    Abstract
Individuals have been regarded as independent decision makers in majority of transportation analysis. However, agents’ behaviors are usually affected by the interactions among the members in a group; and therefore, individual decision-making paradigms may result in unrealistic outcomes and erroneous interpretations of the results. In light of this, the present study develops discrete choice models in individual and group levels and compares their prediction power in predicting the choice of escort pattern in dual-worker households with at least one under-18-year-old student. The main purpose is to reveal the efficiency of each approach in analyzing parent-child joint activities and highlight...

Multiple attribute group decision making in interval type-2 fuzzy environment using a new distance formulation

    , Article International Journal of Operational Research ; Volume 24, Issue 1 , 2015 , Pages 17-37 ; 17457645 (ISSN) Heidarzade, A ; Mahdavi, I ; Mahdavi Amiri, N ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Type-2 fuzzy sets are generalisations of ordinary fuzzy sets in which the membership grades are characterised by fuzzy membership functions. Here, we consider the problem of finding the distance between two interval type-2 fuzzy sets (IT2-FSs). We define the formulation of calculating the distance between two IT2-FSs based on a new definition of centroid for an IT2-FS and explain an algorithm for obtaining it. Then, based on our proposed distance formulation, we present a method to deal with fuzzy multiple attributes group decision-making (FMAGDM) problems. We also use two examples to illustrate the FMAGDM process of the proposed method. The method provides us with a useful way to deal with...

Multiple attribute group decision making method using a new similarity measure in interval type-2 fuzzy sets: A case study

    , Article International Journal of Mathematics in Operational Research ; Volume 9, Issue 2 , 2016 , Pages 139-166 ; 17575850 (ISSN) Heidarzade, A ; Mahdavi, I ; Mahdavi Amiri, N ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Similarity measures are very important concepts in fuzzy sets theory. There are several definitions for similarity measures in both type-1 and interval type-2 fuzzy sets (IT2-FSs). Here, the problem of finding similarity between two IT2-FSs is considered. A new similarity measure is proposed and its performance is compared with existing approaches in literature. Furthermore, an application of this measure in multiple criteria group decision making problem is given. Based on the proposed similarity measure, the satisfaction degree for different alternatives are established which then are used to rank alternatives in multiple criteria group decision making. Finally, a case study concerning the...

Fuzzy group decision making model for identifying and ranking of success factors in fraud prevention in Iranian e-banking

    , Article Journal of Information Technology Management ; Volume 9, Issue 2 , 2017 , Pages 355-378 ; 20085893 (ISSN) Alizadeh, A ; Chehrehpak, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
With increasing use of e-banking system in Iranian banking sector, ignoring the issue of fraud in the system will be very costly for banks and e-banking customers. Fraud in e-banking is due to some security problems (such as weakness in access control systems and inadequate internal control). So, identifying success factor in fraud prevention in ebanking can be useful for e-banking system developers to improve these systems security. In this paper we have tried to identify and rank these success factors for fraud prevention in e-banking systems. For this purpose, we first review the literature to find potential factors, then identified factors were weighted by using fuzzy group multi...

A new mixed fuzzy-LP method for selecting the best supplier using fuzzy group decision making

    , Article Neural Computing and Applications ; Volume 23, Issue SUPPL1 , 2013 , Pages 345-352 ; 09410643 (ISSN) Sepehriar, A ; Eslamipoor, R ; Nobari, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Even though there have been so many articles and studies that focused on the supplier selection problem, a few of them considered the major decisions related to supplier selection. In this paper, the supplier selection problem is studied under a novel fuzzy approach in multiple sourcing conditions to select appropriate supplier in group decision-making environment regarding multiple sources. The use of the model is suitable in evaluating situations that involve subjectivity, vagueness and imprecise information. The group data have been used in multiple criteria decision making with multiple objective supplier selection. Trapezoidal fuzzy numbers are applied to evaluate the weights of...

Escort patterns in Dual-worker households with Students: A Comparison between Individual and Group Decision Making Mechanism

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahmati, Yalda (Author) ; Samimi, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Individuals have been regarded as independent decision makers in the majority of transportation analysis. However, individual behaviors are usually affected by the interactions between the members in group decisions; and consequently, individual decision making paradigm could result in less-accurate predictions. Besides, as the data used for travel demand modeling typically comes from household level surveys, the idea of random sampling holds at household level and not the individual; and therefore, individual information would not be consistent with the theory of the discrete choice models when the household is the actual sampling unit. The present paper aims at modeling the way that...

A new extended analytical hierarchy process technique with incomplete intervalvalued information for risk assessment in IT outsourcing

    , Article International Journal of Engineering, Transactions B: Applications ; Volume 30, Issue 5 , 2017 , Pages 739-748 ; 1728144X (ISSN) Ebrahimnejad, S ; Gitinavard, H ; Sohrabvandi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Information technology (IT) outsourcing has been recognized as a new methodology in many organizations. Yet making an appropriate decision with regard to selection and use of these methodologies may impose uncertainties and risks. Estimating the occurrence probability of risks and their impacts organizations goals may reduce their threats. In this study, an extended analytical hierarchical process method is tailored based on interval-valued hesitant fuzzy information to assess the risks in IT outsourcing. In the proposed approach, the weight of each decision maker is implemented in process of the proposed method by considering the concept of simple additive weighting method to decrease the...

A Model for Public Project Evaluation and Selection Based on Citizen Satisfaction

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Alizadeh, Alireza (Author) ; Kianfar, Fereydoon (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Public projects are those projects that are run by public financial resources such as tax or other national governmental incomes. Selection of these projects is relatively difficult due to their importance, long life-time, and high costs. In most models developed in previous studies to select public projects, financial matters and risks are the only factors which were considered. However, the public projects should naturally be selected in a way that citizens’ benefits are maximized (in both short- and long-term) and citizens’ living level increases. In other words, public projects should be selected to increase citizens’ satisfaction. In this thesis, a model for public projects is presented...

Group Decision Making in an Unascertained Environment

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirfendereski, Ali (Author) ; Eshghi, Kourosh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In complex human social activities, practical problems involve more prominent uncertainty, and deterministic approaches of classical methods become powerless. In this research, a new method for human group decision making is presented by using heterogeneous incomplete uncertain preference relations. The uncertain multiplicative preference relations, uncertain fuzzy preference relations, uncertain linguistic preference relations, intuitionistic fuzzy preference relations and Interval
preference sequence can be included in this method. Our new method consists of nine steps. In the first step, decision-makers preferences in the form of heterogeneous comparison matrixes are driven. In the...

A computational method for optimal design of the multi-tower heliostat field considering heliostats interactions

    , Article Energy ; Volume 106 , 2016 , Pages 240-252 ; 03605442 (ISSN) Piroozmand, P ; Boroushaki, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In multi-tower heliostat fields, although heliostats are capable of aiming at different receivers during the day, due to different orientations, neighboring heliostats might affect shading and blocking efficiency of each other reciprocally. In the proposed method of this paper, considering the mentioned effects and based on a group decision-making approach, each heliostat chooses the best receiver thus ensuring the highest possible instantaneous efficiency of the field. As a case study, this method is applied for the optimal design of a multi-tower field. Then, the field performance is simulated in a case where heliostats make decisions individually without considering the interactions....
