    Abstract
Background: There has been considerable interest in target immunotherapy in patients with diabetes. This study was designed to identify the effect of BCG vaccination in the treatment of Iranian patients with longstanding diabetes mellitus type 1. Methods: After approval of the cross-sectional study protocol by the ethics committee under number IRCT2017042919940N2, a total of 19 Iranian volunteers with diabetes mellitus type 1 completed this 48-month study. These patients received three 0.1 ml intradermal injections of BCG vaccination in weeks 0, 4 and 24. The serum level of glucose, HgbA1C and c-peptide was measured before and serially after the interventions. Insulin requirements were...

Design and fabrication of a centrifugal microfluidic disc including septum valve for measuring hemoglobin A1c in human whole blood using immunoturbidimetry method

    Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a global endemic with a rapidly increasing prevalence in both developing and developed countries. Recently, hemoglobin A1c has been recommended by the American Diabetes Associations as a possible substitute for fasting blood glucose for the diagnosis of diabetes, because it is an indicator of long-term glycemic control. Also, centrifugal microfluidic systems have good potential for use in the point of care testing systems. In this study, a centrifugal microfluidic disc was designed and manufactured to measure hemoglobin A1c in whole blood using an immunoturbidimetry based method. Also, a new passive valve, named septum valve, was presented to precisely control the entry...

Comparison between two different hemichromes of hemoglobins (HbA and HbS) induced by n-dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide: Chemometric study

    Abstract
The interaction of n-dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) with oxyhemoglobin A and oxyhemoglobin S is investigated using UV-visible absorption spectra and chemometric resolution techniques. Oxyhemoglobins (A and S) induced to partial oxidized form (ferrihemoglobin) by DTAB and finally transform to fully oxidized hemichrome. Hemichrome mole fractions of HbS are more than HbA because of more hydrophobic interaction of DTAB-HbS in second set of binding site relative to DTAB-HbA. The visible spectra between 500 and 650 nm are used for identifying the present components in solution because each species of hemoglobin has a specific spectrum in this region. The number of components and mole...
