Highly diastereoselective aminoalkylation of naphthols with chiral amines mediated by lithium perchlorate solution in diethyl ether

Abstract
One-pot, three-component, Mannich reaction of naphthols with in situ prepared imines in 5 M ethereal lithium perchlorate at room temperature affords the corresponding aminoalkylated products in high yields with high diastereoselectivities. The process is exemplified by the reaction of 2-naphthol with (R)-1-phenylethylamine and an aromatic aldehyde in concentrated ethereal lithium perchlorate solution, which affords a highly diastereoselective access to the requisite 2-aminoalkylated product. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. Stereoelectronic effects: A simple yet powerful tool to manipulate anion affinity

Abstract
Different strategies are employed in designing strong and selective anion receptors but stereoelectronic effects have been largely ignored. In this work, the stereo configuration of a non-interacting ether is found to have a large impact of more than two orders of magnitude on the binding of a rigid diol with tetrabutylammonium chloride in acetonitrile-d3. A favorable carbon-oxygen dipole and an intramolecular C-H⋯OH hydrogen bond in an equatorially substituted ether is found to be energetically more important than a stabilizing hydrogen bond in the corresponding axially oriented alcohol. IR spectroscopy is also used to probe the structures of the bound complexes and several binding motifs...

Abstract
In addition to its biological importance, DPhPC lipid bilayers are widely used in droplet bilayers, study of integral membrane proteins, drug delivery systems as well as patch-clamp electrophysiology of ion channels, yet their mechanical properties are not fully measured. Herein, we examined the effect of the ether linkage on the mechanical properties of ester- and ether-DPhPC lipid bilayers using all-atom molecular dynamics simulation. The values of area per lipid, thickness, intrinsic lateral pressure profile, order parameter, and elasticity moduli were estimated using various computational frameworks and were compared with available experimental values. Overall, a good agreement was...
The role of co-solvents in improving the direct transesterification of wet microalgal biomass under supercritical condition

Abstract
In this research, direct conversion of wet algal biomass into biodiesel using supercritical methanol was studied. In this process, microalgal lipids simultaneously was extracted and converted to biodiesel under high pressure and temperature conditions without using any catalyst. Several experiments have been performed to optimize the methanol amount and it has been revealed that the best performance was achieved by using methanol/wet biomass ratio of 8:1. The effect of using various co-solvents in increasing the efficiency of the supercritical process was investigated. It has been shown that hexane was the most effective co-solvent and its optimal ratio respect to wet biomass was 6:1. The...
