, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Niksefat, Vahid (Author) ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Usage of electroless Ni-B coatings as coatings with super hardness and wear resistance has been increased widely, but these coatings have low resistance to corrosion. In this project, in order to increase resistance to corrosion, titania powder of szie 200 to 300 nanometers is added to Ni-B coatings to make a composite coating of Ni-B-TiO2 that has better corrosion properties compared to Ni-B coatings. Ultrasonic use for creating composite coatings of Ni-B-TiO2 and the optimum ultrasonic and electroless bath conditions for creating optimum coating in terms of corrosion resistance are determined. These optimum conditions are as follows: speed of 300 rpm for substrate circulation in bath, 250 W...

Palladium plating on macroporous/microporous silicon: application as a hydrogen sensor

    , Article Synthesis and Reactivity in Inorganic, Metal-Organic and Nano-Metal Chemistry ; Volume 37, Issue 5 , 2007 , Pages 377-380 ; 15533174 (ISSN) Rahimi, F ; Iraji Zad, A ; Razi, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
Porous silicon samples are obtained by electrochemical method on n-type wafers in room light. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the porous structure consisted of macropores under a thin microporous layer. Placing the samples in Pd-electroless solution causes the crakes inside the microporous layer and growth of the palladium particles in these crakes. However, removing the microporous layer by KOH solution with an ultrasonically assisted process makes the growth of rather uniform palladium particles on the surface in electroless plating. Variation of the electrical resistance in the presence of diluted hydrogen at room temperature revealed that the best samples have the ability to...

    Abstract
A novel approach is obtained during the fabrication of NiCoFe-B nanotube arrays via electroless method. Porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates fabricated by anodization of aluminum foil were sensitized using PdCl 2 solution and immersed into electroless plating baths at room temperature to produce nanotube arrays. Compositional and morphological properties of the nanotube arrays are characterized. Results indicates the formation of end-closed nanotubes with the dimension of 100-130 nm in outside diameter, which is determined by the pore size of the AAO template, and about 15 nm in thickness of tube walls. The possible formation mechanism of end-closed metallic nanotube arrays is...

AFM , EDX, SEM , XPS , XRD , were applied to analyze structure, morphology and Chemical composition of the fabricated thin films. We measured resistance sensing behavior of prepared films in exposure to different concentration of Hydrogen. All the films were tested under the same conditions. We measured resistance sensing in exposure to concentration below 10000 ppm...

Investigation of hydrogen sensing properties and aging effects of Schottky like Pd/porous Si

    , Article Journal of Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical ; Volume 146, Issue 1 , 8 April , 2010 , PP. 53–60 Razi, F. (Fatemeh) ; Iraji Zad, A. (Azam) ; Rahimi, F. (Fereshteh) ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
We prepared porous silicon samples coated by continuous palladium layer in electroless process. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed cauliflower-shape Pd clusters on the surface. I–V curves of Schottky like Pd/porous Si samples were measured in air and in hydrogen. These measurements showed a metal–interface–semiconductor configuration rather than an ideal Schottky diode. Variations of the electrical current in the presence of diluted hydrogen at room temperature revealed that the samples can sense hydrogen in a wide range of concentration (100–40,000 ppm) without any saturation behavior. Hydrogen sensing properties of these samples were investigated at room temperature for a duration...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tahmasebi Garavand, Nemat (Author) ; Mahdavi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Iraji Zad, Azam (Supervisor)
    Abstract
We have studied making and characterization of gasochromic thin films that are used as gas sensors. Gasochromic films consist of an electronchromic layer and a catalyst layer. Addition of palladium to the surface , increased the sensitivity and decreased the working temperature. The used electrochromic layer was tungsten oxide. WO3 films were fabricated by (PLD) method. The substrates were slide glasses. Structure, morphology and composite of tungsten oxide and optical property of films depend on condition of deposition. The pressure of oxygen gas in chamber and temperature of substrate are two factors that can affect in deposition. We can make layers with different morphology by variation...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Radmand, Amir (Author) ; Hormozi Nezhad, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Noble metallic nanostructures based on their localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) exhibit a phenomenon known as surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) in which the scattering cross sections are dramatically enhanced for molecules adsorbed thereon. The enhancement factor (EF) in typical cases can reach 106 and in recent years, it has been reported that even single-molecule spectroscopy is possible by SERS, suggesting that the EF can be as much as 1014-1015. In this study, we report a simple method to synthesize nanostructures of Ag and Au on metallic wafers and semiconductor via electroless deposition method. This approaches has been demonstrated to deposit metal nanostructures, thin...

Fabrication of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell Modules by Screen-Printing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Chalangar, Ebrahim (Author) ; Taghavinia, Nima (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are emerging as low-cost alternatives to conventional, solid-state, silicon solar cells. A porous network of a nanosize semiconductor material with a wide band-gaps usually TiO2, serves as charge transport medium. A monolayer of dye is chemically adsorbed on this material. Photoexcitation of dye causes injection of electrons into the conduction band of TiO2 from where they diffuse towards a transparent conducting oxide (TCO) substrate. The dye is regenerated through receiving electrons from a redox couple dissolved in the electrolyte. After passing through a desired load, the electrons enter the cell through a counter electrode to reduce the redox ions and...

    Abstract
The present paper demonstrates the performance of the radiation grafting technique as a chemically based surface pretreatment method to adhesion modification of polyethylene surfaces toward the metallic layer. Gamma irradiation over a dose range of 4-10 kGy is used for grafting of vinyl monomers including acrylamide (AAm) and 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP) onto the surface of three different polyethylenes including low density polyethylene (LDPE) and two kinds of high density polyethylenes, namely HDPE-1 and HDPE-2. The grafting yield is evaluated based on the weight increase of the samples. It is found that the grafting yield is dominated by the crystallinity of the polyethylene, so that lower...

Experiments are carried out at room and 550°C temperatures. Heat treatment effects on tribological behavior of this coating are studied. The wear surface and the microstructure of the coatings are analyzed using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersion analysis X-ray, and microhardness testing equipment. It is observed that the forming of continuous oxide film on contacting surfaces of pin and disk improves wear resistance and decreases friction coefficient of the Ni-10% P coating. The results indicate that the wear resistance of...
