Determinants of the Relative Risk Aversion coefficient in Iranian Urban Households Case Study: Life Insurance

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khanmirzaee, Farhad (Author) ; Fatemi Ardestani, Farshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research is devoted to clarify the determinants of the revealed behavior of Iranian urban households toward risk attitude in the life insurance market. Based on the cross section data of Iranian household income and expenditure statistics (HIES), the life insurance data of Iran Insurance company, and the fertility rate reported by National Organization for civil registration, the Arrow-Pratt Index for relative risk aversion is estimated. According to the literature, the income, asset and job status are considered as economic variables, while the sex of family head, the number of children, the age of family head and the marriage status are regarded as demographic and social variables....

The Impact of Economic Status on Educational Performance

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahimi, Mohammad Kazem (Author) ; Vesal, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Considering the fact that human capital is a crucial element in explaining the differences in income per capita and economic growth among countries, this research focuses on the effect of initial endowments of individuals on the process of human capital accumulation. One of the most important questions one can ask in this regard is whether individuals that are born in households with a low level of endowments, cannot develop their level of human capital due to a lack in the ability to obtain the factors required for their educational attainment. To answer this question, and considering the limitations of obtaining educational data, we aim to answer this question using district-level data....

Feasibility of using laser bit beside of common bits to drilling slim holes

, Article Society of Petroleum Engineers - International Petroleum Technology Conference 2013, IPTC 2013: Challenging Technology and Economic Limits to Meet the Global Energy Demand ; Volume 1 , 2013 , Pages 422-433 ; 9781627481762 (ISBN) Bazargan, M ; Jalalyfar, H ; Koohian, A ; Habibpour, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The capability level of rotary as well as first generation drilling operation could not be matched for deeply drilling programs. To reach that deep, the increasing in drill string length could also cause an additional constraint on hydraulic performance. The operation of slim hole drilling has significant potential to reduce well costs. This cost might be savings are especially important with increased demand for reduced capital finance under current economic conditions in the Iranian oil and gas industry. This savings achievement could be caused by use of smaller drilling rigs, work over rigs, reduced casing size, reducing requirement for drilling consumables and other costs associated with...

Time-variant Seismic Risk Analysis of Transportation Networks Considering Economic and Socioeconomic Impacts

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yazdi-Samadi, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Mahsuli, Mojtaba (Supervisor) ; Samimi, Amir (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
This thesis targets the multidisciplinary area of time-variant seismic risk analysis of transportation networks. For this purpose, a new methodology and a library of probabilistic models are developed. Risk, in this context, denotes the probability of exceeding the sum of direct and indirect losses due to seismic events. Direct economic losses are due to the repair cost of the physical damage in the components of the network, such as bridges. The indirect losses are due to the reduced capacity of the components for traffic flow, which results in increased travel times in the network. This leads to socioeconomic losses. In this research, a reliability-based approach is adopted to carry out...

A study on possible injection of greenhouse gases CO2 in order to enhanced oil recovery and economic assessment

    Abstract
This paper summarizes the possibility of carbon dioxide gas Injection and compares the results with natural depletion in one of Iranian under saturated oil reservoir. At first with using PVTi software and Eclipse simulator, slim tube test has been simulated and Minimum Miscibility Pressure (MMP) of carbon dioxide gas with reservoir fluid determined then simulation of CO2 injection had done and at the end assessment of economic conditions for CO2 injection had been considered. Results had shown CO2 is an optimized choice for gas injection in this oil reservoir

Power sector development in Iran: a retrospective optimization approach

    , Article Energy ; Volume 140 , 2017 , Pages 330-339 ; 03605442 (ISSN) Manzoor, D ; Aryanpur, V ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper provides an overview of the power sector development in Iran for the period 1984–2014. A retrospective optimization approach is applied to assess economic and environmental benefits that would have been achieved through appropriate long-term planning. MESSAGE, a systems engineering optimization model, is used for this analysis. Two alternative scenarios are defined to explore the impact of supply- and demand-side strategies on the power generation mix, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The focus on the past choice of energy scenarios provides some insights for future scenario design. The results of the cost-optimal scenarios with international fuel prices are compared with the...
