    Abstract
    An extensive experimental investigation to study the flow structure over the wing of a fighter type configuration model has been conducted. The model used for this study was similar to the High Alpha Research Vehicle (HARV) that has been used in various European research centers for studying its force and moment characteristics. Tests were conducted at two subsonic speeds and at low to moderate angle of attack. The wing surface pressure distribution and velocity profiles at various angles of attack were measured.     Abstract
    Flows generated by density differences are called gravity or density currents which are generic features of many environmental flows. These currents are classified as the conservative and non-conservative flows whether the buoyancy flux is conserved or changed respectively. In this paper, a low Reynolds k-ε turbulence model is used to simulate three dimensional density and turbidity currents. Also, a series of experiments were conducted in a straight channel to study the characteristics of the non-conservative density current. In experiments, Kaolin was used as the suspended material.     Abstract
    A rectangular labyrinth weir has a very good flood release capacity as well as strong economical and structural advantages. In this study, combined analytical and experimental investigations were undertaken for a rectangular labyrinth weir. The analytical model is based on the synthesis of general weir equations and spatially varied flow dynamic equations. A comprehensive set of experiments led to characterisation of the flow behaviour for low and high heads over the weir and indicated the influences of weir geometry on the release capacity.     We present a novel unstructured coarse grid generation technique based on vorticity for upscaling two-phase flow in permeable media. In the technique, the fineness of the gridblocks throughout the domain is determined by vorticity distribution such that where the larger is the vorticity at a region, the finer are the gridblocks at that region. Vorticity is obtained from single-phase flow on original fine grid, and is utilized to generate a background grid which stores spacing parameter, and is used to steer generation of triangular and finally Voronoi grids.     This study was conducted to investigate the flow structures of turbulent flow passing over a short finite cylinder in which a rigid flag is attached to the rear of the cylinder, in wake region. The length-to-diameter ratio of the cylinder was chosen to be L/D = 2, whereas the rigid flag had a width-to-diameter ratio of W/D = 1.5. Wall-adapted large-eddy simulation (LES-WALE) was used to resolve unsteady turbulent flow structures. The far field Reynolds number based on cylinder diameter was chosen to be 20,000.     A CFD code has been developed to describe the salt solution density current, which propagates three-dimensionally in deep ambient water. The height and width of the dense layer are two dominated length scales in a 3-D structure of the density current. In experimental efforts, it is common to measure the height and width of this current via its brightness. Although there are analytical relations to calculate the current height in a two-dimensional flow, these relations cannot be used to identify the width and height of a 3-D density current, due to the existence of two unknown parameters.     The present study provides a comparison between the flow pattern around two circular piers in tandem and a single pier set up on a moderately rough flat bed in a laboratory flume. Velocities are measured by an Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV). The contours of the time-averaged velocity components, Reynolds shear stresses, turbulence intensities and turbulence kinetic energy at different planes are presented.     The structure of turbidity currents released on a sloping bed below fresh water is investigated. Kaolin is used as a suspended material. Laboratory observations indicate that if a dense layer moves through the channel, the current thickness increases due to a hydraulic jump. This phenomenon occurs under special inlet conditions and has a significant effect on the current structure including velocity profile, current height and bed shear stress.     The effect of an intermediate standing baffle on the flow structure in a rectangular open channel has been investigated by a three-dimensional acoustic Doppler velocimeter. Investigation of time-averaged velocity profiles at different streamwise positions reveals that the approach flow is fully developed upstream of the baffle. By analysing the space-averaged power spectra of streamwise velocity, a peak structure was observed in the upstream baffle region. Downstream of the baffle this peak structure has been alleviated by the baffle.     In this paper, a new method is proposed for the identification of inelastic shear frame structures with hysteresis, using data collected on their dynamic response. It uses the Prandtl-Ishlinskii rate independent model for hysteresis. The proposed identification method is capable of identifying the mass, damping and restoring force of a frame structure, which can be used in forming the equations of motion of the frame.     The dynamics of a two dimensional plane jet injected at the base of a step, parallel to the wall, in backward facing step flow geometry is numerically studied. The objective of this work is to gain insight into the dynamics of the igniter flow field in solid fuel ramjet motors. Solid fuel ramjets operate by ingestion of air and subsequent combustion with a solid fuel grain such as polyethylene.
