    Abstract
One of the most prominent hybrid solar devices is the photovoltaic thermal system (PVTS), which is able to provide simultaneous electricity and thermal energy. The thermal energy is the heat absorbed by the photovoltaic (PV) module and transferred to the attached thermal collector and finally to the heat transfer fluid. Utilizing a proper heat transfer fluid is an effective means to increase in obtained thermal and electrical powers and enhance PV thermal management. Over the past decade, employing nanofluids thanks to their superior thermophysical properties became a proved strategy to improve the efficiency of the PVTS. This paper covers cutting-edge researches on nanofluid-based PVTS via...

    Abstract
The gas turbine (GT) is known to feature low capital cost to power ratio, high flexibility, high reliability without complexity, short delivery time, early commissioning and commercial operation and fast starting-accelerating. Hence, researchers all over the world are working to increase the output power and efficiency of gas turbine cycle. One of the important techniques to increase the output power of such cycles is the compressor inlet air cooling method. The objective of this paper is to analysis the gas turbine cycle from both energy and exergy point of view. Thus, two important methods for increasing the output power, i.e. fog and media inlet air cooling systems are discussed....

Energy and exergy analysis of intensified condensate stabilization unit with water draw pan

    , Article Applied Thermal Engineering ; Volume 155 , 2019 , Pages 49-58 ; 13594311 (ISSN) Tavan, Y ; Hosseini, S. H ; Ahmadi, G ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2019
    Abstract
An industrial condensate stabilizer unit is simulated with HYSYS 3.1 software when the excessive water is present on the trays. Effects of reboiler temperature, excess water flow rate, and incoming stream temperature on the Reid vapor pressure (RVP), temperature distribution along the column and impurity concentrations along the stabilization column, as well as, energy usage are studied. In addition, the optimal location for the water draw tray for the condensate stabilizer column is found. It is observed that the presence of water draw pan in the column leads to about 15% and 28% reduction, respectively, in the reboiler and the compressor duties compared to the industrial case without water...

A comparative study on bifacial photovoltaic/thermal modules with various cooling methods

    , Article Energy Conversion and Management ; Volume 263 , 2022 ; 01968904 (ISSN) Ma, T ; Kazemian, A ; Habibollahzade, A ; Salari, A ; Gu, W ; Peng, J ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The bifacial photovoltaic/thermal module is an emerging concept that can provide electricity and heat simultaneously, taking advantage of both front and rear sides of the panel; therefore, exhibiting a better performance compared to a conventional photovoltaic module or photovoltaic thermal module. In this study, four configurations of the bifacial photovoltaic/thermal module with different cooling methods have been proposed, i.e., cooling performed at either the upper or the lower surface, in parallel (applied to both upper and lower surfaces having similar start/endpoints), and swinging air back and forth (by guiding the air over the upper and lower surfaces, respectively). The...

Energy and exergy analyses of an integrated gas turbine thermoacoustic engine

    , Article Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy ; Volume 225, Issue 4 , June , 2011 , Pages 389-402 ; 09576509 (ISSN) Karimi, M ; Ghorbanian, K ; Gholamrezaei, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
In this article, an attempt is made to utilize the exhaust gases of a small gas turbine to augment power output through the employment of a thermoacoustic system. A simple gas turbine cycle is selected as the base cycle and it is assumed that the thermoacoustic system is powered only by the waste heat of the base gas turbine. A comprehensive cycle analysis of the integrated gas turbine thermoacoustic engine (IGTTE) is carried out from an energy and exergy point of view. Exergy efficiency and internal exergy efficiency are calculated for the different components of the base gas turbine engine as well as the IGTTE. Value and exergy flow diagrams are used to investigate the possible...

    Abstract
In this study, hybrid renewable energy system based on wind/electrolyzer/PEM fuel cell are conceptually modeled, and also, exergy and energy analysis are performed. The energy and exergy flows are investigated by the proposed model for Khaf region-Iran with high average wind speed and monsoon. Exergy and energy analysis framework is made based on thermodynamic, electro-chemical and mechanical model of the different component of hybrid system. Also, the effects of various operating parameters in exergy efficiency are calculated. The results show an optimum wind speed where the exergy efficiency and power coefficient is at maximum level, and also, when the ambient temperature start to be...

A year-round study of a photovoltaic thermal system integrated with phase change material in Shanghai using transient model

    Abstract
In the study, the daily and monthly performance of a photovoltaic thermal system integrated with phase change material is investigated in Shanghai, China. A three-dimensional model of photovoltaic thermal system integrated with phase change material system is developed and numerically simulated. Water is considered as working fluid, and the fluid flow regime is laminar and incompressible. Both quasi-steady and transient models are compared together, and the transient model is selected because of its higher accuracy. Validation analysis is performed on the numerical model to show the reasonable agreement of current research compared to some other research. After obtaining the suitable...

Thermodynamic analysis of application of organic Rankine cycle for heat recovery from an integrated DIR-MCFC with pre-reformer

    , Article Energy Conversion and Management ; Volume 67 , 2013 , Pages 197-207 ; 01968904 (ISSN) Vatani, A ; Khazaeli, A ; Roshandel, R ; Panjeshahi, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This work deals with waste heat recovery from a proposed direct internal reforming molten carbonate fuel cell (DIR-MCFC), including an integrated pre-reformer. In this regard, some advantages are attainable over exhaust gas recycling. For instance, due to low temperature in the pre-reformer, carbon deposition and coke formation resulting from higher hydrocarbons can be eliminated. In this study, the cathode outlet provides the heat requirement for the pre-reforming process. After partial heat recovery from the cathode outlet, the stream still has a considerable energy and exergy (352.55 °C and 83.687 kW respectively). This study investigates waste heat recovery from the proposed DIR-MCFC,...
