    , Article Electroanalysis ; Volume 24, Issue 3 , 2012 , Pages 618-626 ; 10400397 (ISSN) Fernandes, I. P. G ; Oliveira, S. C. B ; Ghalkhani, M ; Shahrokhian, S ; Oliveira Brett, A. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The electrochemical behavior of antioxidants daidzein (DZ) and 7-hydroxy-4-chromone (7-OH-4-CHM) was investigated. The oxidation of DZ is irreversible, pH-dependent, and occurs in two steps, the first of 4′-OH on the B-ring and the second on the 7-OH on the A-ring. The oxidation of 7-OH-4-CHM occurs on the 7-OH on the A-ring, is irreversible, pH-dependent and proceeds in a single step. The DZ diffusion coefficient was calculated in pH7.0 phosphate buffer to be D DZ=8.1×10 -5cm 2s -1. The detection limits of DZ and 7-OH-4-CHM was calculated as LOD DZ=0.08μM and LOD 7-OH-4-CHM=0.13μM

    Abstract
Stachys species have played crucial role as a folk-medicinal plants since so many years ago. According to their commercial interest in the production of essential oils and flavoring agents, investigation through their secondary metabolisms still has been done. In the first part of this research, we have done our phytochemical investigation of Stachys inflata. The aerial parts of this plant have been collected; we could isolate and identify 5 molecules. Their structural elucidation was accomplished by extensive spectroscopic methods including 1H NMR, 13C NMR and 13C Dept experiments. In the second part of the research, we have reported a new and efficient synthesis of a broad spectrum of...

    Abstract
Antioxidants are compounds with anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-aging and anti-allergic properties. In the present study, a quantum mechanical approach has been used to shed light on the presence effect of glycoside group on the antioxidant ability of chrysin as one of the most important consumable flavonoids and two glycoside derivatives, chrysin-6-C-fucopyranoside and chrysin-3-malonyl-6-C-fucopyranoside which has electron-withdrawing group (EWG) in its C3 of glycoside group. Density functional theory (DFT) using B3LYP and UB3LYP functional and split-valance 6-311++G ** basis set were used to optimize chrysin, its different derivatives, and their radicals. Analysis of...

    Abstract
Easily assembled and biocompatible chitosan/hyaluronic acid nanoparticles with multiple stimuli-responsive ability are ideally suited for efficient delivery of therapeutic agents under specific endogenous triggers. We report a simple and versatile strategy to formulate oxidative stress and pH-responsive chitosan/hyaluronic acid nanocarriers with high encapsulation efficiencies of small drug molecules and nerve growth factor protein. This is achieved through invoking the dual role of a thioketal-based weak organic acid to disperse and functionalize low molecular weight chitosan in one-pot. Thioketal embedded chitosan/hyaluronic acid nanostructures respond to oxidative stress and show...

A lupane triterpenoid and other constituents of Salvia eremophila

    , Article Natural Product Research ; Volume 26, Issue 21 , 2012 , Pages 2045-2049 ; 14786419 (ISSN) Farimani, M. M ; Moghaddam, F. M ; Esmaeili, M. A ; Amin, G ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Phytochemical investigation of the aerial parts of Salvia eremophila led to the isolation of a lupane triterpenoid, 3β, 20-dihydroxylupane-28-oic acid (1), together with eight other compounds, comprising three diterpene, two triterpene, two flavonoids and a steroidal glucoside. Their structures were elucidated by interpretation of their one-dimensional and two-dimensional NMR spectra and completed by the analysis of the HRESIMS data. Compounds 1, 2-4 and 8 were evaluated for their cytotoxicities against five human tumour cell lines. Compounds 1 and 3 hold a good potential for use in future studies due to their anti-cancer properties

Optimization and characterization of tannic acid loaded niosomes for enhanced antibacterial and anti-biofilm activities

    , Article Advanced Powder Technology ; 2020 Heidari, F ; Akbarzadeh, I ; Nourouzian, D ; Mirzaie, A ; Bakhshandeh, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2020
    Abstract
The purpose of this study was to prepare and characterize an optimized system of tannic acid-loaded niosomes as a potential carrier for antibacterial and anti-biofilm delivery. The niosomal formulation was optimized using response surface methodology (RSM). The effects of the molar ratio of surfactant to cholesterol, drug concentration, and molar ratio of Span 60 to Tween 60 on particle size and drug entrapment efficiency of the niosomal nanocarrier were studied. The optimized nanoparticles were characterized in terms of the morphology, in vitro release profile, and antibacterial properties. Moreover, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)...

    Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the phytochemical profile of methanol extract of Ephedra foeminea and assess its anti-carcer effect on a large set of normal and cancerous cell lines Methods: Extraction of air-dried powder of aerial parts of E. foeminea was carried out with methanol. The bioactive compounds in the extract were determined using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The anti-cancer effect of the extract was determined by 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay against various types of normal and cancer cell lines. Serial concentrations of plant extract were used, ranging from 7.812 to1000 μg/mL. Doxorubicin (DOX) served as standard drug. The...

    Abstract
In the present study, a magnetic core-shell metal-organic framework (Fe3O4@PAA@UiO-66-NH2) nanocomposite was synthesized by a facile step-by-step self-assembly technique and used for selective adsorption of the anti-cancer Quercetin (QCT) drug. The synthesized nanocomposite was well characterized using FTIR, XRD, BET, FESEM, and TEM techniques. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms of the magnetic nanocomposites for QCT were investigated in detail at different initial concentrations and temperatures. It was found that the experimental adsorption kinetic and isotherm data were precisely explained by the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models. Moreover, the selective...
