Reducing access latency of MLC PCMs through line striping
, Article Proceedings - International Symposium on Computer Architecture ; Article number 6853228 , 14-18 June , 2014 , p. 277-288 ; ISSN: 10636897 ; ISBN: 9781479943968 ; Arjomand, M ; Sarbazi-Azad, H ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Although phase change memory with multi-bit storage capability (known as MLC PCM) offers a good combination of high bit-density and non-volatility, its performance is severely impacted by the increased read/write latency. Regarding read operation, access latency increases almost linearly with respect to cell density (the number of bits stored in a cell). Since reads are latency critical, they can seriously impact system performance. This paper alleviates the problem of slow reads in the MLC PCM by exploiting a fundamental property of MLC devices: the Most-Significant Bit (MSB) of MLC cells can be read as fast as SLC cells, while reading the Least-Significant Bits (LSBs) is slower. We propose...
Flocking of multi-agent dynamic systems with virtual leader having the reduced number of informed agents

Abstract
In this paper, three fundamental properties of a potential field-based flocking algorithm, i.e. merging of neighbouring graphs during the system evolution, collision avoidance and convergence of position of the centre of mass of informed agents to that of virtual leader are discussed. Next, these properties are utilized to determine required number of informed agents based on initial position of uninformed ones and consequently reduce the domain of search in optimization problems defined for finding the optimal number of required informed agents. Finally, a new optimization framework is proposed, which benefits Voronoi diagrams in order to reduce the number of informed agents required for...

Abstract
Asphaltene deposition in the early stage of the oil reservoir life and later during any stimulation process emerges critical problems to the petroleum industry. Deposition of asphaltene aggregates raises strict problems in industries and demands markedly a practical and scientific knowledge of the mechanisms of aggregation and precipitation. Fluorescence emission spectroscopy has been widely used to illuminate the fundamental properties of crude oils and asphaltenes. It proposes analysis of some details of equilibrium, dynamic behavior, and aggregation composition of crude oil under specific condition. In this work, the fluorescence spectra of crude-oil extracted asphaltene samples were...

Abstract
Moving from two-dimensional hexagonal boron nitride (2D h-BN) flatlands towards their quantum sized zero-dimensional (0D) islands, as the newest member of the h-BN family, has recently opened up novel research areas due to the emergence of unique optical and physicochemical properties, excellent thermal and chemical stability, and desirable biocompatibility. This review elaborates on the fundamental properties of 2D and 0D h-BN nanomaterials and covers the latest progress in the fabrication and applications of BN nanosheets (BNNSs) and quantum dots (BNQDs). Initially, the transformation of properties in h-BN nanomaterials is discussed when moving from the 2D realm towards the 0D quantum...
