    Abstract
Superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) nanomaterials are widely used as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents (CAs). These CAs significantly shorten transverse relaxation time (T2) and so decrease the intensity of the T2-weighted MRI (negative contrast imaging). However, the partial-volume effect is known to be one of the problems in negative contrast MRI. In this work, SPIO nanoparticles were modified by dextran and graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets to achieve a positive contrast MRI with high intensity. This modification resulted in shortening the longitudinal relaxation time (T1) of the SPIO nanoparticles (in addition to the T2 shortening)....

Polyacrylamide-grafted magnetic reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite: preparation and adsorption properties

    , Article Colloid and Polymer Science ; 2019 ; 0303402X (ISSN) Pourjavadi, A ; Nazari, M ; Kohestanian, M ; Hosseini, S. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer Verlag  2019
    Abstract
Magnetic reduced graphene oxide/polymer nanocomposites were prepared by in situ polymerization and grafting of polyacrylamide on the surface of functionalized magnetic reduced graphene oxide (rGO). Graphene oxide nanosheets were decorated with Fe3O4 nanoparticles, reduced and functionalized with 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate, and then grafted with polyacrylamide. Grafting of polyacrylamide makes magnetic rGO hydrophilic and highly water dispersible. The prepared material was used as adsorbent for removal of an anionic dye, Congo red, and a maximum adsorption capacity up to 166.7 mg g−1 was obtained. The kinetics and isotherm of adsorption and the effect of experimental condition on...

    Abstract
For the rapid detection of hyperglycemia in human blood, we adopted a facile and two-step electrochemical procedure to prepare nickel/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) hybrid electrodes in the framework of a three-dimensional (3D) nanostructure. High-density and vertically-aligned nickel submicrorods with an average diameter of 155 ± 15 nm and a length of 7 ± 1 μm (an aspect ratio of about 40-50) were prepared by template-mediated electrochemical deposition techniques. Networks of rGO nanosheets between the rod-shaped arrays were formed by the cathodic electrophoretic deposition method. The synergistic effect of nickel morphology (planar and high-density rod-shaped arrays) and graphene oxide...

    , Article Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids ; Volume 159 , 2021 ; 00223697 (ISSN) Salarizadeh, P ; Askari, M. B ; Beydaghi, H ; Rastgoo Deylami, M ; Rozati, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2021
    Abstract
In this study, we prepared cerium oxide (CeO2) hybridized with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets using the hydrothermal method. CeO2 and CeO2/rGO were evaluated as electrode materials for use in supercapacitor applications. The structure and morphology of the synthesized materials were investigated. Cyclic voltammetry tests determined a high specific capacitance of 581 F g−1 for CeO2/rGO at a scan rate of 10 mV s−1 in 2 M KOH. In addition, the CeO2/rGO electrode retained 91 % of its initial capacitance after 5000 consecutive cycles, thereby indicating its excellent electrochemical stability. The excellent stability of CeO2/rGO was due to a synergistic effect between CeO2 and rGO. CeO2...

    Abstract
We present a procedure for simultaneous deposition of enzyme-laden chitosan/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) film by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) for fast and efficient detection of glucose. The role of rGO nanosheets is studied on the EPD kinetics of the enzyme-laden suspensions. Investigating the performance of the biosensor by electrochemical techniques indicates its high sensitivity (9700 μA.mM−1.cm−2), low limit of detection (4 µM), and suitable selectivity. © 2021 Elsevier B.V

