Design of a gas lift system to increase oil production from an Iranian offshore well with high water cut

    , Article Australian Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences ; Volume 5, Issue 11 , 2011 , Pages 1561-1565 ; 19918178 (ISSN) Beiranvand, M. S ; Morshedi, S ; Sedaghat, M. H ; Aghahoseini, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
One of the most important production issues in oil fields is high water production which may lead to wells killing and reduction in an economical production period. With the increment of water production or decrease of reservoir pressure, reservoir drawdown pressure reduces which causes reduction in oil production rate. To preserve the reservoir production, we should apply one of the proposed methods; namely, increasing the reservoir pressure, preventing water source invasion or using artificial lift technique. To compensate this reduction, continuous gas injection into the wells can be used. The injected gas combines with fluid in tubing and the density of the fluid decreases, thereby...

    Abstract
A hybrid genetic algorithm (HGA) was introduced to allocate optimum amount of gas. This method was applied to a group of wells in gas lift in the case of availability limited amount of gas. For testing the ability of the proposed HGA, the results of this work with those of previous works in a field with six wells were compared. Then for an Iranian southern west oil field with nine wells, gas allocation is performed using different amount of available gas. The results show that the introduced method (HGA) is very efficient tool in gas allocation issue

    Abstract
At the early stages of production, oil reservoirs may have enough energy to push the oil from the reservoir into the wellbore and subsequently from the wellbore to the surface. When the reservoir energy is too low for the well to flow, or the production rate desired is greater than the reservoir energy can deliver, using some kind of artificial lift method to provide the energy to bring the fluid to the surface, seems to be necessary. Continuous flow gas lift is one of the most common artificial lift methods widely used in the oil industry during which, at appropriate pressure, gas is injected in a suitable depth into the tubing to gasify the oil column, and thus assist the production. Each...

Each well has an optimal point at which it will produce the most oil. In ideal conditions, at which there is no limitation in the total amount of available gas, a sufficient amount...

Real time optimization of a natural gas lift system with a differential evaluation method

    , Article Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization and Environmental Effects ; Vol. 36, issue. 3 , 2014 , pp. 309-322 ; ISSN: 15567036 Frooqnia, A ; Pishvaie, M. R ; Aminshahidy, B ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This article presents a method for optimizing and controlling an oil production system using a natural gas lift concept. Ever increasing development of Smart Well technology and various applications of down-hole monitoring and controlling instruments along with new methods of data acquisition/transmission make it possible for the natural gas lift system to be controlled and optimized more effectively and faster than before. With this technology it is possible to monitor the down-hole conditions of gas and oil zones and to control the inflow valves in gas and oil zones. In this work, a proportional integral differential feedback controller has been used to smartly control the entrance of gas...

Experimental investigation of characteristic curve for gas-lift pump

    , Article Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering ; Volume 62, Issue 1 , 2014 , Pages 156-170 ; ISSN: 09204105 Hanafizadeh, P ; Raffiee, A. H ; Saidi, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Using gas-liquid lifting pumps is a quite different technology for pumping two or three phase flows rather than other types of pumping systems. Therefore, finding performance characteristic chart for this type of pumping system seems to be necessary. In this type of pumping system, the liquid phase is pushed upward by the compressed air which has been injected in the bottom of upriser pipe of the pump. Therefore, compressed air acts as the driving force in gas lifting pumps instead of moving parts in ordinary pumps. It can be concluded that the definition of characteristic curve used for ordinary pump is not very appropriate for this type of pumping system. In this study, it has been...

Optimization of Gas Allocation to a Group of Wells in Gas Lift

    Abstract
When the reservoir energy is too low for the well to flow, or the production rate desired is greater than the reservoir energy can deliver, it becomes necessary to put the well on some form of artificial lift to provide the energy to bring the fluid to the surface. Continuous flow gas lift is one of the most common artificial lift methods widely used in the oil industry. In continuous gas lift, gas at high-pressure is injected in a suitable depth into the tubing, to gasify the oil column, and thus facilitate the production. Every well has an optimal gas lift operating point at which it will produce the most fluid. Ideally, if there is no restriction in the total amount of gas available,...

Study of ESP and Gas Lift Applications On low Productivity Wells of Alvand Oil Field

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Pornouri, Pouria (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Alavand Oil field is located 50 Km away from west of Siri Island and includes DPG and DPH platforms. The production from Alavand field started in 1998 and till now 11 wells have been totally drilled .Since a production peak in 2001, the oil production in Alvand field has decreased. Water cut is increasing and reservoir pressure is decreasing gradually. Considering poor reservoir characteristic of this reservoir, productivity indexes of wells are relatively low. In addition; natural depletion of reservoir caused the wells to be unable to flow naturally and either closed or produce periodically consequently. To increase production and extend the lifetime of Alvand field, it is decided to start...
