    Abstract
Time reversal is a technique in which a signal is pre-filtered such that it focuses both in time and space. Spatial focusing reduces interference to other co-existing systems and temporal focusing concentrates the received power in a very short interval. Energy detector is a practical receiver for ultra-wideband (UWB) time reversed signals due to its low-complexity and low-cost implementation. However, selection of an optimum integration interval to minimize the bit error rate is a major problem. Weighted energy detection is an effective technique to overcome this problem and enhance the performance of energy detectors. However, this improvement is achieved at the expense of non-trivial...

A VLSI architecture for multiple antenna eigenvalue-based spectrum sensing

    , Article 2012 19th IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems, ICECS 2012, 9 December 2012 through 12 December 2012 ; December , 2012 , Pages 153-156 ; 9781467312615 (ISBN) Safavi, S. M ; Shabany, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
An Eigenvalue-based detection (EBD) scheme, is proposed as an efficient method to overcome the noise uncertainty and the SNR wall problem in conventional energy detection (ED) schemes. Despite remarkable efforts made to analyze the EBD performance, a VLSI implementation is missing in literature. In this paper, a new FFT-based EBD algorithm is introduced, which eliminates the need for filter banks and discrete wavelet packet transform to channelize the input signal. The proposed method enables the utilization of the EBD algorithm in high-resolution spectrum sensing approaches. Moreover, it enables the detection of signals with SNRs as low as -10 dB. A low-power, area-efficient yet real-time...

Risk-aware stochastic bidding strategy of renewable micro-grids in day-ahead and real-time markets

    Abstract
A comprehensive optimal bidding strategy model has been developed for renewable micro-grids to take part in day-ahead (energy and reserve) and real-time markets considering uncertainties. A two-stage stochastic programming method has been employed to integrate the uncertainties into the problem. Moreover, the Latin hypercube sampling method has been proposed to generate the wind speed, solar irradiance, and load realizations via Weibull, Beta, and normal probability density functions, respectively. In addition, a hybrid fast forward/backward scenario reduction technique has been applied to reduce the large number of scenarios. Furthermore, the risk of participation in the markets has been...