    Abstract
Graphene reinforced polymer derived carbon (carbon/graphene) aerogels were synthesized by carbonization of novolac/graphene oxide aerogels. Novolac/graphene oxide aerogels were synthesized using solvent-saturated-vapor-atmosphere technique. To this aim, 20 wt% solution of novolac resin with 0, 2, and 5 wt% graphene oxide in 2-propanol were made and were cured in an autoclave. Wet aerogels were dried in air and were carbonized at 800 °C in nitrogen atmosphere. Eliminating the time-consuming methods of drying like supercritical and freeze drying is one of the advantages of this method of synthesis of organic aerogles. Abstract
In this study, novel graphene oxide/chitosan nanocomposite coatings with long term drugeluting potential are presented. The coatings are fabricated by the facile and reproducible electrophoretic deposition technique. Analysis of the prepared films shows that the graphene oxide nanosheets are exfoliated in the chitosan matrix. Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry reveals polymer attachment to the carboxylic bonds of graphene oxide, providing a strong interaction and exfoliation of the nanolayers. In vitro viability assay by human osteosarcoma cells (MG-63) demonstrates that the nanocomposite films are highly biocompatible up to 30 wt% graphene oxide, but at higher concentrations a slight...

    Abstract
In this work, novel chitosan/bacterial cellulose (CS/BC) nanofibrous composites reinforced with graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets are introduced. As cell attachment and permeability of nanofibrous membranes highly depend on their fiber diameter, the working window for successful electrospinning to attain sound nanofibrous composites with a minimum fiber diameter was determined by using the response surface methodology. It is shown that the addition of GO nanosheets to CS/BC significantly reduces the average size of the polymeric fibers. Their mechanical properties are also influenced and can be tailored by the concentration of GO. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy reveals hydrogen bonding...

Photocatalytic reduction of graphene oxide nanosheets on TiO2 thin film for photoinactivation of bacteria in solar light irradiation

    , Article Journal of Physical Chemistry C ; Volume 113, Issue 47 , 2009 , Pages 20214-20220 ; 19327447 (ISSN) Akhavan, O ; Ghaderi, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Graphene oxide platelets synthesized by using a chemical exfoliation method were deposited on anatase TiO2 thin films. Postannealing of the graphene oxide/TiO2 thin films at 400 °C in air resulted in partial formation of a Ti-C bond between the platelets and their beneath thin film. By using atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses, UV-visible light-induced photocatalytic reduction of the graphene oxide platelets of the annealed graphene oxide/TiO2. thin films immersed in ethanol was studied for the different irradiation times. After 4 h of photocatalytic reduction, the vertical space between the platelets decreased from about 1.1 to less than 0.8 nm and the...

    Abstract
Chitosan films have a great potential to be used for wound dressing and food-packaging applications if their physicochemical properties including water vapor permeability, optical transparency, and hydrophilicity are tailored to practical demands. To address these points, in this study, chitosan (CS) was combined with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets (with a thickness of ∼1 nm and lateral dimensions of few micrometers). Flexible and transparent films with a high antibacterial capacity were prepared by solvent casting methods. By controlling the evaporation rate of the utilized solvent (1 vol % acidic acid in deionized water), self-organization of GO in the...

    Abstract
According to current researches, graphene oxide (GO) membranes show promising desalination properties due to ease of synthesis, low production cost, and high efficiency. There are several experimental works to study ionic sieving properties of GO membranes. However, it is difficult to characterize atomistic mechanism of water permeation and ion rejection by experimental approaches. On the other hand, there exist a few reports in which the atomistic picture of water permeation across GO membranes is investigated by means of molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. In the present work, in addition to water desalination, the atomic scale mechanism of ion rejection is studied using large scale MD...

    Abstract
During oil and gas well drilling, the filtration control of bentonite water-based drilling fluids (BT-WBDFs), as an environmentally friendly fluid, is crucial to avoid formation damage and swelling shale problems. One of the most critical problems is undesirable changes in the rheology and filtration properties of the BT-WBDFs because of salt contamination. Herein, the potential of using both graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets and a graphene oxide-polyacrylamide (GO-PAM) nanocomposite is evaluated for controlling the filtration properties, especially in a salty medium. First, GO nanosheets were functionalized, and then the GO-PAM nanocomposite was synthesized using the solution polymerization...
