Payment Cost Minimization-Based Short-Term Unit Commitment Considering Incentive-Based Demand

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Azizi, Ali (Author) ; Hoseini, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
After restructuring in power systems, Independent System Operators (ISO's) are looked for an appropriate auction mechanism to find the market operation point. In deregulated electricity markets, Offer Cost Minimization (OCM) auction is used to minimize the total bid cost for selecting offer and demand bids. But a uniform market clearing price (MCP) or Locational Marginal Price (LMP) is used for consumer payments. Hence, the minimized bid cost is different from settlement cost. The used mechanisms are for manufactures offer and their cost functions optimization. The Payment Cost Minimization (PCM) is one of the mechanims that affect directly on the consumers payment and lead to reduction of...

Energy Storage Planning from the Viewpoint of the Electricity Retailer in the Presence of Demand Response Programs

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ezzati abdoljabbar, Behzad (Author) ; Ehsan, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Electricity has been known as one of the humans’ essential needs. The emergence of a competitive environment in most aspects of humans life and its considerable impact on the economic system in recent years has promoted this idea that the electricity should be traded as a commodity. In this business, the competition has been based on the convenient access for subscribers, and the exclusive electricity environment has became a competitive environment. Therefore, new roles have emerged. These roles take place in the direction of generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy with the aim of improving them. Retailer is one of the emerged roles for restructuring in the field of...

Use of Shared Energy Storage System for Peak Shaving

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghaneian Sebdani, Ali (Author) ; Hosseini, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Smart grids enable the implementation of novel energy management schemes for network operators. The restructuring of the power grid and the smartening of consumers, in addition to addressing environmental issues faced by traditional networks, have enabled many capabilities in the power grid, such as increasing network flexibility, peak shaving, and slowing down equipment obsolescence. The use of novel schemes, however, comes with its own set of challenges. One of these challenges is the uncertainty in the network, particularly on the supply and demand sides. Another challenge is the level of consumer engagement in energy management schemes. In this research, which is based on energy sharing,...

Stochastic security constrained unit commitment incorporating demand side reserve

    , Article International Journal of Electrical Power and Energy Systems ; Volume 56 , March , 2014 , Pages 175-184 ; ISSN: 01420615 Sahebi, M. M. R ; Hosseini, S. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Increasing the social welfare and achieving real competitive markets are the main purposes of consumers participation in electricity markets. Hence, Demand Response Programs (DRPs) have been designed to consider the consumers participation. One of these programs named Emergency Demand Response Program (EDRP) is based on consumers' responses to high electricity prices and to the incentives that are paid by Independent System Operators (ISOs) in the critical hours. In this paper, a model has been proposed for EDRP participation in the Stochastic Security Constrained Unit Commitment (SCUC) program. Both the spinning reserve and the demand side reserve, which is modeled as EDRP, are taken into...

Simultaneous implementation of optimal demand response and security constrained unit commitment

    , Article 16th Electrical Power Distribution Conference, EPDC 2011, 19 April 2011 through 20 April 2011 ; April , 2011 , Page(s): 1 - 5 ; 9789644631498 (ISBN) Kia, M ; Reza Sahebi, M. M ; Abedini Duki, E ; Hamid Hosseini, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Unit Commitment is the optimization process for minimizing the total cost of real power generation meeting the generating units and the system constraints. With the restructuring in power systems, the matter of great concern is the fuel cost and consequently electricity price increase in some hours of the day. Accordingly, the optimum performance of Demand Side Management (DSM) has been gaining great attention recently. In this paper, the effect of the optimum performance of Emergency Demand Response Program (EDRP) on the cost of the unit commitment problem considering the line flow constrains is scrutinized. Due to the fact that the simultaneous adoption of the unit commitment and demand...
