Effect of microstructure on attenuation mechanism of ultrasonic waves in carbon steels
, Article Materials Science and Technology ; Volume 26, Issue 4 , 2010 , Pages 482-486 ; 02670836 (ISSN) ; Vahid Dastjerdi, H ; Mahdavi, R ; Rasouli, D ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
In this paper, fundamental concepts of ultrasonics and characteristics of distinctive microstructures have been used to simply explain the effect of microstructure on the attenuation mechanism of ultrasonic waves in carbon steels. In addition, it has been shown that application of the second medium hardness instead of the bulk hardness is more appropriate to correlate the sound velocity and the microstructure

Abstract
Chiral discrimination has always been a hot topic in chemical, food and pharmaceutical industries, especially when dealing with chiral drugs. Enantiomeric recognition not only leads to better understanding of the mechanism of molecular recognition in biological systems, but may further assist in developing useful molecular devices in biochemical and pharmaceutical studies. By emerging nanotechnology and exploiting nanomaterials in sensing applications, a great deal of attention has been given to the design of optical nanoprobes that are able to discriminate enantiomers of chiral analytes. This review explains how engineering nanoparticles (NPs) with desired physicochemical properties allows...
Trading strategies for wind capacity investment in a dynamic model of combined tradable green certificate and electricity markets
, Article IET Generation, Transmission and Distribution ; Volume 6, Issue 4 , 2012 , Pages 320-330 ; 17518687 (ISSN) ; Hosseini, S. H ; Sharif University of Technology
2012
Abstract
In this study, a time simulation model for long-term wind capacity investment decisions in the presence of an electricity market and a tradable green certificate (TGC) market is proposed. Decisions related to the investments in the wind capacity are fundamentally based on incentives gained from both of these markets. Fundamental concepts and models of these markets are described. The TGC price trend-following and value-trading strategies for both generation and distribution companies and the regulatory policies for the limitation of TGC holding time and TGC borrowing fraction are included. In this study, a new dynamic model of coupled TGC and electricity markets is considered in order to...
Spiral microchannel with stair-like cross section for size-based particle separation

Abstract
Particle separation has a variety of applications in biology, chemistry and industry. Among them, circulating tumor cells (CTCs) separation has drawn significant attention to itself due to its high impact on both cancer diagnosis and therapeutics. In recent years, there has been growing interest in using inertial microfluidics to separate micro/nano particles based on their sizes. This technique offers label-free, high-throughput and efficient separation and can be easily fabricated. However, further improvements are needed for potential clinical applications. In this study, a novel inertial separation technique using spiral microchannel having stair-like cross section is introduced. The...
Educational robot for principles of electrical engineering

Abstract
An educational robot is described, which is designed and constructed for use in the laboratory of Principles of Electrical Engineering. The discrete nature of design, conforming to a simple block strategy, allows for fairly easy introduction of basic and fundamental concepts of Electrical Engineering to the freshman students, including control, actuation, wireless signal transmission, and analogue/digital conversions. Each block or module represents one or few engineering ideas and helps the students to understand the interplay and connection between system divisions, and enhance their creative thinking. Circuits are designed and implemented such that both structure and functionality of each...
Building the external knowledge map for iranian manufacturing SMEs
, Article Proceedings of the European Conference on Knowledge Management, ECKM, 4 September 2008 through 5 September 2008, Southampton ; 2008 , Pages 565-574 ; 20488963 (ISSN); 9781905305537 (ISBN) ; Ashoori, M. T ; Behdad, K ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
It is widely recognized that knowledge is an essential strategic resource for a firm to achieve sustainable competitive advantage and Knowledge Management (KM) is a fundamental concept for those interested in the ever changing business world. However, KM has received little attention in Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs). Unique characteristics of SMEs affect their approach in knowledge management, so different KM processes should be applied in these firms. SMEs have very simple structures, so they have less difficulty in managing their internal knowledge than large organizations. But this is not the case for external knowledge management, especially external knowledge acquisition...
