This paper presents a hierarchically distributed algorithm for the execution of distribution state estimation function in active networks equipped with some phasor measurement units. The proposed algorithm employs voltage-based state estimation in rectangular form and is well-designed for large-scale active distribution networks. For this purpose, as the first step, the distribution network is supposed to be divided into some overlapped zones and local state estimations are executed in parallel for extracting operating states of these zones. Then, using coordinators in the feeders and the substation, the estimated local voltage profiles of all zones are coordinated with the local state...

In this paper, vehicle longitudinal velocity during the braking process is estimated by measuring the wheels speed. Here, a new algorithm based on the unknown input Kalman filter is developed to estimate the vehicle longitudinal velocity with a minimum mean square error and without using the value of braking torque in the estimation procedure. The stability and convergence of the filter are analysed and proved. Effectiveness of the method is shown by designing a real experiment and comparing the estimation result with actual longitudinal velocity computing from a three-axis accelerometer output

Model based hand motion estimation through stereo vision

    , Article Proceedings of the 2013 6th International Congress on Image and Signal Processing, CISP 2013 ; Volume 1 , Dec , 2013 , Pages 117-121 ; 9781479927647 (ISBN) Vahid, M. R ; Jahed, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Recognition of hand movements plays a key role in both human computer interaction and rehabilitation activities. This paper focuses on hand pose estimation and motion tracking through a model-based stereo vision-based system. To allow for a complete 3D motion, initially a simple hand model with 20 landmark points was constructed and used to track its motion through a sequence of stereo images. Furthermore, a skeletal model representing the kinematical features of the hand was utilized to provide a meaningful hand motion and gesticulation. To evaluate and eventually recognize the performed hand motion, Kalman filter and Kalman smoother algorithms were implemented to evaluate the efficacy and...
