Accelerated differentiation of neural stem cells into neurons on ginseng-reduced graphene oxide sheets

    , Article Carbon ; Volume 66 , January , 2014 , Pages 395-406 Akhavan, O ; Ghaderi, E ; Abouei, E ; Hatamie, S ; Ghasemi, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Asian red ginseng was used for green reduction of chemically exfoliated graphene oxide (GO) into reduced graphene oxide (rGO). The reduction level and electrical conductivity of the ginseng-rGO sheets were comparable to those of hydrazine-rGO ones. Reduction by ginseng resulted in repairing the sp 2 graphitic structure of the rGO, while hydrazine-rGO showed more defects and/or smaller aromatic domains. The ginseng-rGO sheets presented a better stability against aggregation than the hydrazine-rGO ones in an aqueous suspension. Whilst the hydrophobic hydrazine-rGO films exhibited no toxicity against human neural stem cells (hNSCs), the hydrophilic GO and ginseng-rGO films (as more...

    , Article Physica E: Low-Dimensional Systems and Nanostructures ; Volume 47 , January , 2013 , Pages 297-302 ; 13869477 (ISSN) Khoeini, F ; Khoeini, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
We present an analytical method to obtain an expression for electron transmission through an array of disordered nanorings (ADNRs) sandwiched between two semi-infinite metallic leads in different lead-ring coupling strengths. Our approach is based on the nearest-neighbor tight-binding approximation and transfer matrix method. First, we derive an analytical formula for electron transmission across the system. Next, we apply our approach to study of the electron transport in a perfect double nanoring (PDNR) and design a NOR gate using the magnetic fluxes inputs. The conductance, current-voltage characteristics and threshold voltage of the system are calculated in the weak and strong coupling...

The surface morphology of the prepared electrode was characterized using the scanning electron microscopy. The results indicate that the electrochemical response of GA is improved significantly at the modified electrode compared with the unmodified electrode. Furthermore, the capabilities of electron transfer on these two electrodes were also investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Under the optimized...

Kinetic studies of glucose electrocatalytic oxidation on GC/Ni electrode

    , Article International Journal of Chemical Kinetics ; Volume 44, Issue 11 , 2012 , Pages 712-721 ; 05388066 (ISSN) Danaee, I ; Jafarian, M ; Forouzandeh, F ; Gobal, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Nickel-modified glassy carbon electrode (GC/Ni) prepared by galvanostatic deposition was used for the electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose in alkaline solutions where different electrochemical methods were employed. In cyclic voltammetry studies, in the presence of glucose an increase in the peak current of the oxidation of nickel hydroxide is followed by a decrease in the corresponding cathodic current. This suggests that the oxidation of glucose is being catalyzed through mediated electron transfer across the nickel hydroxide layer comprising nickel ions of various valence states. Under the chronoamperometric regime, the reaction followed a Cottrellian behavior and the diffusion...

    Abstract
In this paper, we introduce the sequential deposition method for enhancing the performance of nanocomposite counter electrodes (CEs) in quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSCs). Here, various CEs are made by the deposition of CuS, PbS, and CuS/PbS nanocomposite layers on an FTO (fluorine doped tin oxide) coated glass substrate by a simple successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method. The result indicates that the efficiency of the cells with CuS/PbS CEs is enhanced by 2.65% compared with the bare CuS (0.99%) or PbS (1.47%) CEs. Also, no considerable improvement is observed for PbS/CuS CEs (1.09%), which indicates that the order of PbS and CuS deposition is critical for...

    Abstract
Graphene-supported BiPO4/Ag/Ag3PO4 photocatalyst has been fabricated by simple hydrothermal and impregnation reaction. In BiPO4/Ag/Ag3PO4 based on Reduced Graphene Oxide (RGO), this network renders numerous pathways for rapid mass transport, strong adsorption and multireflection of incident light; meanwhile, the interface between BiPO4/Ag/Ag3PO4 and RGO increases the active sites and electron transfer rate. BiPO4/Ag/Ag3PO4 based on RGO noticeably exhibited high photocatalytic activity than that of BiPO4/Ag/Ag3PO4 and P25 under visible light irradiation for cationic dye (Rhodamine B), anionic dye (methyl orange) and 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) as a neutral pollutant, which are usually difficult to...

    , Article Journal of the Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers ; Volume 61 , 2016 , Pages 138-146 ; 18761070 (ISSN) Mojaddami, M ; Andaji Garmaroudi, Z ; Mohammadi, M. R ; Madaah Hosseini, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Herein, we report a double-layer photoanode electrode composed of TiO2 nanoparticles active layer and a mixture of nanoparticles and newly proposed skein-like nanotubes (NTs) top layer. Such structure performs well in solar light harvesting due to first, the top layer exhibits superior light scattering and second, the active layer with high dye-loading can make better use of the back-scattered light. The results reveal that 30-40 nm nanoparticles have anatase structure, whereas 5-7 μm skein-like NTs show a mixture of anatase and rutile phases. Photovoltaic measurements demonstrate that by tuning mass ratio between nanoparticles and skein-like NTs, the cells based on single-layer photoanode...

    Abstract
This paper presents solid-state ligand exchange of spin-coated colloidal lead sulfide quantum dot (PbS QD) films by methylammonium iodide (MAI) and integration of them in depleted heterojunction solar (DHS) devices having an antireflecting (AR) nanocone plastic structure. Time-resolved photoluminescence measurements determine a shorter lifetime of the charge carries on a semiconductor (TiO2) electron transfer layer for the MAI-passivated QD films as compared with those with long-chain aliphatic or short thiol ligands. Consequently, the DHS device yields improved power conversion efficiency (>125%) relative to oleic-acid-passivated PbS QD films. Using anodized aluminum oxide templates, an...

Persistent quantum coherence and strong coupling enable fast electron transfer across the cds/tio2 interface: a time-domain ab initio simulation

    , Article Journal of Physical Chemistry C ; Volume 122, Issue 44 , 2018 , Pages 25606-25616 ; 19327447 (ISSN) Mehdipour, H ; Akimov, A. V ; Jankowska, J ; Rezakhanai, A. T ; Tafreshi, S. S ; De Leeuw, N. H ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Prezhdo, O. V ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Fast transfer of photoinduced electrons and subsequent slow electron-hole recombination in semiconductor heterostructures give rise to long-lived charge separation which is highly desirable for photocatalysis and photovoltaic applications. As a type II heterostructure, CdS/TiO2 nanocomposites extend the absorption edge of the light spectrum to the visible range and demonstrate effective charge separation, resulting in more efficient conversion of solar energy to chemical energy. This improvement in performance is partly explained by the fact that CdS/TiO2 is a type II semiconductor heterostructure and CdS has a smaller energy band gap than UV-active TiO2. Ultrafast transient absorption...
