Biosorption of Zinc Ions Using Biomasses Produced From Four Different Types of Microbes Under Batch and Continuous Conditions

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Soheil (Author) ; Roostaazad, Reza (Supervisor) ; Razavi, Jalil (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Biosorption capacity of zinc (II) by biomasses produced from four species of microorganism including two kinds of bacteria (Pseudomonas putida and Streptomyces rimosus) and two kinds of fungi ( Aspergillus niger and Phanerochate chrysosporium) in batch case were investigated and compared. In all cases dried original bio mass and dried pretreated bio mass with NaOH were used. In all cases biosorption capacity of pretreated biomasses were much higher than non-treated biuomasses to the ratio of 3.8 – 1.4 times. Freundlich and Langmuir equilibrium isotherms were used to match with experimental results of this research. Except S.rimosus, all others were completely matched with Langmuir...

Characterization of Sulfur Protective Catalyst and Simulation of the Process of Removing Sulfur from Naphtha Product

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yousefi, Ardavan (Author) ; Baghalha, Morteza (Supervisor) ; Kazemini, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Because of the importance of purification units at the refineries, in this research the process of sulfur removing compounds from light naphtha product with 1 ppm concentration by adsorption method in a fixed bed tower was simulated by COMSOL Multiphysics software. In this work, simulation was done using two macro and micro perspectives. In the Macro-scale mass transfer takes place between the spherical particles of catalyst and in the micro-scale mass transfer takes place within the spherical particles and these two scales were coupled together by reaction rate variable. In Macro-scale one-dimensional and two-dimensional geometry were considered for model. Naturally, the result of the...

Converting the Organic Constituents of the Li-ion Batteries to Added-value Species with the Possibility of Removing the Environmental Pollutants

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moosavi Shahabi, Mohamad Ali (Author) ; Fotovat, Farzam (Supervisor)
    Abstract
During the last few years, the number of electric devices using lithium-ion batteries as a source of energy has increased drastically. The lifespan of these batteries is very short (2-3 years) and according to the statistics only 25% of which is recycled. However, considering the variety of materials used in these batteries, recycling them can be highly gainful. One of the technical challenges in the way of recycling Li-ion batteries is the presence of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), that besides raising issues during recycling processes causes the production of toxic fluorine or hydrogen fluoride effluents. The second issue is the presence of metals with high oxidation states in these...
