Bi-level equilibrium of energy retailer–smart energy hub game in integrated energy market

    , Article IET Smart Grid ; Volume 4, Issue 3 , 2021 , Pages 284-296 ; 25152947 (ISSN) Sheikhi, A ; Khazeni, S ; Rayati, M ; Ashourizadeh, A ; Sharif University of Technology
John Wiley and Sons Inc  2021
    Abstract
An integrated view of energy markets has led to the introduction of new market participants named energy retailers (ERs). Competition among ERs in an integrated market greatly improves market performance in areas such as sustainability, supply security, and environmental awareness. ER performance is evaluated in an integrated market with emission penalty reduction in the objective function. Bi-level programming is used to model an ER game, and the equilibria of different configurations are compared. In the game's first level, ERs offer various energy carrier selling prices to optimise profits. In the second level, consumers respond by switching from the retail market to minimise their energy...

Model for R&D planning in energy sector

    , Article IEMC 2005: 2005 IEEE International Engineering Management Conference, St. John's, Newfoundland, 11 September 2005 through 13 September 2005 ; Volume II , 2005 , Pages 663-667 ; 078039139X (ISBN); 9780780391390 (ISBN) Shafiei, E ; Saboohi, Y ; Ghofrani, M. Abstract
Optimal allocation of resources for R&D on new energy technologies is an important issue in the process of development of energy system models. In this study, a model of R&D planning in energy sector has been developed and it is then linked to the energy system model. Energy system model is used as a tool for the technology assessment and prioritization of new energy technologies is evaluated with the help of this model. Based on the economic and environmental impact of new technologies, the optimal allocation of resources for R&D of new technology is estimated with the help of the R&D planning model. The conceptual formulation of the model and its integration with the energy technology...

The Optimal Model of Energy and Exergy Flow for Evaluating Technology Changes in Oil Refinery (Case Study: North Tehran Oil Refinery)

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseinnezhad, Ahmad (Author) ; Saboohi, Yadollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this project, a comprehensive model is developed for energy and exergy analysis in refineries. By studying Tehran’s North Refinery unit as a case study, the Reference Energy System as the conceptual model of the thesis and also Energy & Exergy Balance table is prepared. Through the exergy balance table, the Exergy efficiency defined. These factors help to settle priority for efficiency improvement investment. Then, the economic and technical relations and costraints are formulized using linear programming model. In this model, the CO2 emission and exergy destruction costs are intended. Using Energy System Model (ESM) software, the thesis model is advanced as RESM stands for Refinery...

Model of sustainable development of energy system, case of Hamedan

    , Article Energy Policy ; Volume 104 , 2017 , Pages 66-79 ; 03014215 (ISSN) Sahabmanesh, A ; Saboohi, Y ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2017
    Abstract
Sustainable economic growth and improvement of the social welfare depend upon the sufficient supply of energy resources, while the utilization of energy resources is one of the main factors of environmental degradation. This research is involved with development of a sustainable energy system model and a new method for sustainability assessment. This model represents the flow of energy from primary resources through processing, conversion, and end-use technologies in an optimization framework where the useful energy demand in various social and economic sectors is met. The impact of energy supply and consumption chain on the environment at each level of energy system is also embedded in the...

Stochastic modeling of the energy supply system with uncertain fuel price - A case of emerging technologies for distributed power generation

    , Article Applied Energy ; Volume 93 , 2012 , Pages 668-674 ; 03062619 (ISSN) Mirkhani, S ; Saboohi, Y ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
A deterministic energy supply model with bottom-up structure has limited capability in handling the uncertainties. To enhance the applicability of such a model in an uncertain environment two main issues have been investigated in the present paper. First, a binomial lattice is generated based on the stochastic nature of the source of uncertainty. Second, an energy system model (ESM) has been reformulated as a multistage stochastic problem. The result of the application of the modified energy model encompasses all uncertain outcomes together and enables optimal timing of capacity expansion. The performance of the model has been demonstrated with the help of a case study. The case study has...

Optimal policy of energy innovation in developing countries: Development of solar PV in Iran

    , Article Energy Policy ; Volume 37, Issue 3 , 2009 , Pages 1116-1127 ; 03014215 (ISSN) Shafiei, E ; Saboohi, Y ; Ghofrani, M.B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
The purpose of this study is to apply managerial economics and methods of decision analysis to study the optimal pattern of innovation activities for development of new energy technologies in developing countries. For this purpose, a model of energy research and development (R&D) planning is developed and it is then linked to a bottom-up energy-systems model. The set of interlinked models provide a comprehensive analytical tool for assessment of energy technologies and innovation planning taking into account the specific conditions of developing countries. An energy-system model is used as a tool for the assessment and prioritization of new energy technologies. Based on the results of the...

Impact of innovation programs on development of energy system: case of Iranian electricity-supply system

    , Article Energy Policy ; Volume 37, Issue 6 , 2009 , Pages 2221-2230 ; 03014215 (ISSN) Shafiei, E ; Saboohi, Y ; Ghofrani, M. B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
The paper presents further experiments with an extended version of a comprehensive model for assessment of energy technologies and research and development (R&D) planning to evaluate the impact of innovation programs on development of Iranian electricity-supply system. This analytical instrument is a model of energy R&D resource allocation with an explicit perspective of developing countries which has been linked to a bottom-up energy-systems model. Three emerging electricity generation technologies of solar PV, wind turbine and gas fuel cell are considered in the model and the impact of innovation programs on cost-reducing innovation for them is examined. The main results provided by the...
