    Abstract
The aim of this study is to assess the influence of oxygen-to-steam ratio, wall boundary conditions, coal feeding rate, and static bed height on the concentrations, heating values, and efficiencies of the product gas in a tapered fluidized bed reactor. Results show that lower and higher heating values slightly vary with increasing the oxygen-to-steam ratio in the range of 0.25–0.35. It is found that cold gas efficiency and carbon conversion efficiency goes up with increased ratio of oxygen to steam; however, both efficiencies decline as a result of increasing the coal feeding rate. As static bed height rises, lower and higher heating values diminish for tapered angle of 5°. For tapered angle...

    Abstract
In this research, a mathematical model to simulate a two-phase fluidized bed reactor for oxidative dehydrogenation of propane to propylene was developed. The developed model was solved numerically using the matlab software. Moreover, effects of the reaction temperature, operating pressure, feed composition, particle's size and gas superficial velocity on the reactant conversion, product selectivity and desired product's yield were understudied. The model was validated using previously published experimental data for simulation of the case at the exit of the circulating fluidized bed reactor. The results revealed that, as the temperature raised from 783 to 823 K, the propane conversion...

    , Article Chemical Engineering and Technology ; Vol. 37, Issue. 12 , December , 2014 , PP. 2096-2102 ; ISSN: 09307516 Movahedirad, S ; Dehkordi, A. M ; Molaei, E. A ; Haghi, M ; Banaei, M ; Kuipers, J. A. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Bubble splitting in 2D gas-solid freely bubbling fluidized beds is experimentally investigated using digital image analysis. The quantitative results can be applied for the development of a new breakage model for bubbly fluidized beds, especially discrete bubble models. The variation of splitting frequency with bubble diameter, new resulting bubble volumes, positions, and also the assumptions of mass and momentum conservation for bubbles after breakage are studied in detail. Small bubbles are found to be more stable than large ones and nearly all mother bubbles split into two almost equally sized daughter bubbles. The momentum of gas bubbles in the vertical direction remains approximately...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology khosrokiani, Elahe (Author) ; Halali, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study effect of air flow rate, particle size and oxygen excess on roasting of copper concentrate in a fluidized bed reactor were investigated. Copper concentrate in this work was from sarcheshme copper mine. For determination of the weight percentage of remaining sulfur, calcins were analyzed by XRD. The effect of air flow rate was studied at 211,250 and 312 lit/min. The results indicate that an increase in air flow rate led to a decrease in amount of sulfur in the calcin. For study the effect of oxygen excess roasting were done with 20,21 and 23 volume percent of oxygen and the results were the same as the effect of air flow rate. For study the effect of particle size, roasting were...

Hydrodynamic Investigation of Tapered Fluidized Beds in the Presence of Jet

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ebrahimi, Behzad (Author) ; Molaei Dehkordi, Asghar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Numerous experimental and modeling efforts have been paid done to investigate the behavior of gas-solid fluidized beds. Existence of a velocity gradient in the axial direction in tapered fluidized beds causes unique dynamic characteristics of this type of beds relative to cylindrical fluidized beds. Because of these characteristics, fluidized beds with inclined walls have found wide applications in industrial processes. Gas bubbles play an important role in the hydrodynamics of bubbling gas-solid fluidized beds; so, fundamental understanding of the bubbling behavior of fluidized beds is required to describe bubble-related phenomena such as solids mixing, segregation, reaction conversion,...

    Abstract
Drying of green peas in a Fluidized Bed Dryer (FBD) with inert particle, heated by combined sources of hot air and InfraRed (IR) radiation, has been experimentally and theoretically studied. For this purpose, an experimental set up was constructed. This setup was composed of a cylindrical bed dryer containing some inert particles which are fluidized by hot air. Some infrared lamps were also placed around the bed for heating assistance. A sample of green pea was hung in the fluidized bed and its moisture content, surface and central temperature were measured with time. A mathematical model, based on the two layers concept of penetration and conduction was also proposed for this process. The...

Novel phenomenological discrete bubble model of freely bubbling dense gas-solid fluidized beds: Application to two-dimensional beds

    , Article AIChE Journal ; Volume 58, Issue 11 , January , 2012 , Pages 3306-3317 ; 00011541 (ISSN) Movahedirad, S ; Molaei Dehkordi, A ; Deen, N. G ; van Sint Annaland, M ; Kuipers, J. A. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
A phenomenological discrete bubble model has been developed for freely bubbling dense gas-solid fluidized beds and validated for a pseudo-two-dimensional fluidized bed. In this model, bubbles are treated as distinct elements and their trajectories are tracked by integrating Newton's equation of motion. The effect of bubble-bubble interactions was taken into account via a modification of the bubble velocity. The emulsion phase velocity was obtained as a superposition of the motion induced by individual bubbles, taking into account bubble-bubble interaction. This novel model predicts the bubble size evolution and the pattern of emulsion phase circulation satisfactorily. Moreover, the effects...

    , Article World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology ; Volume 77 , 2011 , Pages 411-415 ; 2010376X (ISSN) Golestani, F ; Kazemeini, M ; Fattahi, M ; Amjadia, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this research a mathematical model for direct oxidization of hydrogen sulfide into elemental sulfur in a fluidized bed reactor with external circulation was developed. As the catalyst is deactivated in the fluidized bed, it might be placed in a reduction tank in order to remove sulfur through heating above its dew point. The reactor model demonstrated via MATLAB software. It was shown that variations of H 2S conversion as well as; products formed were reasonable in comparison with corresponding results of a fixed bed reactor. Through analyzing results of this model, it became possible to propose the main optimized operating conditions for the process considered. These conditions included;...

    Abstract
Polymer quality control in an industrial scale polyethylene fluidized bed reactor has been addressed. Since online measurements of polymer properties (melt index and density) are not available, they must be controlled indirectly via other available measurements. In the present paper, two algebraic equations correlating polyethylene melt index and density with the measureable concentrations of chemical components are obtained. Having the desired polyethylene properties and using these correlations, desired concentrations of chemical components are calculated and used via corresponding control loops. By using the infrequently available polyethylene property measurements, the correlation...

    , Article Energy ; Volume 191 , 2020 Askaripour, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
This article presents a two-dimensional simulation of the coal gasification in tapered fluidized bed gasifier. The effects of tapered angle, gasifier temperature, velocity of gasifying agent, and steam-to-air ratio on the gas compositions, lower heating value (LHV), and higher heating value (HHV) were examined. In order to find the appropriate operating conditions of coal gasification, carbon conversion efficiency (CCE) and cold gas efficiency (CGE) were also explored. It was found that with an increase of the gasifier temperature, CCE and CGE of the tapered gasifier diminishes. Increasing tapered angle results in a decrease of the LHV and HHV of the gas products, whereas the CCE of...

    Abstract
In present paper, dynamic behavior and control of a fluidized bed reactor for polyethylene production has been considered. A double active sites model for Ziegler-Natta catalysts is used for simulation of polymerization reaction. Hydrodynamic behavior of the bed is modeled using a two phase model including bubble and emulsion phases in which bubble phase has plug flow pattern with differentially variable velocity and size through the bed and emulsion phase has the CSTR flow pattern. The reactor model is validated using industrial data. Conventional PID controllers with anti-windup are considered for control purposes. It has been shown that the control system has satisfactory performances...

The fluidized bed membrane reactor system: a pilot scale experimental study. Chem Eng Sci 1994; 49:5833-43.] and good agreements were obtained between model predictions and corresponding experimental data. The developed model was then utilized to predict the...
