    , Article Laser and Particle Beams ; Volume 31, Issue 3 , 2013 , Pages 481-486 ; 02630346 (ISSN) Navid, H. A ; Irani, E ; Sadighi Bonabi, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Conversion of CH4 molecule into higher hydrocarbons using two different wavelengths of 248 nm KrF laser and 355 nm of third harmonic of Nd:YAG laser is studied experimentally and theoretically. The stable products are analyzed and the effect of pressure on conversion of methane is measured. The detected reaction products are C2H2, C2H4, and C2H6. The conversion efficiency of 33.5% for 355 nm in comparison to 2.2% conversion for 248 nm for C2H2 is achieved. The potential of laser parameters as an important variable in controlling of final products is investigated

High pressure effects on electronic and magnetic properties of LaOFeAs superconductor

    , Article Journal of Superconductivity and Novel Magnetism ; Vol. 27, issue. 7 , 2014 , p. 1689-1692 Khosroabadi, H ; Sandoghchi, M ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The effect of pressure has been studied on structural and electronic properties of LaOFeAs high-T c superconductor by ab initio density functional theory by using pseudopotential Quantum Espresso code. The lattice parameters and ionic positions in the ambient pressure and some high pressure up to 20 GPa have been calculated. The obtained data versus the simple scaling relation for the ionic positions and distances for mechanical pressures have been discussed. The results of band structure and magnetic moment calculations of this compound versus the applied pressure are presented in this paper. The results are compared with the other experimental and computational data in the literature

Effect of pressure on heat transfer coefficient at the metal/mold interface of A356 aluminum alloy

    , Article International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer ; Volume 39, Issue 5 , 2012 , Pages 705-712 ; 07351933 (ISSN) Fardi Ilkhchy, A ; Jabbari, M ; Davami, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The aim of this paper is to correlate interfacial heat transfer coefficient (IHTC) to applied external pressure, in which IHTC at the interface between A356 aluminum alloy and metallic mold during the solidification of casting under different pressures were obtained using the inverse heat conduction problem (IHCP) method. The method covers the expedient of comparing theoretical and experimental thermal histories. Temperature profiles obtained from thermocouples were used in a finite difference heat flow program to estimate the transient heat transfer coefficients. The new simple formula was presented for correlation between external pressure and heat transfer coefficient. Acceptable...

A flat polymeric membrane sensor for carbon dioxide/nitrogen gas mixture

    Abstract
A gas sensor was developed to measure the concentration of binary gas mixtures. This sensor works based on the permeability change of different gas mixtures across the polymeric membranes. Although high values of permeability and selectivity are needed for an ideal separation, the performance of this sensor mainly depends on the permeability factor. Polysulfone and silicone rubber were applied as the membrane base and coat, respectively. Moreover, in contrast to existing polymeric sensors that use hollow fibers, the present sensor is made of flat membranes. This new design is cheaper, smaller, and easier to use in comparison to the hollow fiber polymeric sensors. In order to test the sensor...

An investigation into the effect of pressure source parameters and water depth on the wake wash wave generated by moving pressure source

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 25, Issue 4 , 2018 , Pages 2162-2174 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Javanmardi, M ; Binns, J ; Thomas, G ; Renilson, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study, the effect of moving pressure source and channel parameters on the generated waves in a channel was numerically investigated; draught, angle of attack, and profile shape as parameters of pressure source, and water depth and blockage factor as channel parameters for wave height. Firstly, the chosen Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) approach was validated with the experimental data over a range of speeds. Then, the CFD study was conducted for further investigations. It was shown that that by enlarging draught, angle of attack, and beam of the pressure source, the wave height generated would be increased. Channel study showed that it was possible to increase the wave height...

Experimental study of onset of subcooled annular flow boiling

    , Article Progress in Nuclear Energy ; Volume 51, Issue 2 , 2009 , Pages 361-365 ; 01491970 (ISSN) Ahmadi, R ; Nouri Borujerdi, A ; Jafari, J ; Tabatabaei, I ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
An experimental study on the onset of nucleate boiling (ONB) is performed for water annular flow to provide a systematic database for low pressure and velocity conditions. A parametric study has been conducted to investigate the effect of pressure, inlet subcooling, heat and mass flux on flow boiling. The test section includes a Pyrex tube with 21 mm inner diameter and a stainless steel (SS-304) rod with outer diameter of 6 mm. Pressure, heat and mass flux are in the range of 1.73 < P < 3.82 bar, 40 < q < 450 kW/m2 and 70 < G < 620 kg/m2 s, respectively. The results illustrate that inception heat flux is extremely dependent on pressure, inlet subcooling temperature and mass flux; for example...
