    Abstract
We evaluate the performance of the internally coded partial-band DS-CDMA scheme first introduced in [1], in a multipath Rayleigh fading channel. The scheme of [1] is based on frequency-hopping (FH) and direct-sequence (DS) spread spectrum techniques. The total bandwidth is divided into Ns subbands. The output of a super-orthogonal encoder and a pseudorandom (PN) sequence selects one subband, in which the user's data is sent in the form of DS-CDMA signal using the second PN sequence. We consider soft detection at the receiver front end. We obtain the upper and lower bounds on the bit error rate. For comparison, we also consider the conventional DS-CDMA system. It is shown that for the same...

    Abstract
In this paper a novel Space Time Diversity Generalized Decorrelating Discrete Time Rake (STD-GD-DTR) for Upstream DS-CDMA system is proposed. The chosen algorithm for estimating the correct data is Maximum likelihood. In this method, a robust receiver based on maximum likelihood estimation is represented in which, space time diversity technique has been combined with generalized decorrelating discrete-time RAKE (GD-DTR) receiver to obtain higher performance than other widely used techniques for data estimation. Our proposed STD-GD-DTR ML based receiver provides high gains in the presence of channel estimation errors from similar methods. Simulation results illustrate the appropriate...

A practical approach for coherent signal surveillance and blind parameter assessment in asynchoronous DS-CDMA systems in multipath channel

    , Article Proceedings - 2010 18th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2010, 11 May 2010 through 13 May 2010 ; 2010 , Pages 305-310 ; 9781424467600 (ISBN) Samsami Khodadad, F ; Ganji, F ; Aref, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A novel, robust and practical method for active user enumeration in asynchronous CDMA in multipath channel condition is proposed in this paper. Most of the previous works do not consider the fact that in practical case, user's signals with the help of receiver arrive asynchronously. The proposed method can be used practically in blind multi-user detection such as eavesdropping; moreover, the method is based on information theory criteria which outperform other methods. Minimum description length (MDL) has better performance than all other information criteria used in such scenarios. Unlike most of the pervious works, we do not exploit array antenna to gather necessary data of the users....

DS-CDMA Acquisition Using Adaptive Filters and Sampling at the Rate of Innovation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nazari Hashemi, Hamid (Author) ; Aleam Marvasti, Farrokh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In modern wireless mobile telephony networks, DS-CDMA based physical layers has gained much attention due to their ease of implementation at relatively low overall cost, ability to provide high speed data services, increased user capacity, and many other outstanding features. One of the challenges facing these systems is the synchronization of the users’ signature codes (received via communication channel) to the receiver’s locally generated replica, as the only distinguishing feature between users in such systems is the pseudo-orthogonal properties of these signature codes. To fully utilize this orthogonality, all sequences need to have a common time reference. But when relative sequence...

The direction of arrival estimation in DS-CDMA systems employing the code-matched filters and parallel ESPRIT algorithms

    Abstract
It was shown that the number of array elements must exceed the number of sources for subspace-based direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation. But this is not practical for a direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) wireless system, since the number of mobile users is very large. To remove the aforementioned restriction, a DOA estimator, employing the code-matched filters and parallel ESPRIT algorithms, is proposed. This algorithm does not use to search all angles such as MUSIC method. Besides, it is not necessary to use AIC and MDL criterion to estimate the number of sources in the proposed algorithm. Simulation results illustrates the appropriate performance of the new method

    Abstract
In this paper an efficient method is proposed for blind detection of multiuser spread spectrum signal and pseudo noise (PN) length estimation in downlink scenario. This method is based on fluctuating observation of second order statistic (SOS) estimator of received signal; estimating length of spreading code with no need to primary information based on observing second order peaks of correlation estimator is presented. In low SNR, the fading multipath phenomenon especially in length of small codes leads to problem in detecting place of correlation estimator peaks. In this paper besides expanding blind estimation to multiuser environment, by using searching method in updating the length of...

Power control for multirate DS-CDMA systems with imperfect successive interference cancellation

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology ; Volume 57, Issue 1 , 2008 , Pages 600-603 ; 00189545 (ISSN) Jalali, S ; Khalaj, B. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
In this paper, the problem of power allocation and optimal decoding order of users for the uplink channel of a multirate direct-sequence code-division multiple-access system with linear successive interference cancellation (IC) is addressed. First, the closed-form expressions of the required received powers at the base station for providing all users with their demanded rates and signal to interference-plus-noise ratios (SINRs) are derived. Then, it is shown that, unlike the case when the IC is perfect, in this case, optimum ordering of users at the receiver, which minimizes the total transmitted power, is a function of both their requested SINRs and path gains. Finally, in searching for the...

Capacity Analysis and Interference Characterization for CDMA Cellular Wireless Communications Systems Based on Statistical Modelling of User Locations

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Taheri, Mohammad Mahdi (Author) ; Bastani, Mohammad Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis we consider the effect of random locations of users in the capacity analysis of SIR-based power control systems and comparison to the strength-based systems, for the first time. Unlike previous works we do not consider a simple deterministic uniform model for the analysis. We provide simulations and analytical solutions for calculating the interference statistics, based on which, we not only calculate the interference statistics, but also study the effect of locating a user in every location in the network coverage area and its share in the interference. We also calculate each cell’s share in every statistics of the interference. In this thesis, based on the common assumption...

    Abstract
In this paper, we present a novel and rather simple method for calculating reverse-link outage probability in signal-to-interference ratio (SIR)-based power-controlled direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems. We obtain outage probability for a single-service system using the interference-to-received-signal-power ratio. We extend our method to the multiservice case using the uplink load factor, which is the ratio of the interference to the interference plus noise. Unlike most of the previous works, we employ the 2-D Poisson point process to model the spatial distribution of mobile users in the network coverage area. We approximate the...

    Abstract
In this paper, we study the downlink of cooperative Direct-Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) systems, where a set of Mobile Terminals (MT) cooperate with the purpose of improving their downlink communications reliability with Base Station (BS). For combating Multiple-Access Interference (MAI) as well as transferring complexity and spatial processing from the mobile terminals to the transmitter of BS, multiuser transmitter precoding is considered. In addition to multiuser precoding based on Minimum Mean-Square Error (MMSE) criterion for mitigating MAI, the proper transmission power control strategy under a fixed total power constraint is proposed and analyzed. Compared with...
