    Abstract
In this work Halloysite nanotubes were used to synthesis a series of modified acrylamide/Quince seeds-based hydrogels (Poly (AAm-co-QS)/Haln). The as-prepared Poly (AAm-co-QS)/Haln hydrogels displayed improved performance as adsorbent in elimination of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution. The structures of the prepared Poly (AAm-co-QS)/Haln hydrogels were identified by XRD, FT-IR, FE-SEM, BET, TGA and EDX. Effect of pH value on the swelling behavior and dye adsorption performance of as-prepared hydrogels was explored. The adsorption MB results suggested that the adsorption kinetics fitted the pseudo-second-order model. The adsorption experiments at various pH condition indicated that...

Influence of key parameters on crude oil desalting: An experimental and theoretical study

    , Article Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering ; Volume 90-91 , July , 2012 , Pages 107-111 ; 09204105 (ISSN) Vafajoo, L ; Ganjian, K ; Fattahi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Desalting plants are often installed in crude oil production units in order to remove water-soluble salts from an oil stream. Experiments in both the laboratory and field have shown the desalting process parameters to be very complicated. This research reflects the results of a study conducted regarding the impact of operational desalting parameters, including the effects of temperature, injected chemicals and the pH of the crude oil associated water, on an electrostatic desalter on one of the oil platforms owned by the Iranian Oil Offshore Company in the Persian Gulf. The temperature range applied was between 98 to 133 °C, at which the effects on water and oil density as well as salt...

Effect of pH, citrate treatment and silane-coupling agent concentration on the magnetic, structural and surface properties of functionalized silica-coated iron oxide nanocomposite particles

    , Article Physica E: Low-Dimensional Systems and Nanostructures ; Volume 44, Issue 3 , December , 2011 , Pages 618-627 ; 13869477 (ISSN) Mohammad Beigi, H ; Yaghmaei, S ; Roostaazad, R ; Bardania, H ; Arpanaei, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized by coprecipitation of iron chloride salts at various pH values (9, 10, 11 and12) that were adjusted using an ammonia solution. Increasing the pH from 9 to 12 led to decreases in the size of iron oxide nanoparticles from 7.9±1.4 to 5±0.6 nm and the saturation magnetization (M s) from 82.73 to 67.14 emu/g, respectively, when analyzed with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). X-ray diffraction patterns as well as M s values showed that magnetite is the dominantly synthesized phase in the examined pH values. Unmodified iron oxide nanoparticles were coated with silica via the hydrolysis and...

Hydrothermal synthesis of ZnO nanorod arrays for photocatalytic inactivation of bacteria

    , Article Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics ; Volume 42, Issue 22 , 2009 ; 00223727 (ISSN) Akhavan, O ; Mehrabian, M ; Mirabbaszadeh, K ; Azimirad, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Arrays of ZnO nanorods were synthesized on ZnO seed layer/glass substrates by a hydrothermal method at a low temperature of 70 °C. The effect of pH > 7 of the hydrated zinc nitrate-NaOH precursor on the morphology and topography (e.g. size, surface area and roughness), the optical characteristics (e.g. optical transmission and band-gap energy), hydrophilicity and antibacterial activity of the grown ZnO nanostructure and nanorod coatings were investigated. For pH = 11.33 of the precursor (NaOH concentration of 0.10M), a fast growth of ZnO nanorods on the seed layer (length of ∼1 νm in 1.5 h) was observed. The fast growth of the ZnO nanorods resulted in a significant reduction in the optical...
