An analytical solution to the elastic-plastic behavior of metal matrix composites under tensile loading

, Article 29th Congress of the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences, ICAS 2014 ; 2014 Khosoussi, S ; Mondali, M ; Abedian, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
An analytical approach is proposed for studying the elastic-plastic behavior of short fiber reinforced metal matrix composites under tensile loading. In the proposed method, a micromechanical approach is employed, considering an axi-symmetric unit cell including one fiber and the surrounding matrix. First, the governing equations and the boundary conditions are derived and the elastic solution is obtained based on some shear lag type methods. A plastic deformation is considered for the matrix under each small tensile loading step. Then, applying the successive elastic solutions method, all the plastic strain terms are obtained for the matrix. Thereafter, the elastic-plastic stress transfer...

    Abstract
In this paper, decomposition of the total strain into elastic and plastic parts is investigated for extension of elastic-type constitutive models to finite deformation elastoplasticity. In order to model the elastic behavior, a Hookean-type constitutive equation based on the logarithmic strain is considered. Based on this constitutive equation and assuming the deformation theory of Hencky as well as the yield criteria of von Mises, the elastic-plastic behavior of materials at finite deformation is modeled in the case of the proportional loading. Moreover, this elastoplastic model is applied in order to determine the stress distribution in thick-walled cylindrical pressure vessels at finite...

    Abstract
The initial and subsequent yield surfaces for architected pyramidal lattice materials are investigated analytically. Considering lattice struts as elastic-perfectly plastic thin beams subjected to both axial force and bending moment, a set of nonlinear elastic-plastic constitutive relations for a strut is proposed. Moreover, we phenomenologically present anisotropic pressure-dependent yield functions for pyramidal lattices. Comparison of planar yield surfaces of pyramidal lattices predicted by analytical approach to the ones obtained from phenomenological models shows a good agreement for the type of external loads and range of strains investigated in this study. Investigating the normality...

Chemomechanical Modeling of Silicon Electrode in Lithium-Ion Battery by Considering the Effects of Large Plastic Deformation and Strain Rate

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Bagheri, Afsar (Author) ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor) ; Argavani Hadi, Jamal (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In Li-ion batteries, large volume changes of electrodes with high capacity, such as silicon electrodes during charging and discharging processes (insertion/extraction of lithium into/from the electrode), lead to restrictions on the use of this type of electrode. Given the very high capacity of silicon, predicting and modeling the behavior of silicon electrodes during electrochemical cycles is important and is also addressed in this thesis. First, using the theory of linear elasticity, relations are proposed that couple the diffusion of particles with small elastic deformation. The effect of hydrostatic stress on diffusion and stresses is investigated in lithiation processes. Then, the...
