    Abstract
In this paper, we present a design method of dual-band waveguide rectangular cavity filters, with a series in-line topology. The coupling matrix is based on asynchronously tuned designs, where two sets of resonances exist for the two bands. Thus the filter is inherently different than the typical dual-band designs in the literature, as existing designs utilize resonators at the same frequency. The design at Ku band validates the underlying idea and concept, and the theory of the detuned coupling matrix. This rectangular waveguide implementation can provide noticeable miniaturization in applications with high-power requirements

Enlarging the region of stability in robust model predictive controller based on dual-mode control

    , Article Transactions of the Institute of Measurement and Control ; Volume 43, Issue 14 , 2021 , Pages 3085-3092 ; 01423312 (ISSN) Khani, F ; Haeri, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Industrial processes are inherently nonlinear with input, state, and output constraints. A proper control system should handle these challenging control problems over a large operating region. The robust model predictive controller (RMPC) could be an linear matrix inequality (LMI)-based method that estimates stability region of the closed-loop system as an ellipsoid. This presentation, however, restricts confident application of the controller on systems with large operating regions. In this paper, a dual-mode control strategy is employed to enlarge the stability region in first place and then, trajectory reversing method (TRM) is employed to approximate the stability region more accurately....

Design, Analysis and Synthesis of Dual-Mode Waveguide Filter in Q Band

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jahanbakht, Mohammad Hosein (Author) ; Banai, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today in the most microwave and millimeterwave systems, one or more filters are used due to interference and noise phenomena. Microwave filters are manufactured in different environments such as waveguide, microstrip and SIW. For military and satellite applications that high power handling and low loss are in preference, the only appropriate environment is the waveguide. Other priority which is more important in satellite application is the low weight and small size of the product; Because of that, the idea of dual-mode waveguide filter was proposed in the early 70 decade. These kind of filters are able to produce two poles in one cavity resonator, which can decrease weight and size of the...

    Abstract
Shaped charges are devices used for cutting or penetrating different aerial, on land, and underwater targets, based on the concentration of the explosion energy to the liner. The purpose of this study is to present a practical review of the studies related to shaped charges in the last twenty years (2000–2020). In this regard, these studies have been reviewed in two different categories for ordinary and advanced shaped charges. In the case of ordinary shaped charges, different aspects including shaped charges against different targets, different types of shaped charges (such as linear shaped charge and explosively formed penetrators), and theoretical advancements are presented. On the other...

Control of Hybrid Systems Using Tube-based MPC

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahmoradi, Reza (Author) ; Haeri, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The focus of this thesis is on robust control of hybrid systems using tube-based model predictive control. Hybrid systems are systems that contain both continuous and discrete components. The hybrid nature of these systems can stem from inherent switching behavior that occurs in many dynamical or digitally controlled systems, or from approximation of nonlinear systems. The ability of these systems to model a vast amount of physical phenomena has been attracted a lot of attention from control society. Although much effort have been made on the control of “nominal” hybrid systems, robust stabilization of these systems still seems to be immature. One of the most successful approaches toward...

A dual mode UHF EPC Gen 2 RFID tag in 0.18 μm CMOS

    , Article Microelectronics Journal ; Volume 41, Issue 8 , 2010 , Pages 458-464 ; 00262692 (ISSN) Najafi, V ; Mohammadi, S ; Roostaie, V ; Fotowat-Ahmady, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
A dual mode UHF RFID transponder in 0.18 μm CMOS conforming to the EPC Gen 2 standard is presented. Low voltage design of the analog and digital blocks enables the chip to operate with a 1 V regulated voltage and thus to reduce the power consumption. The novel dual mode architecture enables the chip to work in passive and battery-assisted modes controlled by the reader. A custom Gen 2 based command switches the operation mode of the circuit. By using a special clock calibration method the chip operates from 1.2 to 5 MHz clock frequency. Several low power techniques are employed to reduce the power consumption of the chip which is essential in passive RFID tags. Measurement results show that...

An auto-calibrated, dual-mode SRAM macro using a hybrid offset-cancelled sense amplifier

    , Article Microelectronics Journal ; Vol. 45, issue. 6 , 2014 , p. 781-792 Attarzadeh, H ; Sharifkhani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A dual-mode power and performance optimized SRAM is presented. Given the fact that the power and speed associated with the cell access time are directly related to the sense amplifier offset a new optimization platform based on the hybrid offset-cancelled current sense amplifier (OCCSA) [1] is presented. It is shown that the speed and power overhead of the offset cancellation can be optimized in a multi-variable auto-calibration loop to achieve the lowest power or the highest performance mode. The flexibility of having two degrees of freedom in OCCSA offers a significant bitline delay reduction with minimum power sacrifice in the high performance mode. The proposed scheme is verified using a...

Comparison of Model Predictive Control with Global Linearization Control in Temperature Control of CSTR

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khaksar Toroghi, Masoud (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Controlling the nonlinear processes is very important in industry. In this thesis, model predictive control is considered as a nonlinear control strategy and two nonlinear models, namely wiener and Hammerstein models are used and their identification methods are described. State-space model is also considered and closed-loop stability has been studied. Another strategy for controlling the nonlinear process is global linearization control. Some concepts and related theorems for this strategy are stated. PID controller is used as a linear controller for this strategy. In this model for estimating the state and load, two nonlinear observers are used. Stability analysis of output feedback...

    Elsevier B.V  2020
    Abstract
Optical fiber torsion sensors have significant importance for structural health monitoring. In this paper, an optical fiber torsion sensor based on computer-generated-hologram (CGH) is proposed and investigated theoretically. In the proposed structure a dual mode fiber (DMF) is used as a sensing element. An acoustic source can be employed to induce a fiber grating. The acoustic induced fiber grating (AIFG) causes the fundamental LP01 mode of DMF couples to LP11 o and LP11 e fiber modes. In the presence of torsion in DMF, the profiles of LP01, LP11 o and LP11 e modes rotate relative to the absence of fiber torsion. At the end of DMF a suitable CGH can be employed to resolve spatially the...

    Abstract
Bimodal magnetic-fluorescent materials for diagnostic imaging needs surface-engineered nanoparticles with great biosafety, pronounced colloidal stability, high magnetic moments, and strong photoluminescence (PL) emission. This work presents polymer-coated nanoparticles (PCNPs) based on manganese ferrites covered with a thin shell of nitrogen-doped carbon dots for magnetic-resonance and fluorescent dual mode imaging of cancerous tumors in vivo. An in situ thermolysis of metal oxalates and phenylenediamine in diphenyl ether allows for the facile synthesis of hybrid magneto-fluorescent nanoparticles. They possess an average size of 55 ± 5 nm with strong and excitation-independent PL emission at...
