    Abstract
High mountains and cold climate in the north-west of Iran are critical factors for the design of optimized District Heating (DH) systems and energy-efficient buildings. It is essential to consider the Life Cycle Cost (LCC) that includes all costs, such as initial investment and operating costs, for designing an optimum DH system. Moreover, considering climate change for accurately predicting the required heating load is also necessary. In this research, a general optimization is carried out for the first time with the aim of a new design concept of a DH system according to a LCC, while considering all-involved parameters. This optimized design is based on various parameters such as ceiling...

A decomposed solution to multiple-energy carriers optimal power flow

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Power Systems ; Vol. 29, issue. 2 , March , 2014 , p. 707-716 ; ISSN: 8858950 Moeini-Aghtaie, M ; Abbaspour, A ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Hajipour, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Presence of energy hubs in the future vision of energy networks creates a great opportunity for system planners and operators to move towards more efficient systems. The role of energy hubs as the intermediate in multi-carrier energy (MCE) systems calls for a generic framework to study the new upcoming technical as well as economical effects on the system performance. In response, this paper attempts to develop a general optimization and modeling framework for coupled power flow studies on different energy infrastructures. This, as a large-scale nonlinear problem, is approached through a robust optimization technique, i.e., multi-agent genetic algorithm (MAGA). The proposed procedure...

Developing a hierarchical scheme for outage management in multi-microgrids

    , Article IEEE Eindhoven PowerTech, PowerTech 2015 ; 2015 ; 9781479976935 (ISBN) Farzin, H ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Moeini Aghtaie, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper investigates the performance of a smart distribution system comprised of multi-microgrids during emergency conditions. It also proposes a hierarchical scheme for outage management in such a system to enhance the security of supply during contingencies. This goal is achieved through sharing the available generation and storage capacities among different microgrids. In this regard, at first, a well-organized framework is devised in order to introduce the roles and tasks of each player in operation stage of a multi-microgrids system. Based on this framework, the general optimization model that needs to be evaluated in the proposed outage management scheme is formulated. Then, various...

    Abstract
This paper proposes a hierarchical outage management scheme to enhance the resilience of a smart distribution system comprised of multi-microgrids against unexpected disaster events. In this regard, after identifying the main features and requirements for a resilient outage management scheme, an appropriate framework is devised and the roles and tasks of different management entities in a multi-microgrids system are introduced. Based on this framework, the microgrids schedule their available resources in the first stage using a novel model predictive control-based algorithm. In the second stage, distribution system operator coordinates the possible power transfers among the microgrids and...

    Abstract
This paper investigates the operation of a smart distribution system comprised of multiple microgrids during emergency conditions. It proposes a two-stage hierarchical scheme for outage management in such a system to enhance the security of supply during contingencies. This goal is achieved through sharing the available generation and storage capacities among different microgrids. In doing so, a well-organized framework is devised in order to introduce the roles and tasks of each player in operation stage of a multi-microgrids system. Based on this framework, the general optimization model that needs to be evaluated at each stage of the proposed outage management scheme is formulated. In...
