    Abstract
Topological orders have been intrinsically identified in a class of systems such as fractional quantum Hall states and spin liquids. Accessing such states often requires extreme conditions such as low temperatures, high magnetic fields, pure samples, etc. Another approach would be to engineer the topological orders in systems with more accessible ingredients. In this work, we present networks of Majorana bound states, which are currently accessible in semiconductor nanowires proximitized to conventional superconductors, and show that the effective low-energy theory is topologically ordered. We first demonstrate the main principles in a lattice made of Kitaev superconducting chains comprising...

    Abstract
Waves encountering can cause significant ship motions and affect the photovoltaic power generation capacity in All-Electric Ships (AES) during extreme conditions. In this paper, a comprehensive strategy is proposed to examine the impact of modern vessels' movements on the PV system output and the ship power quality during various operating scenarios. The proposed theoretical model-based technique determines ship angles in a wave collision and assesses sun-related angles concerning the vessel motions. Based on the panel angles, the solar irradiance and the PV system power variations can be derived. The developed method can simultaneously evaluate the effect of ship motions on the photovoltaic...

A numerical and experimental investigation of the effects of flow ratio on the flow and performance characteristics of a twin entry radial turbine

    , Article Proceedings of the ASME Turbo Expo, 6 June 2011 through 10 June 2011 ; Volume 7, Issue PARTS A, B, AND C , 2011 , Pages 2139-2153 ; 9780791854679 (ISBN) Shahhosseini, M. R ; Hajilouy Benisi, A ; Rajabian, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, a numerical and experimental investigation of the performance and internal flow field characteristics of the twin-entry radial inflow turbine under full and partial admission conditions are presented. The turbine is tested on a turbocharger test facility which was developed for small and medium size turbochargers. The flow pattern in the volute and impeller of a twin-entry turbine is analyzed using a fully three-dimensional viscous program. The computational performance results are compared with the experimental results, and good agreement is found. The flow field at the outlet of the turbine is investigated using a five-hole pressure probe. Numerical and experimental results...

Flow and performance characteristics of twin-entry radial turbine under full and extreme partial admission conditions

    , Article Archive of Applied Mechanics ; Volume 79, Issue 12 , 2009 , Pages 1127-1143 ; 09391533 (ISSN) Hajilouy Benisi, A ; Rad, M ; Shahhosseini, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper presents numerical and experimental investigation of the performance and internal flow field characteristics of twin-entry radial inflow turbines at full and extreme partial admission conditions. The turbine is tested on a turbocharger test facility, which was developed for small and medium size turbochargers. Experimental results show that the lowest efficiency corresponds to extreme conditions. Therefore, flow field analyzing is employed to consider these conditions. The flow pattern in the volute and impeller of a twin-entry turbine is analyzed using an in-house fully three-dimensional viscous flow solver. The computational performance results are compared with the experimental...
