    Abstract
Modeling of fermentation processes is so complicated and uncertain; therefore it is necessary to provide a robust and appropriate dynamic optimization method. In order to obtain the maximum amount of yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), the bioreactor must be operated under optimal conditions. To determine substrate feeding in a fed-batch bioreactor, a simulated annealing (SA) approach was examined. The optimal glucose feed rate profiles were computed by a stochastic and deterministic problems for various initial conditions to investigate their effects on optimal operation of the fed-batch bioreactor. Results declared a proper capability of SA method for determination of optimal feeding...

    Abstract
Chinese hamster ovary cells are the main cellular factories for production of a wide range of recombinant proteins in biopharmaceutical industry. Recombinant human Interferon beta-1a (rh-IFN β-1a), as a cytokine is broadly used to treat multiple sclerosis. In this work, the cell line producing rh-IFN β-1a was studied to improve cell density along with the specific expression. For this reason different cell culture experiments were done using different commercial serum-free media to find the appropriate media providing higher cell density. It was shown DMEMF12, DMEM:ProCHO5, and CHO-S-SFM II led to higher cell density and shorter doubling time. Next, using these media, fed-batch, and...

Modeling and Simulation of Alcoholic Fermentation of Sugarcane Blackstrap Molasses

    Abstract
Fed-batch fermentation is a valuable and cost-effective method for bio-based production of various products such as ethanol, which has various applications in various industries. In recent years, bioethanol production has been given special attention in many countries. For this reason, the mathematical modeling of production of these products is very important for their optimal and cost-effective production. Given the transient and dynamic nature of fermentation and its specific complexity, mathematical modeling of fed-batch bioreactors is difficult and complicated. In this research, an unstructured model was used to predict the production of ethanol from blackstrap sugar cane molasses based...

Simulation of Optimum Nutrition in Bioreactors

    Abstract
In this study, a semi-structured model for the growth and production of lactase in an aerated bioreactor by Kluyveromyces marxianus, growing on cheese whey, was developed. Three modes of culture, consisting of batch, fed-batch and a controlled-release system were investigated. Modeling was based on three metabolic pathways, representing the growth of Kluyveromyces marxianus. Lactose and oxygen consumption, cell growth, and also lactase and ethanol production rates were determined in the model. Induction was considered as the governing mechanism for enzyme production. The model showed good agreement with the experimental data in batch and fed-batch cultures. Controlled-release system is a...

    Abstract
In current study, a meta-analysis approach was used to identify and evaluate the impact of various factors on the performance of integrated systems of anaerobic digestion with microbial electrolysis cell. In this study, related articles on the topic were systematically identified and collected according to the considered criteria, and the effect size that refers to the value of the difference between variables mean (total chemical oxygen demand (TCOD) removal rate and CH4 yield) was estimated. According to the meta-analysis, fed-batch operation mode, the range of 20< temperature ≤30 °C, metal cathodes, the range of 500< anode surface area ≤5000 cm2, HRT (hydraulic retention time) >20 days,...
