    , Article Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering ; Volume 90, Issue 4 , 2012 , Pages 956-972 ; 00084034 (ISSN) Boozarjomehry, R. B ; Laleh, A. P ; Svrcek, W. Y ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Synthesis of the optimum distillation column sequence (DCS), which incorporates a huge search space composed of both conventional and complex arrangements, is a highly complicated combinatorial problem in the field of chemical process design and optimisation. In this study, a novel procedure for the synthesis of optimum DCS proposed by Boozarjomehry et al. [Boozarjomehry et al., Can. J. Chem. Eng. 87, 477-492 (2009)] is expanded to include the complex distillation arrangements. The method is based on evolutionary algorithms, and the total annual cost (TAC) is the main criterion used to screen alternatives. Efficient procedure has been proposed for encoding mechanism to include and classify...

Detection of characteristic points of ecg using quadratic spline wavelet transfrom

    , Article 3rd International Conference on Signals, Circuits and Systems, SCS 2009, 6 November 2009 through 8 November 2009, Medenine ; 2009 ; 9781424443987 (ISBN) Niknazar, M ; Vahdat, B. V ; Mousavi, S. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper presents a method for ECG characteristic points detection based on Wavelet Transform (WT). Wavelet Transform leads to more accurate results in analyzing nonstationary signals such as ECG. The selected wavelet is quadratic spline wavelet. Using quadratic spline mother wavelet, a method for detection of QRS complex and T and P waves is presented and evaluated with the help of MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database. Experimental results show excellent performance of the proposed method. © 2009 IEEE

Performance improvement of a double stage switch mode AC voltage regulator

    , Article 2012 3rd Power Electronics and Drive Systems Technology, PEDSTC 2012, 15 February 2012 through 16 February 2012 ; February , 2012 , Pages 181-186 ; 9781467301114 (ISBN) Hajimoradi, M. R ; Karimi, E ; Mokhtari, H ; Yazdian, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Widespread use of sensitive loads in industries has required the need for high efficiency voltage regulators in order to provide continuous and fast dynamic adjustable AC voltage. This paper introduces a new control strategy to improve the response time and performance of a double stage switch mode regulator. The proposed strategy responds to input voltage variations quickly and improves the efficiency and performance of the circuit. Results of some simulations are presented and analyzed. Experimental tests on a laboratory prototype verify the excellent performance of the proposed system

A well-dispersed Pt/Ni/TiO 2 nanotubes modified electrode as an amperometric non-enzymatic glucose biosensor

    , Article Sensor Letters ; Volume 9, Issue 5 , October , 2011 , Pages 1598-1605 ; 1546198X (ISSN) Mahshid, S. S ; Luo, S ; Yang, L ; Mahshid, S ; Dolati, A ; Ghorbani, M ; Cai, Q ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study a novel Pt/Ni nanostructure consisting of nano-bushes and nanocubes was fabricated onto TiO 2 nanotubes. The scanning electron microscopy images showed that a large amount of well-dispersed nano-architectures had uniformly covered all over the surface which made an electrode with high surface area. It was obviously seen that the nanocube structures mainly consists of Ni had been grown on top of each other while the Pt colonies represented bush-like structures. As a non-enzymatic glucose biosensor, the Pt/Ni TiO 2 nanotubes modified electrode exhibited an excellent performance. The proposed biosensor had two linear ranges for detection of glucose from 0 to 0.12 mM (correlation...

A new neural network based FOPID controller

    , Article 2008 IEEE International Conference on Networking, Sensing and Control, ICNSC, Sanya, 6 April 2008 through 8 April 2008 ; 2008 , Pages 762-767 ; 9781424416851 (ISBN) Sadati, N ; Ghaffarkhah, A ; Ostadabbas, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Fractional order PID controllers are suitable for almost all types of dynamic models. In this paper, a new adaptive fractional order PID controller using neural networks is introduced. The overall performance using the proposed adaptive fractional order PID controller is demonstrated through some examples. It is shown that the new controller scheme can give excellent performance and more robustness in comparison with the conventional controllers like GPC

Artificial neural network based implementation of space vector modulation for voltage fed inverter induction motor drive

    , Article IECON 2006 - 32nd Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics, Paris, 6 November 2006 through 10 November 2006 ; 2006 , Pages 4410-4414 ; 1424401364 (ISBN); 9781424401369 (ISBN) Sadati, N ; Barati, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, a neural network based implementation of space vector modulation (SVM) of a two-level voltage fed Inverter is proposed. This network has the advantage of very fast implementation of SVM algorithm, particularly when a dedicated application- specific IC chip is used Instead of a digital signal processor (DSP). The proposed neural network consists of several subnets, a counter and a logic circuit. Subnets are used to Implement the stages of SVM algorithm while the counter is used to apply the switching state vectors in their specified times to Inverter. The logic circuit generates the Inverter switches commands according to the outputs of the subnets. The scheme has been...
