A dynamic programing-based framework for distribution system restoration considering load uncertainties

    , Article International Transactions on Electrical Energy Systems ; Volume 27, Issue 12 , 2017 ; 20507038 (ISSN) Riahinia, S ; Abbaspour, A ; Farzin, H ; Khalili, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper presents a stochastic framework to properly involve the uncertainties associated with demand in distribution system restoration (DSR) problem. To reach this goal, these uncertainties are represented as probabilistic scenarios corresponding to different load levels. Subsequently, the associated stochastic optimization problem is formulated such that it can be readily solved using dynamic programming approach. Moreover, a clustering technique is presented that enables the dynamic programming approach to find near-optimal solutions for the stochastic load restoration problem with reasonable computational effort. The proposed framework is implemented on a real-world test system, and...

Dynamic programming applied to large circular arrays thinning

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation ; Volume 66, Issue 8 , 2018 , Pages 4025-4033 ; 0018926X (ISSN) Tohidi, E ; Nayebi, M. M ; Behroozi, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In conventional arrays, improving angular resolution requires larger aperture which demands more number of elements. On the other hand, array thinning is an efficient method of achieving narrow beamwidth (high angular resolution) with fewer number of elements. Reducing the number of elements results in reducing weight, cost, hardware complexity, and energy consumption. In this paper, a novel dynamic programming algorithm of array thinning with the objective of reducing sidelobe levels (SLLs), desired for large circular arrays, is proposed. The circular array is partitioned into annular rings, and the objective of the optimization problem is to determine the number of active elements in each...

Optimal DG sizing in primary distribution feeders using dynamic programming approach

    , Article 2012 11th International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering, EEEIC 2012 - Conference Proceedings, 18 May 2012 through 25 May 2012, Venice ; 2012 , Pages 371-375 ; 9781457718281 (ISBN) Ahmadigorji, M ; Kenari, M. T ; Mehrasa, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Distributed generation (DG) corresponds to the application of small generating units which are the set up in distribution systems or near load centers. Utilization of DG influences various operational indices of the distribution feeders such as feeder loading, electrical losses and voltage profile. In addition, use of DG in its appropriate size is an essential tool to attain the DG maximum potential advantages. In this paper, an optimization method is proposed to determine the optimal size of DG in the distribution system. This method considers the system technical factors such as losses, voltage profile and loading of the primary distribution system feeders. The optimization process is...

QoS-aware joint policies in cognitive radio networks

    , Article IWCMC 2011 - 7th International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference, 4 July 2011 through 8 July 2011 ; July , 2011 , Pages 2220-2225 ; 9781424495399 (ISBN) Salehkaleybar, S ; Majd, S. A ; Pakravan, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
One of the most challenging problems in Opportunistic Spectrum Access (OSA) is to design channel sensing-based protocol in multi secondary users (SUs) network. Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for SUs have significant implications on this protocol design. In this paper, we propose a new method to find joint policies for SUs which not only tries to guarantee QoS requirements but also maximize network throughput. We use Decentralized Partially Observable Markov Decision Process (Dec-POMDP) to formulate interactions between SUs. Meanwhile, a tractable approach for Dec-POMDP is utilized to extract sub-optimum joint policies for large horizons. Among these policies, the QoS-aware joint...
