    Abstract
Over the past few years, development of wearable devices has gained increasing momentum. Notably, the demand for stretchable strain sensors has significantly increased due to many potential and emerging applications such as human motion monitoring, prosthetics, robotic systems, and touch panels. Recently, hydrogels have been developed to overcome the drawbacks of the elastomer-based wearable strain sensors, caused by insufficient biocompatibility, brittle mechanical properties, complicated fabrication process, as the hydrogels can provide a combination of various exciting properties such as intrinsic electrical conductivity, suitable mechanical properties, and biocompatibility. There are...

Shrinking FPGA static power via machine learning-based power gating and enhanced routing

    , Article IEEE Access ; Volume 9 , 2021 , Pages 115599-115619 ; 21693536 (ISSN) Seifoori, Z ; Asadi, H ; Stojilovic, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Despite FPGAs rapidly evolving to support the requirements of the most demanding emerging applications, their high static power consumption, concentrated within the routing resources, still presents a major hurdle for low-power applications. Augmenting the FPGAs with power-gating ability is a promising way to effectively address the power-consumption obstacle. However, the main challenge when implementing power gating is in choosing the clusters of resources in a way that would allow the most power-saving opportunities. In this paper, we take advantage of machine learning approaches, such as K-means clustering, to propose efficient algorithms for creating power-gating clusters of FPGA...

The detector's output SNR as a criterion for receiver placement in MIMO DVB-T based passive coherent location

    , Article International Congress on Ultra Modern Telecommunications and Control Systems and Workshops ; 2012 , Pages 431-435 ; 21570221 (ISSN) ; 9781467320153 (ISBN) Chitgarha, M. M ; Radmard, M ; Majd, M. N ; Khalaj, B. H ; Nayebi, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
As the DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial)'s use is outspreading, one of its interesting emerging applications is to use DVB-T stations as non-cooperative transmitters in order to detect and localize targets. An important and favorable characteristic of DVB-T for this application is its being working in a Single Frequency Network (SFN), so that multiple transmitters can be used simultaneously to detect the targets. In addition, using multiple antennas at the receiver side leads to the well known configuration known as MIMO. However, one of the obstacles, arisen in such configurations, is the receive antennas' placement in proper positions so that the detection performance is...

    Computational electromagnetics in plasmonic nanostructures

    , Article Journal of Materials Chemistry C ; Volume 9, Issue 31 , 2021 , Pages 9791-9819 ; 20507534 (ISSN) Amirjani, A ; Sadrnezhaad, K ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Plasmonic nanostructures have emerging applications in solar cells, photodynamic therapies, surface-enhanced Raman scattering detection, and photocatalysis due to the excitation of localized surface plasmons. The exciting electric field resulting from the collective oscillation of free electrons is highly dependent on the dielectric medium, shape, size, composition, and configuration of plasmonic nanostructures. From an engineering perspective, one can tune the optimal properties in the desired applications of geometrical parameters such as the shape, size, and nanoparticles' configuration. Such optimization should be performed analytically (with exact solutions) or numerically (with...
