Impact of initial ensembles on posterior distribution of ensemble-based assimilation methods

    , Article Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering ; Volume 171 , 2018 , Pages 82-98 ; 09204105 (ISSN) Jahanbakhshi, S ; Pishvaie, M. R ; Bozorgmehry Boozarjomehry, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study, impact of initial ensembles on posterior distribution of ensemble-based assimilation methods is statistically analyzed. Along with, sampling performance as well as uncertainty quantification of these methods are compared in terms of their ability to accurately and consistently evaluate unknown reservoir model parameters and reservoir future performance. For this purpose, a synthetic test problem, which is a small but highly nonlinear reservoir model under two-phase flow, is utilized. Subsequently, different initial ensemble sets are considered and are updated through the assimilation process performed on the test problem using ensemble-based assimilation methods. Afterwards,...

Using Web-GIS technology as a smart tool for resiliency management to monitor wind farms performances (Ganjeh site, Iran)

    , Article International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology ; 2018 ; 17351472 (ISSN) Aghajani, D ; Abbaspour, M ; Radfar, R ; Mohammadi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Center for Environmental and Energy Research and Studies  2018
    Abstract
Considering the wide spread locations of wind farms in Iran, it is important to develop a suitable decision support system (DSS) to fulfill proper management of wind farms. Extensive literature survey indicates that there are no integrated forms of DSS to manage a set of wind farms. The existing wind farms are performing independently, and there is no practical method for exchanging the online data. DSS can contribute to optimal operation of wind farms, operation and maintenance scheduling, pricing policy, etc. In this study, a geographic information system and RETSCREEN software were linked to the designed DSS to achieve a more suitable result. Also, a huge number of data are constantly...

Network-level pavement roughness prediction model for rehabilitation recommendations

    , Article Transportation Research Record ; Issue 2155 , 2010 , Pages 124-133 ; 03611981 (ISSN) Kargah Ostadi, N ; Stoffels, S. M ; Tabatabaee, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Pavement performance models are key components of any pavement management system (PMS). These models are used in a network-level PMS to predict future performance of a pavement section and identify the maintenance and rehabilitation needs. They are also used to estimate the network conditions after the application of various maintenance and rehabilitation alternatives and to determine the relative cost effectiveness of each maintenance and rehabilitation alternative. Change in pavement surface roughness over time is one of the most important performance indicators in this regard. A model for changes in the international roughness index (IRI) over time was developed through artificial neural...
