    Abstract
    A new acceleration technique for the ray tracing algorithm was presented in this paper. Instead of reducing the number of intersection tests, our proposed method finds the solid angles around the transmitter that transport electromagnetic power to the receiver. Then, high-resolution rays are sent out only in these solid angles and the procedure continues iteratively. Since a few rays are traced in each iteration, high resolution can be achieved within acceptable amount of time

    In this thesis, the unwanted effects of diffraction and defocus aberration in three-dimensional (3D) integral imaging are taken into account by using the principles of Fourier optics approach. First, the indirect reconstruction of 3D images is simulated by using the geometrical optics and then the direct reconstruction process is simulated via Fourier optics. The role of diffraction and defocus aberration in deterioration of the depth of field is studied for both real/virtual and focused modes of integral imaging.     Interferometric Laser Imaging for Droplet Sizing (ILIDS)in Sparse Sprays

    Abstract
    In the present work we first introduced ILIDS and review the theory of interferometry and light scattering from droplets. Bases on ILIDS method, droplets are irradiated by monochrome sheet laser, where the superposition of reflected and first-order refracted beams form a parallel fringe pattern at out of focus plane on the imaging sensor in the forward-scatter region. This pattern can be related to the droplet size by using simple geometrical optics. For the present work, an image processing algorithm is utilized to capture weak and noisy images of droplets to reduce the lost data in the sizing procedure.     Abstract
    A video watermarking scheme is proposed in this paper using the concept of the secret sharing scheme. The owner's mark is split into twin shares, where the shares are inserted into the video frames in the spatial domain in a simple manner. The detection algorithm uses a linear function applied to the twin shares to reconstruct the secret. This makes the watermarked video sequence robust against pirate attacks, such as frame averaging and frame swapping.     Abstract
    In this letter, a new approach to perform edge detection is presented using an all-dielectric complimentary metal-oxide-semiconductor-compatible metasurface. Our design is based on the guided-mode resonance, which provides a high quality factor resonance to make the edge detection experimentally realizable. The proposed structure is easy to fabricate, and it can be exploited for detection of edges in two dimensions due to its symmetry. In addition, a tradeoff between gain and the resolution of edge detection is discussed, which can be adjusted using appropriate design parameters.     In this paper, we report on the design, simulation and measurement of a flat-top beam shaper (FBS) lens for a millimeter-wave (mm-wave) antenna coupled source. The beam shaper is designed to transform the pseudo-Gaussian beam of the mm-wave source into a flat-top beam of sharp roll-off at a specific distance in the Fresnel region. Firstly, relying on the geometrical optics principles, we propose an analytical formulation for the design of lens profiles. Next, a simple optimization method based on the full-wave simulation of the lens and the mm-wave antenna is suggested to tune the analytically extracted lens profile.     Abstract
    The roughness of glass surfaces after different stages of etching is investigated by reflection measurements with a spectrophotometer, light scattering, atomic force microscopy (AFM, on a small scale) and profilometry (on a large scale). The results suggest that there are three regimes during etching, according to their optical reflectivity and roughness. The first and the second regimes are studied by the Kirchhoff theory and the third one is studied by the optical geometric theory.     Abstract
    Context. Brown dwarfs are transition objects between stars and planets that are still poorly understood, for which several competing mechanisms have been proposed to describe their formation. Mass measurements are generally difficult to carry out for isolated objects as well as for brown dwarfs orbiting low-mass stars, which are often too faint for a spectroscopic follow-up. Aims. Microlensing provides an alternative tool for the discovery and investigation of such faint systems.     Abstract
    Aims. We report the discovery of a planet with a high planet-to-star mass ratio in the microlensing event MOA-2009-BLG-387, which exhibited pronounced deviations over a 12-day interval, one of the longest for any planetary event. The host is an M dwarf, with a mass in the range 0.07 M ⊙ < Mhost < 0.49 M1 at 90% confidence. The planet-star mass ratio q = 0.0132 ± 0.003 has been measured extremely well, so at the best-estimated host mass, the planet mass is mp = 2.6 Jupiter masses for the median host mass, M = 0.19 M ⊙.     In this paper, we propose an accurate visible light indoor localization system for a smartphone using the commercial light-emitting diode (LED) panels which are used primarily for lighting. Each of designed lighting panel contains a space-colorcoded identifier, a matrix with a unique pattern of spatially separated colored LEDs, for labeling different positioning cells while the lighting color is kept white by balancing the number of different sets of colored LEDs.     This paper presents a novel and fast homography-based tracking method to segment and track the instructor placed in front of a class board using two synchronized views. In the proposed method we estimate the instructor as a planar object and track its planar parameters. At first, the homography of board and fundamental geometry of two views are extracted using six point correspondences. The homography transformation matrix of object is calculated by obtaining three point correspondences in parallax region introduced with homography of the board.
