    Abstract
In this letter, we study the joint source-channel coding problem of communicating the linear functions of correlated Gaussian sources over a Gaussian multiple access channel. In this setup, each transmitter observes one of two correlated sources. The receiver aims to reconstruct a linear combination of both correlated Gaussian sources within an average distortion level. For this setup, we first obtain a new lower bound on the achievable distortion and then, we propose a novel lattice-based hybrid transmission scheme and its achievable distortion is derived. We show that our proposed scheme can achieve the optimal distortion under some conditions

A distortion outer bound for communicating correlated gaussian sources over a gaussian MAC

    , Article IEEE Communications Letters ; Volume 21, Issue 7 , 2017 , Pages 1457-1460 ; 10897798 (ISSN) Setayesh, M ; Behroozi, H ; Khalaj, B. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this letter, we consider two problems of sending a bivariate Gaussian source through a two-user Gaussian non-orthogonal multiple-access channel. We provide a new distortion outer bound for the considered joint source-channel coding problems, which significantly reduces the gap between inner and outer bounds of the distortion for correlation coefficients below a threshold. Furthermore, numerical results show, that under some conditions, our proposed outer bound matches with the inner bound obtained via the separate source-channel coding scheme, which proves the optimality of this scheme. © 1997-2012 IEEE

    Source Coding with Polar Codes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Eghbalian Arani, Sajjad (Author) ; Behroozi, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Polar codes were introduced by Arikan in 2009. These codes are the first family of codes that with low encoding complexity and successive cancellation decoder, can achieve the channel capacity. Polar codes, at first were implemented for channel coding, but in 2010 performance of these codes in binary and q-ary alphabet source was studied. It is shown that these codes can perform efficiently in channel coding and source coding. On the other hand, one of the most important continuous sources are Gaussian sources. Due to the importance of Gaussian sources and good performance of polar codes, we try to evaluate the performance of these codes in Gaussian sources. Note that, these codes have...

    Abstract
In this work, we study the lossy source coding of a Gaussian source with polar codes. We show through two distributions on discrete alphabet, quantized approach as well as Central Limit Theorem (CLT) approach, when the alphabet size grows to infinity, polar codes can achieve the rate distortion bound for a Gaussian source. By comparing the rate of convergence on two distributions, we show that the quantized approach have a better convergence rate than the CLT approach

    Abstract
In this work, we study the performance of polar codes for lossy compression of a Gaussian source with a side information at decoder; known as the quadratic-Gaussian Wyner-Ziv problem. First we extend the binary polar codes to q-ary for the Wyner-Ziv problem. We show that the nested q- Ary polar codes are optimal for this case. Then we present two polar coding schemes for the Gaussian Wyner-Ziv problem. In the first scheme, we achieve a rate above the Wyner-Ziv rate-distortion function with a gap of 0.5 bits compared with the optimal rate. This scheme utilizes a successive cancellation decoder and is optimal in weak side-information cases when the decoder side-information noise variance is...

    Abstract
In this paper, we consider the problem of transmitting a Bi-variate Gaussian source S = (S1, S2) over an average-power-limited additive White Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. The receiver wants to estimate both S1 and S2. We propose a new Hybrid Digital Analog (HDA) joint source-channel coding scheme and obtain its achievable distortion region. For comparison, we also obtain an outer bound for the set of all achievable distortion pairs

    Abstract
This paper analyzes the problem of transmitting a Gaussian source over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel in the presence of an unknown interference. The goal is to estimate the source at the receiver with minimum mean squared error (MMSE) distortion. We introduce a lattice-based coding scheme and calculate its achievable distortion. If the interference distribution and the lattice voronoi region satisfy some conditions, the effect of interference can be reduced

    Abstract
We study hybrid digital-analog (HDA) joint source-channel coding schemes in transmitting an analog Gaussian source over an AWGN channel in the presence of an interference, correlated with the source. We analyze these schemes to obtain achievable (mean-squared error) distortion-power tradeoffs. For comparison, we also obtain two outer bounds for the achievable distortion-power tradeoff; those are two necessary conditions under which (D,P) is achievable. Using numerical examples, we demonstrate that, a two-layered coding scheme consisting of analog and Costa coding performs well compared to other provided HDA schemes

Transmitting Correlated Gaussian Sources over a Gaussian Multiple-Access Channel

    Abstract
This thesis considers the problem of communicating correlated Gaussian sources through a Gaussian multiple-access channel (MAC). A well known application of these problems is a sensor network. In a distributed sensor network, sensors measure the required parameters from the environment, encode and transmit them to a fusion center through a multiple-access channel. Then, the fusion center makes a decision about the environmental measured parameters by data processing on the received data from sensors. In these networks, one of the main concerns is the power limitation at sensors. As a result, we usually look for an encoding method that is not only simple but also has a nearly optimal...

    Abstract
In this paper, we propose a modified joint source-channel coding (JSCC) scheme on the transmission of an analog Gaussian source over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel in the presence of an interference, correlated with the source. This setting naturally generalizes the problem of sending a single Gaussian source over an AWGN channel, in the case of bandwidth-matched, and with uncorrelated interference in which separation-based scheme with Costa coding is optimal. We analyze the modifeied scheme to obtain achievable (mean-squared error) distortion-power tradeoff. For comparison, we also obtain a new outer bound for the achievable distortion-power tradeoff. Using numerical...

    Abstract
In this work, we consider the problem of communicating linear functions of correlated Gaussian sources over a two-user additive Gaussian noise multiple access channel (MAC) in the presence of known interference at the transmitter. The goal is to estimate a linear combination of two sources at the receiver with minimum average mean squared error (MSE) distortion. Here, a lattice-based coding scheme is presented and its achievable distortion is analyzed. In addition, two lower bounds on the achievable distortion are derived. The proposed lattice coding scheme can cancel channel interference completely
