    Abstract
Exhaust gas emissions from mobile sources and its importance in urban pollution have currently attracted lots of interests towards studying on alternative fuel systems for road vehicles usage. One of the best replacements is the natural gas/diesel dual fuel, which offers an alternative to standard compression-ignition diesel engines. In the dual fuel system the primary fuel is natural gas, which may replace as much as 90% of the diesel fuel with a small amount of diesel fuel required ensuring effective ignition. Methane, the main constituent of natural gas, has high combustion efficiency. Dual fuel engines produce lower NOx emissions and fewer particulates. However, at moderate engine loads,...

The effect of diethyl ether addition on performance and emission of a reactivity controlled compression ignition engine fueled with ethanol and diesel

    , Article Energy Conversion and Management ; Volume 174 , 2018 , Pages 779-792 ; 01968904 (ISSN) Mohebbi, M ; Reyhanian, M ; Hosseini, V ; Said, M. F. M ; Abdul Aziz, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Reactivity controlled compression ignition has been introduced to implement controllable, clean, and high thermal efficiency without undermining the advantages of premixed combustion. However, simultaneous auto-ignition introduced by reactivity controlled combustion challenges the combustion under higher load operations. This experimental study incorporates a dual phase heat release concept with the purpose of improving the performance of reactivity controlled compression ignition engine. Different ratios of ethanol/diethyl-ether blends (from 0% to 40% diethyl ether and 70% premixed ratio) were applied to a light duty diesel engine at various combustion timings and engine loads. The diesel...

    Abstract
Low temperature combustion potentially can improve engine efficiency coupled with the benefits of low nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter emissions, and vice versa high unburned hydrocarbon and carbon oxide emissions through in-cylinder fuel reactions. In this survey, the experiments were carried out using a modified one-cylinder reactivity controlled compression ignition engine, dual-fueled diesel/compressed natural gas and biodiesel/CNG, to investigate the effects of direct injection strategies on the engine combustion efficiency and emission characteristics. Different ratios of biodiesel blends at different premixed ratios were applied to the dual-fuel engine. The results showed that...

Modeling the dual-fuel combustion of porous lycopodium particles and diesel using an analytical simulation framework

    , Article Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis ; Volume 163 , 2022 ; 01652370 (ISSN) Tashakori, S ; Akbari, S ; Faghiri, S ; Sadeghi, S ; Xu, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, a comprehensive analytical study is performed to assess the lycopodium-diesel dual-fuel combustion system in counter-flow premixed configuration. The system is modeled as multiple zones that are coupled together via proper boundary and jump conditions on interfaces. According to the respective reaction and transport phenomena in these zones, conservation equations of mass and energy are derived, non-dimensionalized, and solved by Matlab and Mathematica in an analytical way. The porosity of lycopodium particles and the thermal radiation from the reaction zone and the post-flame zones into the preheating zone are considered, in order to improve the realism and accuracy of the...

    Abstract
At today’s crowded world, the importance of automobile transportation is obvious for all. Due to energy crisis and air pollution problems, designing and manufacturing high-performance and low emission engines is very important. Because of high efficiency and low fuel consumption, diesel engines have attracted more attention. In addition to the mentioned advantages, diesel engine’s nitrogen oxide and particulate matter emissions are very high. So to limit these pollutants, strict standards was legislated by different countries and nations. Recently in the field of diesel engines emission reduction, low temperature combustion concept is proposed that can reduce nitrogen oxide and particulate...

Production of perovskite catalysts on ceramic monoliths with nanoparticles for dual fuel system automobiles

    Abstract
(Lanthanum, Cerium)(Iron, Manganese, Cobalt, Palladium)(Oxygen)3- Perovskite catalyst was prepared by the citrate route and deposited on ceramic monoliths via dip coating procedure. The catalyst was applied on a car with XU7 motors and the amount of emission was monitored with vehicle emission test systems in Sapco company. The results were compared with the imported catalyst with noble metals such as palladium, platinum and rhodium by Iran Khodro company based on the Euro III standards. The catalysts were characterized by specific surface area measurements, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, line scan and map. In the results, obtained in the home made sample, the amount of...
