Time-resolved visual chiral discrimination of cysteine using unmodified cdte quantum dots

    , Article Scientific Reports ; Volume 7, Issue 1 , 2017 ; 20452322 (ISSN) Ghasemi, F ; Hormozi Nezhad, M. R ; Mahmoudi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Herein, we demonstrate a simple yet novel luminescence assay for visual chiral discrimination of cysteine. Thioglycolic acid (TGA)-capped cadmium-telluride (CdTe) quantum dots (QDs) exposing green emission were directly synthesized in aqueous solution. The interaction between cysteine molecules and CdTe QDs induced the aggregation of QDs via hydrogen bonding. As a result of electronic coupling within these aggregates, a redshift both in the absorption and emission spectra of QDs occured. The difference in the kinetics of the interactions between L- A nd D-cysteine with CdTe QDs led to chiral recognition of these enantiomers. Addition of D-cysteine to CdTe QDs in a basic media caused a...

A unique sensitive and highly selective fluorescent naphthodiaza-crown macrocyclic ligand chemosensor for Hg2+ in water

    , Article Journal of Fluorescence ; Volume 27, Issue 4 , 2017 , Pages 1385-1398 ; 10530509 (ISSN) Ghanbari, B ; Zarepour jevinani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer New York LLC  2017
    Abstract
The noticeable enhancement in fluorescence emission of O2N2-donor naphthodiaza-crown macrocyclic ligand (L) in the presence of Hg2+ was observed in which the fluorescence quantum yield of free ligand L as well as L/Hg2+ complex were found to be as 0.29 and 0.49, respectively. The observed ultra-low limit of detection (LOD) for Hg2+ by L was determined as low as 1.0 × 10−11 M in water. A 1:1 stoichiometry was also established for L/Hg2+ together with a binding constant KBH = 66,543 by employing fluorescence spectrophotometry. The competition experiments on L/Hg2+ demonstrated highly selective detection of Hg2+ in the presence of the library cations. A two path mechanism for detection of metal...

Synthesis of Graphene Oxide and Study of its Fluorescence Properties

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Akbari, Ebrahim (Author) ; Akhavan, Omid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Graphene oxide is a single sheet of Carbon atoms which has been arranged on a two-dimensional honeycomb lattice. Functional groups such as epoxy, carboxyl and carbonyl are located on basal plane and at the edges of graphene oxide and they localize electrons on the surface of graphene oxide and open band gap in its band structure. Pure graphene has zero band gap, so existence of fluorescence properties is unlikely; but graphene oxide has fluorescence properties due to band gap in its band structure. Fluorescence properties of graphene have been used in live cell imaging and drug delivery, so study and increasing of fluorescence properties is significantly important. The purpose of this...

    , Article Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology A: Chemistry ; Volume 314 , 2016 , Pages 42-51 ; 10106030 (ISSN) Ghanbari, B ; Zarepour Jevinani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier  2016
    Abstract
A series of N2O2-donor naphthodiaza-crown macrocyclic ligands, L1-L5, were synthesized and characterized by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry as well as microanalysis. Preliminary observations employing UV-vis spectrophotometry of L3 in ethanol revealed that triethylamine (TEA) has a significant blue-shift effect on the entire of the spectra. Then, the detection of aliphatic and aromatic amines by L3 were followed by monitoring of fluorescence quenching of the resulting adducts in terms of their binding with L1-L5. Both steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopic measurements in the...

Quick speciation of iron(II) and iron(III) in natural samples using a selective fluorescent carbon dot-based probe

    , Article Analytical Methods ; Volume 8, Issue 20 , 2016 , Pages 4064-4068 ; 17599660 (ISSN) Hormozi Nezhad, M. R ; Taghipour, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Royal Society of Chemistry  2016
    Abstract
A new, simple and rapid carbon dot (CD) based fluorescent probe for speciation of Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions was developed. The as-prepared CDs contain phenol groups on their surfaces and due to the special coordination interaction of phenol groups with Fe3+ ions, this sensing system exhibits excellent sensitivity and selectivity toward Fe3+. In order to detect Fe2+ ions as well, a specific amount of H2O2 was introduced to the detection system to transform Fe2+ to Fe3+ of which the latter is the determinable form of iron. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the fluorescence intensity of the sensor decreased as the Fe3+ ion concentration increased. The relationship plot between the...

Design of a ratiometric fluorescence nanoprobe to detect plasma levels of levodopa

    , Article Microchemical Journal ; Volume 148 , 2019 , Pages 591-596 ; 0026265X (ISSN) Moslehipour, A ; Bigdeli, A ; Ghasemi, F ; Hormozi Nezhad, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Simply obtained by the oxidation of levodopa in alkaline media, polylevodopa nanoparticles are able to quench the fluorescence emission of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) via energy transfer mechanism. The extent of this quenching can be exploited for the quantification of levodopa, as an important therapeutic agent in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. However, to effectively improve the detection performance, in this study, we have designed a ratiometric probe by making use of variations in both the emission of QDs and the intrinsic emission of polylevodopa nanoparticles. The enhanced sensitivity, in particular, arose from the measurement of the ratio of fluorescence intensities at two...

    Abstract
Tetracyclines (TCs) are a large family of broad-spectrum antibiotics with one of the highest aquatic persistence after release from humans and animals. Hence, TCs are known to generate antibiotic resistance along with estrogenic and other toxic effects in non-target organisms. Unfortunately, the detection and removal of TCs from aqueous matrices remain challenging. For this purpose, we review metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), which have emerged as effective alternatives, given their photocatalytic and adsorptive capabilities. MOFs exhibit large interactive surface area and tunable structure and pore size for fast mass transfer and strong host–guest interactions. Herein, these and other topics...

