    Variable gain current mirror for high-speed applications

    Abstract
    This paper presents a new high speed current mirror with continuous gain adjustment. Based on this current mirror, a variable gain current amplifier is designed in 0.18μm CMOS technology. The current gain of the amplifier can be continuously varied from 0 dB to 20 dB while the bandwidth of the circuit remains above 1.00 MHz. The circuit consumes 0.9 mW from 1.5V supply. © IEICE 2007

    Abstract
    In this paper, the variational method is employed for minimizing the gain ripple of multi-wavelength fiber Raman amplifiers. The variance of gain spectrum of the fiber Raman amplifier is regarded as the cost function, restriction on total pump power and average gain is given as the constraints of the minimization problem. It is shown that the minimization problem with any necessary constraints on the pump powers, average gain and signal to noise ratio, is reduced to a two-point boundary value problem.     Abstract
    A combination of coupled microrings that are coupled to a bus waveguide is proposed as a wide-band microring Raman amplifier. This structure is called one channel coupled microrings (OCCM) Raman amplifier. It is shown analytically that the number of poles in the OCCM transfer function is greater than the square of microrings number (N). The gain bandwidth and gain ripple of the proposed amplifier are increased and decreased, respectively due to increasing the number of poles and zeros in the transfer function. An iterative matrix method is introduced to solve Raman equations in the amplifier with arbitrary number of microrings and Genetic algorithm is employed to maximize the gain flatness

    Analytical data-driven tuning procedures with the aim of adjusting the values of frequency-domain specifications, e.g., gain margin, phase margin, and corresponding crossover frequencies, are among the most popular control techniques in industrial control. But, the multiplicity of crossover frequencies, as an Achilles' heel in these procedures, may cause that the obtained control system does not meet the intended frequency-domain objectives.     Abstract
    In this paper, an algebraic tuning rule is presented for fractional PI controllers to control first order plus dead-time processes. By using the performance map (PM) method, this tuning rule is derived in order to set the gain margin of the control system close to 3 and the phase margin close to 60 degrees. The robustness and performance of this tuning rule are compared with some well-known PI tuning rules. Simulation results are brought to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of this tuning formula against process dynamic uncertainties in comparison with the other tuning methods

    Abstract
    The governing equations of optical fiber Raman amplifier with broadband pumps in the steady state are systems of uncountable nonlinear ordinary differential equations (NODE). In this paper, the Moment method is used to reduce the uncountable system of NODE to a system of finite number of NODE. This system of equations is solved numerically. The results are compared with that of the full numerical method. It was shown that the Moment method is a precise and efficient technique for analysis of optical fiber Raman amplifier with broadband pumps. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    Abstract
    Passive radars use illuminators of opportunity to detect target and measure its parameters. The usual processing routine consists of direct path interference and clutter removal and computation of cross ambiguity function (CAF) to estimate ampIitude-range-Doppler surface. Main parameters affecting this procedure are direct path interference and clutter, receiver thermal noise and near large targets. This paper presents an investigation on effect of each parameter and tries to estimate processing gain of each Block.     Abstract
    We propose a perturbation method for time division multiplexed (TDM) pumping fiber Raman amplifier (FRA). The method is based on the solution of Raman partial differential equations (PDEs) by a closed integral form. Taking the signals and pumps power as the interim solution and updating their values in an iterative process, Raman gain and pump/signal evolution can be calculated in any order of accuracy. In the first order of perturbation, some analytical formulas for the FRA dynamic control are obtained. Analytical formulas are employed for gain ripple minimization and also the gain clamping problem under channel reconfiguration. © 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

    Alice wants to convey the value of a parameter to Bob with whom she does not share a reference frame. What physical object can she use for this task? Shall she encode this value into the angle between two physical vectors such as the angle between two spins? Can she benefit from using entanglement? We investigate these questions here and show that an entangled state of two qubits has three parameters that are invariant under changes of the reference frame.     An analytical procedure for aeroservoplastic stability analysis of guided supersonic flight vehicles is developed by using slender body aerodynamic theory and modal analysis techniques. The roll channel is decoupled from pitch and yaw channels by using the linearized system of equations. Results show that divergence is the only aeroelastic instability that can occur for the nonrolling flight vehicle with no-control loop and is accurately computed using the first bending mode shape. The result of the divergence analysis demonstrates that the vehicle elasticity has a destabilizing effect on the pitch and yaw channels.     This paper presents a small open economy, dynamic general equilibrium model with cash-in advance constraint and a currency attack to explain the dynamic effects of changes in trade barriers in the short and long run. The model is calibrated using data on macroeconomic variables in Iran's economy from 1990 to 2013 to identify and analyze the effects of barriers imposed on trade. We analyze the effects of counterfactual fiscal, monetary and exchange rate policies in response to trade barriers and show how the economy would respond in different time horizons.     Abstract
    A 3rd order, 1.1 MHz, lowpass butterworth Gm-c filter has been combined with a low noise Variable Gain Amplifier to form the Variable Gain Filter (VGF). In this VGF an improved transconductor is used and a new method is used to adjust the transconductance gain for tuning application. A continuous variable gain current-to-current converter is used to tune the transconductor value. The THD of the VGF is -85 dB for 1 Vppd input signal and -50 dB for 3 Vppd input signal. VGF gain can be varied from 0 to 31 dB with 1 dB variation steps. Input referred noise is 20 nV/√Hz for maximum gain. All the circuits are designed based on a 0.25 μm CMOS process technology

    A new approach for the design of two-stage Miller-compensated CMOS op amps is presented. The paper studies the basic relations between power consumption, unitygain bandwidth, the biasing region, technology parameters, and the external capacitive load. As a result, simple and efficient design guides are provided to achieve the minimum possible power consumption for the given specifications and for short-channel devices.     This paper presents a bandwidth enhancement technique for broadband Darlington amplifiers. A detailed analysis of the high-frequency performance of the Darlington amplifier and the effect of bandwidth enhancement is provided. A design procedure is also given for broadband feedback Darlington amplifiers with bandwidth enhancement and gain flattening. A single- and a three-stage feedback amplifier with the proposed improvements are designed and implemented in a 0.25-μm Al-GaAs-InGaAs pHEMT technology.     An extension to conventional Hidden Markov Model (HMM)-based speech enhancement method is developed. An algebraic method is proposed to estimate gain of speech and noise in order to improve the quality of the estimated speech. Different pronunciations and intonations may affect speech gain. Besides, gain of noise may vary remarkably from one environment to the other one. This may lead in a mismatch between energy contour of trained models and energy contour of noisy speech signal.
