Design and analysis of a novel two DOF thermal micromanipulator

    , Article 2011 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics, ICM 2011 - Proceedings ; 2011 , pp. 654-659 ; ISBN: 9781612849836 Pourzand, H ; Ghaemi, R ; Alasty, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, a novel thermal microactuator is designed which is capable of producing bi-directional lateral and rotational output and one of its applications as a two DOF micromanipulator is shown. Also, by carefully choosing the doping level, temperature distribution is determined by considering the dependency of silicon's resistivity and conductivity to temperature. Using variable separation method an equation in terms of elliptic integrals is reached and after imposing boundary conditions the exact temperature distribution is obtained numerically. Currents at each branch is updated due to the last temperature distribution and this process is repeated several times until the final...

    Abstract
With the aim of extending the use of integrated variational principles on fluid and deck plate to the large deflection analysis of floating roofs, this paper investigates the significance of the flexural and membrane components in the formulations of the deck plate. Applying integrated variational principles on deck plate and fluid facilitate the treatment of the compatibility of deformation between floating roof and supporting liquid. Analysis results showed that different assumptions about deck plate formulation were commonly used in the literature which resulted in considerably different deflection and stress patterns on the floating roof. The results showed that modeling of the deck...

    Abstract
Braces are one of the retrofitting systems of structure under earthquake loading. Buckling restrained braces (BRBs) are one of the very efficient braces for lateral loads. One of the key needs for a desirable and acceptable behavior of buckling-restraining brace members under intensive loading is that it prevents total buckling until the bracing member tolerates enough plastic deformation and ductility. This paper presents the results of a set of analysis by finite element method on buckling restrained braces in which the filler materials within the restraining member have been removed. These braces contain core as the conventional BRBs, but they have a different buckling restrained system....
