Recovering quantum information through partial access to the environment

    Abstract
We investigate the possibility of correcting errors occurring on a multipartite system through a feedback mechanism that acquires information through partial access to the environment. A partial control scheme of this type might be useful in dealing with correlated errors. In fact, in such a case, it could be enough to gather local information to decide what kind of global recovery to perform. Then, we apply this scheme to the depolarizing and correlated errors and quantify its performance by means of entanglement fidelity

    Abstract
The temporal and spatial evolution of the two counter-propagating laser waves inside the active medium of a gain coupled distributed feedback dye laser is studied via a dynamic model. More specifically, the feedback mechanism, the temporal and spatial evolution of laser waves, the interaction between them, and the effect of pump pulse characteristics on the feedback strength are explained. It is shown that a pumping configuration with a spatial Gaussian pattern strongly decreases the laser pulse energy. This has never proposed or described by other models in the literature. For a narrow Gaussian pump pulse, the distributed feedback lasing on both sides of the active medium vanishes and...

Mathematical modeling of dermal wound healing: A numerical solution

    , Article 2010 The 2nd International Conference on Computer and Automation Engineering, ICCAE 2010, 26 February 2010 through 28 February 2010, Singapore ; Volume 2 , 2010 , Pages 153-156 ; 9781424455850 (ISBN) Azizi, A ; Ghaemi Osgouie, K ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Though wound healing process is well-researched, this area is poorly known. One reason is that all interactions have not been discovered, the main reason, though, is that the involved processes interact in a very complicated manner with nonlinear feedback. Such complex feedback mechanisms can be easily addressed by mathematical modeling. This paper contains a review of the mathematical modeling of cell interaction with extracellular matrix components during the process of dermal wound healing with focusing on remodeling phase. The models are of partial differential equation type and solved by numerical method

Low voltage low noise open loop automatic amplitude control for voltage-controlled oscillators

    , Article Analog Integrated Circuits and Signal Processing ; Volume 62, Issue 3 , 2010 , Pages 319-325 ; 09251030 (ISSN) Kiani, M ; Sharif Bakhtiar, M ; Atarodi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper presents a low voltage low noise open loop automatic amplitude control method for voltage-controlled oscillators (VCO's). In this method a feedback mechanism keeps the VCO at its optimum amplitude over temperature and process variations and then the loop is broken to avoid noise injection form the control circuitry to the VCO. The loop does not add extra noise to the VCO. Based on the proposed method, a low voltage low noise LC-VCO was designed for a low phase noise application in TSMC 0.18 micron RFCMOS technology. Simulations show considerable improvement in the phase noise with the application of the proposed method

Designing optimal controllers for nonlinear frames by considering the effect of response feedback

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 18, Issue 6 , 2011 , Pages 1170-1178 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Joghataie, A ; Mohebbi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The effect of response feedback on designing optimal controllers for nonlinear frames has been studied. Different combinations of response feedback have been used in the performance index. The Newmark based nonlinear instantaneous optimal control algorithm has been used as the control algorithm in controlling the response of an eight-story bilinear hysteretic frame subjected to white noise excitation and real earthquakes, and controlled by either eight actuators or a single actuator. While the objective has been to minimize the maximum control force for reducing the maximum drift to below the yielding level, the distributed genetic algorithm (DGA) has been used to determine the proper set of...

Pressure-transient analysis of bottomhole pressure and rate measurements by use of system-identification techniques

    Abstract
This study presents a novel perspective on pressure-transient analysis (PTA) of downhole-pressure and flow-rate data by use of system-identification (SI) techniques as widely used in advanced process engineering. Key features of the paper are that it considers the classic PTA process from a system-theoretical perspective; derives the causal structure of the flow dynamics; proposes a method to deal with continuously varying pressure and flow-rate signals contaminated with correlated noise, which estimates physical reservoir parameters through a systematic matching procedure in the frequency domain; and can cope with arbitrary (i.e., not necessarily piecewise constant) flow-rate signals. To...

Design and comparison of quasi continuous sliding mode control with feedback linearization for a large scale wind turbine with wind speed estimation

    , Article Renewable Energy ; Volume 127 , 2018 , Pages 495-508 ; 09601481 (ISSN) Golnary, F ; Moradi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, dynamic modelling and control of WindPACT 1.5 MW wind turbine in Region 2 for extracting the maximum energy from wind is investigated (where the wind velocity is greater than ‘cut in’ and below ‘rated’ wind speeds). In this region, the generator torque must regulate the rotor speed in its optimal value while the blade pitch angle is considered constant in its optimal value. To achieve a more accurate model, wind turbine is modeled as an electromechanical system with two masses dynamics. A new method based on adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is considered for wind speed estimation; where rotor speed, output power and pitch angle are inputs of such system and...

Backlash nonlinearity modeling and adaptive controller design for an electromechanical power transmission system

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 16, Issue 6 B , 2009 , Pages 463-469 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Kalantari, R ; Saadat Foomani, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Nonlinearity characteristics, such as backlash, in various mechanisms, limit the performance of feedback systems by causing delays, undesired oscillations and inaccuracy. Backlash influence analysis and modeling is necessary to design a precision controller for this nonlinearity. Backlash between meshing gears in an electromechanical system is modeled by the use of differential equations and a nonlinear spring-damper. According to this model, the paper shows that oscillations and delays cannot be compensated by a state feedback controller. Therefore, an adaptive algorithm is designed, based on different regions of the system angular position error. Since this controller needs an estimation...
