    Abstract
Resistive pulse sensing (RPS) has proved to be a viable method for the detection and characterization of micro and nano particles. Modern fabrication methods have introduced different nanopore geometries for resistive pulse sensors. In this paper, we have numerically studied the effects of membrane thickness and the pore's cone angle, as the main geometrical parameters, on the sensing performance of the nanopores used for nanoparticle detection in the resistive pulse sensing method. To compare the sensing performance, three resistive pulse quality parameters were investigated-sensitivity, pulse duration and pulse amplitude. The thorough investigation on the relations between the geometrical...

Low cost flexible pressure sensor using laser scribed GO/RGO periodic structure for electronic skin applications

    Abstract
Considering electronic skin applications, a pressure sensor based on periodic structure of graphene oxide-reduced graphene oxide (GO-rGO) has been designed and fabricated based on a low cost direct laser writing technique by utilizing the laser diode of DVD drive's pickup head. The optimization of sensor structure has been performed using computational modelling through Finite Element Method (FEM) in the COMSOL environment. The optimized structure is fabricated based on the deposition of thin layer of GO on the surface of Kapton and the pattering is performed by laser irradiation. The fabricated sensor structure has been characterized structurally and functionally. The results show that the...

Fabrication of Thin Layers Semiconductor Based on CTS

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jalali Chamani, Hesam (Author) ; Mahdavi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Copper-based semiconductors have received a great deal of attention due to their high absorption coefficient, direct and adjustable energy gap with stoichiometry, low frequency and toxicity. Multicomponent nanocrystals such as CuInS2, Cu (In, Ga) (S, Se) 2, Cu2ZnSnS4 and Cu2SnS3 (CTS) have been successfully synthesized by colloidal synthesis and have shown application potentials such as energy conversion, photocatalyst, thermoelectric and biomedical. Among these, the CTS ternary semiconductor with p-type conduction is one of the most well-known compounds of group I-IV-VI, which consists of abundant and non-toxic elements. In this research, thin-film solar cells with FTO / TiO2 / In2S3 / CdS...

A tool for designing tree-like concentration gradient generators for lab-on-a-chip applications

    , Article Chemical Engineering Science ; Volume 212 , 2020 Ebadi, M ; Moshksayan, K ; Kashaninejad, N ; Saidi, M. S ; Nguyen, N. T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Concentration gradient generators (CGGs) help biologists to perform large scale, fast and high-throughput experiments. This paper introduces a design tool called Tree-like Concentration gradient generator Design Tool (TCDT). The performance of this tool is validated both numerically and experimentally. Three CGGs were fabricated using three different fabrication methods and design parameters. The performance of these devices was examined using the measurement of fluorescent and dye intensity. The performance of the design tool for non-linear and multi-drug concentration gradient generations was investigated as well. In addition, a method was developed to investigate the multi-drug...

Construction of 3D fibrous PCL scaffolds by coaxial electrospinning for protein delivery

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering C ; Volume 113 , 2020 Rafiei, M ; Jooybar, E ; Abdekhodaie, M. J ; Alvi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
In this study, a three-dimensional tablet-like porous scaffold, comprising core-shell fibers to host proteins inside the core, was developed. The fabrication method involved the novel combination of coaxial and wet electrospinning in a single setting. Poly (ε-caprolactone) was chosen as the based polymer and bovine serum albumin was used as a model protein. These 3D tablet-like scaffolds exhibited adequate porosity and suitable pore size for cell culture and cell infiltration, in addition to appropriate mechanical properties for cartilage tissue engineering. The effects of different parameters on the behavior of the system have been studied and the 3D scaffold based on the core-shell fiber...

Characterization of a transition-edge bolometer made of YBCO thin films prepared by nonfluorine metal-organic deposition

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity ; Volume 21, Issue 6 , 2011 , Pages 3587-3591 ; 10518223 (ISSN) Hosseini, M ; Moftakharzadeh, A ; Kokabi, A ; Vesaghi, M. A ; Kinder, H ; Fardmanesh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
We present the results of a bolometric transition-edge sensor made of a high-Tc superconductor YBCO thin film prepared by fluorine-free metal-organic deposition. The structure of the films was characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, and the superconducting properties were determined by R-T measurements. The applicability of the resulting film as an infrared sensor is reported here. The optical response in the range of near infrared and the noise characteristics of the patterned bolometer are measured and analyzed. The dependence of device sensitivity on the bias current and modulation frequency is also investigated. As it is presented in this paper, the results...

    Abstract
Chitosan is a natural polymer with acceptable biocompatibility, biodegradability, and mechanical stability; hence, it has been widely appraised for drug and gene delivery applications. However, there has been no comprehensive assessment to tailor-make chitosan cross-linkers of various types and functionalities as well as complex chitosan-based semi- and full-interpenetrating networks for drug delivery systems (DDSs). Herein, various fabrication methods developed for chitosan hydrogels are deliberated, including chitosan crosslinking with and without diverse cross-linkers. Tripolyphosphate, genipin and multi-functional aldehydes, carboxylic acids, and epoxides are common cross-linkers used in...