    Abstract
Analysis of microparticle size and fluorescence intensity can be used to classify microparticles. We designed and fabricated an optofluidic system that characterizes microparticles, including fluorescent microparticles and microalgae. A new type of multi-pixel photon counter (MPPC) was employed to miniaturize the device, lower its power consumption, and make it insensitive to magnetic fields. The system uses a 635 nm laser for excitation of the microparticles' fluorescence. The scattered light from the fluorescent microparticles, as well as Chlorella vulgaris and Chlorella protothecoides, were measured. Additionally, we analyzed the width and height of the measured signals generated as a...

    Abstract
In this work, graphene oxide (GO) aqueous suspensions prepared by a chemical exfoliation method showed a fluorescence peak at ∼615 nm. Photoluminescence spectroscopy determined that functionalization of the GO sheets by 3-(2-Aminoethylamino) propyltrimethoxysilane molecules significantly quench the fluorescence property of the GO sheets. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed proper functionalization of the GO sheets. Curcumin was applied as a fluorescent natural material with an emission peak at ∼550 nm wavelength for green fluorescent labeling of the functionalized-GO sheets. The curcumin-labeled functionalized-GO sheets showed an intense emission band fluorescent property with...

    Abstract
The goal of this paper is to describe essential criteria for image analysis of planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) signals. A new image file conversion method is introduced and some typical illustrative examples showing the potential applications of the method in PLIF experiments are presented. Analysis of row, column, and total pixel counts, and the dark noise related to an image are discussed. Image segmentation, averaging and background correction can be easily done by the reported method. In our analysis it is straightforward to inspect the pixel counts and check for saturation of the camera sensors. It is also feasible to obtain a particular row or column for interpretation and it...

Highly sensitive turn-on fluorescent detection of captopril based on energy transfer between fluorescein isothiocyanate and gold nanoparticles

    , Article Journal of Luminescence ; Volume 134 , 2013 , Pages 874-879 ; 00222313 (ISSN) Hormozi Nezhad, M. R ; Bagheri, H ; Bohloul, A ; Taheri, N ; Robatjazi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
A novel approach for highly sensitive detection of captopril was developed based on the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), in which FITC acts as the donor and Au NPs as the acceptor. The fluorescence intensity of fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) was strictly quenched as a result of noncovalently adsorbed on Au NPs. Upon the addition of captopril, the fluorescence intensity of FITC turn-on due to the competition between captopril and FITC towards the surface of Au NPs. Under the optimum conditions, the fluorescence intensity of the released FITC displays a linear relationship in the range of 20 μg L-1 to...

    Elsevier  2016
    Abstract
Fluorescence spectroscopy of a series of N2O2-donor naphthodiaza-crown macrocyclic ligands, L1-L4 , in ethanol revealed that Cu(II) cation had remarkable fluorescence quenching effect during complex formation with L2 and L3 , while Zn(II) displayed noticeable enhancement on the fluorescence emission of L1 and L4 , respectively. Fluorescence quantum yields of Ln (L1-L4 ) as well as their complexes Ln /M (II) (M=Cu, and Zn) were found as 0.11-0.34, respectively. The complementary experiments on determination of the limit of detection indicated (LOD) that L2 and L3 were highly selective for detection of Cu(II) while L1 and L4 were selective towards Zn(II), respectively. Using Benesi-Hildebrand...

    Abstract
To find metal ion recognition by L (L = O2N2-donor naphthodiaza-crown macrocyclic ligand), the complexes [ML]2+ (M = Cd, Hg and Pb) were synthesized and characterized by IR, 1H, 13C NMR, and mass spectrometry, as well as elemental microanalysis. Hg(II) showed perceptible enhancement of the fluorescence of L in which ultra-low limit of detection for Hg(II) by L was determined as 1 nM in ethanol and DMSO. L reserved selectivity of Hg(II) in its binary mixtures with metal cations in solution. A 1 : 1 stoichiometry was found for the interaction of Hg(II) with L while Benesi–Hildebrand method was applied to calculate its complexation binding constant (K BH) employing fluorescence...

    , Article Polyhedron ; Volume 133 , 2017 , Pages 419-432 ; 02775387 (ISSN) Ghanbari, B ; Shahhoseini, L ; Kubicki, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The complexes of zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP) with the azacrown macrocycles bearing pyridine moiety (bp, 1p) as the axial ligand were synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR, 1H and 13C NMR, fluorescence, UV–Vis, together with TD DFT calculations. Solution study by employing 1H NMR spectroscopy for ZnTPPbenz and ZnTPPH complexes elucidated that the pyridine moiety was bonded through the fifth-coordination site on the zinc metal atom. The observation of hypsochromic shifts of ca. 15 nm for Q(0,1) (the strongest emission) as well as ca. 15 nm for Q(0,0) (the second) bands testified to significant difference in the fluorescence of ZnTPPbenz...

Design of a ratiometric fluorescent probe for naked eye detection of dopamine

    , Article Analytical Methods ; Volume 9, Issue 23 , 2017 , Pages 3505-3512 ; 17599660 (ISSN) Farahmand Nejad, M. A ; Hormozi Nezhad, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A simple and effective ratiometric fluorescence sensor for selective detection of dopamine (DA) in alkaline media has been developed by simply mixing thioglycolic acid (TGA) functionalized orange fluorescent cadmium telluride (CdTe) quantum dots (QDs) with amino-functionalized blue fluorescent carbon nanodots (CDs). Under a single excitation wavelength of 365 nm, the sensor exhibits dual-emissions centered at 445 and 603 nm. The fluorescence of CdTe QDs is selectively quenched by DA, whereas the fluorescence of CDs is insensitive to the analyte. In the presence of different amounts of DA, the variations in the dual emission intensity ratios exhibit a continuous color change from pink to...
