fe oxide and SiO 2-TiO2 samples were relatively large in particle size, indicating that doping with Fe oxide and SiO2 can help in increasing the particle...

    Abstract
Electro-oxidation of alcohols (methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol and 2-propanol) on nickel dispersed into a thick layer of poly-o-aminophenol on graphite electrode (GE/POAP-SDS/Ni) was investigated. Ni-doping into the polymeric film was achieved chemically followed by enrichment of Ni(III) through cycling the potential. The electro-oxidation of alcohols on GE/POAP-SDS/Ni were found to be dominated by direct electro-oxidation with some contribution from Ni(II)/Ni(III) couple. Rate constants for the electro-oxidation of methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol and 2-propanol as derived by chronoamperometry were 1.65 × 105, 1.31 × 105, 2.53 × 104 and 1.40 × 104 cm3 mol-1 s-1, respectively. Abstract
In order to study the Hall effect in pure and CNT-doped Y-123 polycrystalline samples, we have measured the longitudinal and transverse voltages at different magnetic field (0 - 9 T) in the normal and vortex states. In the normal state, the Hall coefficient is positive and decreases with increasing temperature, and can be approximately fitted to RH = a + bT-1. We have found a sign reversal in the pure sample for the magnetic field of about 3 T, and double sign reversal of the Hall coefficient in the 0.7 wt% CNT-doped sample at about 3 and 5 T. The Hall resistivity in our samples depends on the pinning

    Abstract
An efficient electrocatalyst for Pt-free I−/I3 − reduction has been synthesized by high temperature treatment of graphene oxide-cobalt phthalocyanine mixtures. The graphitic material was characterized by various techniques and was found to consist of reduced graphene oxide carrying CoN3 entities, obtained by thermal decomposition of cobalt phthalocyanine. This material had an ionization potential equal to 4.9±0.1 eV and thus it was judged appropriate to act as reduction electrocatalyst for the I−/I3 − redox electrolyte. It was subsequently deposited as thin film on FTO electrodes, which were employed as counter electrodes for dye-sensitized solar cells. Its capacity to reduce I−/I3 − redox...
