Agricultural Economics model of Urmia Lake Basin

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Norooz Alipoor Baboli, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Vesal, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Fatemi Ardestani, Farshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This Thesis was an effort to write and quantify an agricultural economic model for Urmia Lake Basin and evaluate the change in water consumption in reaction to a policy change. Aggregated form of the data gathered from 33 counties located in Urmia Lake Basin was used in this research. This data includes the quantity used of each input and their costs, in addition to crop yield and their selling price. In our model, the representative farmer takes into account the price of various inputs, crops and the condition of the farm and its limitations and decides on the profit-maximizing crop pattern. In this model, water is one of the most important inputs and its price and availability, effects the...

Cost Efficient Task Scheduling Algorithms in Grid Environment

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kardani Moghaddam, Sara (Author) ; Movaghar Rahimabadi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Computational grids enabling resource sharing and coordination are now one of the common and acceptable technologies used for solving computational intensive applications rising in scientific and industrial problems. Nevertheless, due to the heterogeneity, dynamicity and autonomy of the grid resources, task scheduling within these systems has become a challenging research area. Applying the market model to the grids is a good approach which can easily take the dynamic characteristics of the grid resources into account and simplify the scheduling problem considering user-centric factors. In this thesis a two level market-based model for task scheduling problem in grid environment is presented....

Assessing the Cross-Border Impact of Climate Change Response Measures on Iran's Economics Status

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ebtekar, Kian (Author) ; Khajehpour, Hossein (Supervisor) ; Maleki, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research uses systems dynamics modeling to present an integrated assessment of the energy-economic damage caused by climate change in Iran under different climate scenarios. Implementing these policies will cause a change in the use of global oil, followed by a change in the outlook for oil price changes in the future. Due to the high dependence of the country's economy on fossil fuels, oil price changes affect the country's economy. In the first step of this thesis, the system dynamics method examines the prospect of oil price change in climate scenarios. Then, according to the oil supply and production, in different scenarios, the assessment of the future conditions of the oil market...

Pollution Cost assessment of Energy Systems; Case Study: Guilan Province

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Noorikhah, Mahyar (Author) ; Saboohi, Yadollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The energy section has a significant share in the emission of environmental pollutants. Based on the recent investigations about 80 percent of greenhouse gases are emitted into the environment from this sector. This present research has focused on estimating costs of pollution control, using the energy system model. In order to have a better understanding of the relationship between energy and environment, the reference energy system for Guilan Province has been developed; then by having energy demand data, historical capacity data for each technologies and potential of energy resources as well as, the development of provincial energy system has been studied. After the model verification and...

Technical and Economical Feasibility Study of Using Micro-CHP In Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Teymouri Hamzehkolaei, Fatemeh (Author) ; Sattari, Sorna (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Micro Combine Heat and Power (Micro CHP) systems are one of the most important devices for energy saving that produce heat and power with the use of natural gas or other fuels. This research presents technical and economical feasible study of using Micro CHPs in different climatic zones of Iran. In order to economic studies in different climates of Iran, these zones are categorized in to five; Tehran, Rasht, Bandar Abase, Ardebil and Yazd, based on weather condition. Specifications of each zone, such as heating and cooling degree days and other parameters that are required for estimating energy consumption is determined. The calculation of energy consumption has been conducted based upon...

Evaluation of Demand Side Management Programs Using Conservation Screening Curves and its Application in Least Cost Generation Planning

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sajedinia, Ehsan Reza (Author) ; Saboohi, Yadollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Increasing electric energy consumption has necessitated long term planning of power generation based on the concept of least cost planning. Minimization of energy supply and optimization of technology mix had been considered as the main objective functions. But issues on the energy productivity, demand side management, externalities and internalizing external costs have dominated energy scheme which has lead to the development of comprehensive criteria such as Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) and Total Resource Cost (TRC). In these cases it is aimed to develop a comprehensive view of the energy planning that may include the case of DSM and externalities. The objective of the present...

Household Electricity Demand Estimation: A Regression Discontinuity Design Approach

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Cheraghi, Afshin (Author) ; Vesal, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Rahmati, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Estimating electricity demand elasticity in different sectors has been an essential research topic. Considering the fact that pricing electricity in various countries does not follow the same rules, many econometrics methods have been developed to estimate this crucial parameter. Electricity demand elasticity is defined as the percent change in electricity consumption in response to one percentage change in electricity price. Having a correct estimate of this parameter would help policymakers to price electricity properly in order to reach desirable goals in electricity consumption optimization and many other aspects of electricity consumption. In Iran, Tavanir Co. which is a subsidiary of...

Energy Price Reform: A General Equilibrium Model

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nafissi, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Madanizadeh, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Using a micro-based general equilibrium model with four sectors, I introduce a context to study the macroeconomic effects of energy subsidies. I calibrate the model using Iranian energy data, estimating elasticities of substitution and energy shares. Using this calibration, I compare the steady-state results of two compensation plans for energy price reform, tax cuts and cash transfer, explaining the active mechanisms in each scenario and investigating their impact on household welfare and production levels. I calculate that the steady-state energy price in Iran is 40% of regional prices, and we simulate the reform in which prices are increased from this price to regional prices. I conclude...

The Role of Children in the Decisions of Urban Households in Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rajabi, Elham (Author) ; Keshavarz Haddad, Gholamreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Family economics consider children either as "goods" in consumption vector of their parents or as agents that have the ability of full economic independency. While the children reach adolescent age, the theory models their role, not only as individuals with their own preferences, but also as agents who can have an impact on family outcomes. Aim of this study is to focus on the fact that if children of certain ages take part in the households’ decisions or not. We use data from Households Income and Expenditures Survey 2011 for urban area and families with three members, parents and child with the age range 15 - 30. For a closer look, households were divided into four groups which include...
