    , Article Zeitschrift fur Physikalische Chemie ; Volume 223, Issue 3 , 2009 , Pages 263-278 ; 09429352 (ISSN) Pazuki, G. R ; Taghikhani, V ; Vossough, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
A new local composition model was used to study the phase behavior of polymer-polymer and polymer-salt aqueous two-phase systems. The proposed model has three terms which account for the combinatorial, the long-range and the short-range effects in solution. The Flory-Huggins and the Debye-Hückel models were used for the combinatorial and long-range contributions. The interaction parameters of the model studied in this work can be regressed using a non-liner regression between the experimental data and those obtained from the proposed model. Also, this model was applied for modeling the partitioning of biomolecules in polymer-polymer and polymer-salt aqueous two-phase systems. The results...

    , Article ESO Astrophysics Symposia ; Volume 2008 , 2008 , Pages 3-7 ; 14312433 (ISSN); 3540747125 (ISBN); 9783540747123 (ISBN) Arbabi Bidgoli, S ; Movahed, M. S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The interpretation of a vast number of cosmological observations in the framework of FRW models suggests that the major part of the energy density of the universe is in form of dark energy with still unknown physical nature. In some models for dark energy, which are motivated by particle physics theory, the equation of state and the contribution of dark energy to the energy density of the universe can be variable. Here we study structure formation in a parameterized dark energy model, and compare its predictions with recent observational data, from the Supernova Ia gold sample and the parameters of large scale structure determined by the 2-degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS), and...

    , Article Iranian Journal of Science and Technology, Transaction B: Technology ; Volume 27, Issue 2 , 2003 , Pages 261-268 ; 03601307 (ISSN) Amiri, M. C ; Ghotbi, C ; Hatefi Rad, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    2003
    Abstract
Interfacial tension of both 36 binary and 6 ternary liquid-liquid systems at 298 K, has been predicted through a reliable thermodynamic model. To properly predict interfacial tension, it is necessary to calculate interfacial area of each constituent of the mixtures. For such estimation, two empirical correlations have been proposed for binary mixtures whose one component is water and experimental data have been used to calculate interfacial area of ternary mixtures. The UNIQUAUC Excess Gibbs Free energy model and its parameters have been used to calculate the concentration and activity coefficients in the bulk and interface phases. The overall average deviation of the predicted binary...

    Abstract
Greenhouses require energy in order to provide a proper environment for crop production. Utilizing solar energy in solar greenhouses is a sustainable solution to face this problem. In this study, a solar greenhouse concept is considered, and a dynamic thermal model is developed to predict the inside air temperature. , M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohtasebi, Morteza (Author) ; Avami, Akram (Supervisor) ; Roshandel, Ramin (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The population growth and scarcity of resources such as water and land make the food security as one the most important critical priorities in the world. Development of food production in greenhousesinstead of the traditional agriculture in rural areas is an efficient and applicable approache to reach food security and optimum use of water resources. However, this requires more capital. An important part of this cost is related to the cost of energy supply for heating and cooling in order to provide a suitable condition for the growth of plants. Optimal design of a rural energy supply and optimal operation of existing greenhouses to maximize the benefit of the greenhouse owners and to...

    2012
    Abstract
In this research, an algorithm based on the Q-state Potts model is presented for modeling the austenite to ferrite transformation. In the algorithm, it is possible to exactly track boundary migration of the phase formed during transformation. In the algorithm, effects of changes in chemical free energy, strain free energy and interfacial energies of austenite-austenite, ferrite-ferrite and austenite-ferrite during transformation are considered. From the algorithm, the kinetics of transformation and mean ferrite grain size for different cooling rates are calculated. It is found that there is a good agreement between the calculated and experimental results

    Abstract
In this work, the partition coefficients of Cephalexin in aqueous two-phase systems containing PEG [poly(ethylene glycol)] 4000, 10000 and K 2HPO4, Na3Citrate (C6H 5Na3O7 5, 5H2O) have been measured. The experimental data were obtained in a wide range of temperatures, (28.2 to 37.2) °C. The effects of temperature, pH, polymer concentration, polymer molecular weight, and salt concentration on the partitioning of Cephalexin were also studied. The results showed that salt concentration has a large effect on the partition coefficient, and temperature has an almost negligible effect. The Chen-NRTL Gibbs energy model was used to correlate the experimental results. © 2009 American Chemical Society

    Abstract
Sulfate anion is well-known for being one of the most active agents to be injected into the oil reservoirs and being capable of not only altering the interfacial properties of crude oil but also enhancing the water solution properties in oil recovery. In the current study, the effects of temperature and pressure were studied on interfacial tension (IFT) as well as the adsorption behavior of two different solutions containing sulfate anion using experimental measurements and modeling approaches. Although it was expected that IFT values of the studied systems might decrease as temperature increased due to the improvement in the molecule mobility and solubility of crude oil in water, which...

Home Energy Management in Multi-carrier Energy Environment and Investigating Its Impacts on Electrical Distribution System

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Rastegar, Mohammad (Author) ; Fotuhi Firouzabad, Mahmud (Supervisor) ; Zareipour, Hamid Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Increasing demand, rising energy costs, and environmental concerns are some of the main challenges faced by the energy industry in upcoming years. With such a diverse set of issues, it is important to take a holistic approach to addressing these concerns and therefore transitioning to a smarter grid. Demand response (DR) has recently been introduced as a promising solution to these issues in the smart grid era. Since residential demand is a significant portion of the total system load, residential customers play critical roles in a proper implementation of DR programs. The main obstacle in broad implementation of residential DR is the low participation of customers in these programs. Lack of...

    Abstract
Considering the increase of particulate matters in the last three decades in Tehran, many endeavores have been made in order to determine and recognize the contributing factors in the production of particulate matters. Although emission source of particulate matters is available in the form of emission inventories, these emission sources are not accurate and they need to be modified. By modeling the air pollution we can determine the relationship of pollution source and their effect on air quality.Modeling air pollution helps us to determine the relationship of pollution sources and their effect on air quality. Air pollution managers use models to determine the contribution of emission...
