    Abstract
    Image annotation approaches need an annotated dataset to learn a model for the relation between images and words. Unfortunately, preparing a labeled dataset is highly time consuming and expensive. In this work, we describe the development of an annotation system in semi-supervised learning framework which by incorporating unlabeled images into training phase reduces the system demand to labeled images. Our approach constructs a generative model for each semantic class in two main steps. First, based on Gamma distribution, a generative model is constructed for each semantic class using labeled images in that class.     Abstract
    In this study, we introduce a multivariate gamma distribution, then, by defining a new statistic, three control charts called the MG charts, are proposed for this distribution. The first control chart is based on the exact distribution of this statistic, the second control chart is based on the Satterthwaite approximation, and the last is based on the normal approximation. The efficiency of the proposed control charts is evaluated by the average run length (ARL) criterion. The results show that whenever the magnitude of the parameter shifts c<1, the control chart based on the exact distribution has smaller ARL1s, while for c>1, the control chart based on Satterthwaite approximation show...

    Abstract
    A new Voronoi diagram in Laguerre geometry based on closed-pack non-overlapping circles was proposed. This diagram was used to simulate microstructure of severely deformed materials at different applied strains. Grains size and their fractions were introduced by controlling the size and distribution of nuclei. Edge number distribution and neighboring cells edge number along with area distribution of the simulated Voronoi cells were determined. The edge number distribution was observed to fit gamma distribution more accurately. However, due to high inhomogeneity in the microstructure of the deformed samples at low strains, edge number distribution could not be matched by any distribution...

    Abstract
    Use of infrared light for indoor wireless communications has received considerable attention recently. In this paper, we present results obtained from a large set of measurements performed at the University of Ottawa. We investigate impacts of receiver rotation and shadowing on the properties of indoor infrared channels. This paper contains a description of a measurement system developed and used throughout the experiments. Measurement results are used to find and present methods to estimate variations of channel path loss for small changes in the receiver direction, using statistical techniques.     If at least one out of two serial machines that produce a specific product in manufacturing environments malfunctions, there will be non conforming items produced. Determining the optimal time of the machines' maintenance is the one of major concerns. While a convenient common practice for this kind of problem is to fit a single probability distribution to the combined defect data, it does not adequately capture the fact that there are two different underlying causes of failures.     Abstract
    In order to design a decision-making framework in production environments, in this study, we use both the stochastic dynamic programming and Bayesian inference concepts. Using the posterior probability of the production process to be in state λ (the hazard rate of defective products), first we formulate the problem into a stochastic dynamic programming model. Next, we derive some properties for the optimal value of the objective function. Then, we propose a solution algorithm. At the end, the applications and the performances of the proposed methodology are demonstrated by two numerical examples. © 2007 Asian Network for Scientific Information

    This paper considers the possibility and the details of implementing adaptive networks with visible light communication technology. Adaptive networks have various indoor and outdoor applications hence, their implementations with light waves face with different problems. Almost all free space optical (FSO)communication systems must deal with two channel deficiencies namely, optical noise and channel turbulence.
