An analytical expression for the fugacity coefficient of supercritical fluids

    , Article High Temperatures - High Pressures ; Volume 35-36, Issue 5 , 2003 , Pages 529-539 ; 00181544 (ISSN) Parsafar, G. A ; Madani, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Old City Publishing  2003
    Abstract
An analytical expression for the fugacity coefficient of supercritical fluids has been derived from the equation of state. Here, the equation of state known as the linear isotherm regularity, LIR, is used to obtain this expression. We have inverted the LIR equation of state to obtain an appropriate expression for fugacity calculation. The inverted LIR (ILIR) works well at high pressures; but at high temperatures, Tr = T/Tc ≥2, ILIR is valid for the entire pressure range. ILIR is valid over a wide temperature range. Unlike LIR, ILIR is also valid at temperatures above twice the Boyle temperature. Like LIR, the inverted equation is a general equation of state which is valid for all types of...

    Abstract
Micro flora of the effluents from a dairy factory in Tehran(Pegah Dairy Processing Plant) were isolated and screened for their ability to reduce the organic matter content and COD of the effluents. 10 bacteria were selected due to reduction in COD content from the 4th to 6th day of incubation at 30 °C and pH =11. Highest COD reduction were obtained by two isolates, BP3 and BP4, 70.7 % and 69.5 %, respectively (The initial COD concentration was 3000 mg/l and reduced to 880 and 920 mg/l).After optimization of the condition for test organisms, big reductions in COD, carbohydrate, fat and protein content of the effluents were observed by BP3 up to 84.70 %, 98 %, 45.30 % and 53 %, respectively...

Therefore, the filtered effluent by a pretreatment unit from micro-screen drum filter type with a pore size of 20 µm entered the disinfection pilots containing medium pressure (MP) UV lamps and ozonation system as tertiary treatment. In this study, the irradiation dose of UV (430–3,680 mW/cm2), and injection dose (10–40 mg/L), and contact time (1–15 min) of ozonation were altered. The results showed that the total suspended solids were reduced by 61.27% at the maximum...

    Abstract
The performance of a rotating biological contactor (RBC) for posttreatment of the slaughterhouse effluent from an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor was investigated in this study. The 280-L, six-stage RBC pilot plant was operated at different organic loading rates (OLRs) and biodisk speeds. The overall removal efficiencies for soluble biochemical oxygen demand (SBOD), total biochemical oxygen demand (TBOD), and total chemical oxygen demand (TCOD) decreased with increasing OLRs. Disk rotational speed did not have a significant effect on performance in the range studied. The results showed that satisfactory posttreatment to meet regulatory requirements for agricultural purposes...

Crude oil desalter effluent treatment by a hybrid UF/RO membrane separation process

    , Article Desalination ; Volume 238, Issue 1-3 , 2009 , Pages 174-182 ; 00119164 (ISSN) Norouzbahari, S ; Roostaazad, R ; Hesampour, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Crude oil desalter effluent from a Tehran oil refinery was treated by a hybrid UF/RO membrane separation process. Ultrafiltration (UF) was used primarily to remove the emulsified oil droplets followed by the removal of total dissolved solids (TDS) via reverse osmosis (RO). The UF membrane was a hydrophilic flat sheet polysulfone ultrafiltration membrane with MWCO of 100 kDa while the RO membrane was a spiral-wound thin-film composite polyamide. Effect of operating conditions such as transmembrane pressure and crossflow velocity were studied in UF pretreatment. The experimental results showed that the UF membrane removed more than 75% of the oil and can be considered as an effective...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadi, Hossein (Author) ; Moslemi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Erhami, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Numerous strategies have been applied to deal with the drought crisis such as reusing the effluent wastewater in irrigating crops, sports spaces, parks, health, entertainment purposes etc.Although the common treatment of sewage can eliminate almost 95% to 99% of microorganisms but this level of treatment is not enough for reusing the sewage, due to the existence of Pathogenic microorganisms. Therefore, disinfecting the wastewater effluent is one of the crucial stages of sewage’s treatment for preserving water resources or reusing it. Chlorination is the most common method of disinfecting wastewater. However, using a wastewater which is disinfected through Chlorination has Harmful effect on...

Photocatalytic Treatment of Azo based Textile Pollutants by Modified Bismuth Vanadate

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hekmat, Amir (Author) ; Vossoughi, Manoochehr (Supervisor) ; Ghasemi, Shahnaz (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, because of the increase in population and more accessibility of health facilities for people, an increase has occurred in water resources consumption. Recycling water has become so much valuable as the freshwater of the world is limited. Besides the advantages of treated water has for people, discharging the untreated wastewater to the rivers could cause many problems for human health. Many kinds of pollutions, such as textile effluent, are not easy to be treated by traditional methods because of their resistance to them. As these types of wastewater have severe negative effects on living things (both humans and animals), new treatment technologies should be considered. The...

    Abstract
Rotating dissolved air flotation (RDAF) has been utilized for several decades in paper-recycling wastewater treatment; however, it has rarely been addressed in the literature, which makes research into this system challenging and complicated. However, in this work, a full-scale industrial wastewater treatment system for a paper-recycling mill in Mazandaran province, Iran, was evaluated. Experiments indicated that under the same wastewater and chemical conditions, there are differences in the removal efficiencies. This finding was investigated by conducting simulation in ANSYS CFX R18.0 and experimentation simultaneously. Thus, the main purpose of this research was to optimize the operation...

The results showed that oil removal efficiencies up to 90% could be reached at high temperature (80°C) in just one single flotation cell without adding any chemicals. Flotation unit, however, should be followed by at least one...
