Free vibration analysis of multilayered functionally graded composite cylinder

    , Article ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, Proceedings (IMECE), 12 November 2010 through 18 November 2010 ; Volume 13 , 2010 , Pages 441-450 ; 9780791844502 (ISBN) Kargarnovin, M. H ; Hashemi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Free vibration of multilayered composite cylinder which volume fraction of fiber varies according to power law in longitudinal direction has been studied. Rule of mixture model and reverse of that are employed to represent elastic properties of this fibrous functionally graded composite. Straindisplacement relations employed are based on Reissner- Naghdi-Berry's shell theory. The displacement finite element model of the governing equations of motion is derived by writing weak form of them. The Lagrangian shape functions for in-plane displacements and Hermitian shape functions for displacement in normal direction to the surface of mid-plane are utilized by defining a conformal quadrilateral...

Toughness prediction in functionally graded Al6061/SiCp composites produced by roll-bonding

    , Article Ceramics International ; Vol. 40, issue. 6 , 2014 , pp. 8809-8825 Pouraliakbar, H ; Hosseini Monazzah, A ; Bagheri, R ; Seyed Reihani, S. M ; Khalaj, G ; Nazari, A ; Jandaghi, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Functionally graded aluminum matrix composites (FGAMC) are new advanced materials with promising applications due to their unique characteristics in which composite nature is combined with graded structure. Different architectures of Al6061/SiCp composite laminates were fabricated by successive hot roll-bonding. For FGAMCs, two composite layers as outer strips and a layer of Al1050 as interlayer were applied. To investigate laminate toughness, the quasi-static three-point bending test was conducted in the crack divider orientation. Genetic programming as a soft computing technique was implemented to find mathematical correlations between architectural parameters and experimentally obtained...

Spark plasma sintering of ultrafine YSZ reinforced Cu matrix functionally graded composite

    Abstract
Copper matrix composites have received more attentions as possible candidate for thermal and electrical conductive materials to be used in electrical contact applications. In this study, five-layered Cu/YSZ (yttria-stabilized zirconia) functionally graded material (FGM) and copper matrix composite specimens containing 3 and 5 vol% YSZ particles plus pure Cu specimen were synthesized using powder metallurgy (PM) route and spark plasma sintering (SPS) consolidation process. The microstructural and some physical, mechanical features of all specimens were characterized. Microscopic examinations showed that ultrafine YSZ particles were distributed in the copper matrix almost homogeneously. An...

Co-sintering of M2/17-4PH powders for fabrication of functional graded composite layers

    , Article Journal of Composite Materials ; Volume 44, Issue 4 , 2010 , Pages 417-435 ; 00219983 (ISSN) Firouzdor, V ; Simchi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Stepwise-graded composite layer of M2 tool stel and 17-4PH stainless steel was fabricated by a simple powder layering technique and the isothermal and nonisothermal sintering response of the bilayer were examined. It was shown that the materials exhibit poor compatibility during co-sintering, i.e., the amount of mismatch shrinkage is significant. An improved compatibility was obtained by adding 0.2 wt% B to the stainless steel powder. Formation of relatively dense layer at the bonding zone indicated an enhanced densification rate at the interface. Microstructural studies showed formation of a ferritic interface in M2/17-4PH composite and elongated grains with an intergranular boride phase...
