    Development of a 3D multigroup program for dancoff factor calculation in pebble bed reactors

    Abstract
    The evaluation of multigroup constants in reactor calculations depends on several parameters. One of these parameters is the Dancoff factor which is used for calculating the resonance integral and flux depression in the resonance region in heterogeneous systems. In the current paper, a computer program (MCDAN-3D) is developed for calculating three dimensional black and gray Dancoff coefficients, based on Monte Carlo, escape probability and neutron free flight methods. The developed program is capable to calculate the Dancoff factor for an arbitrary arrangement of fuel and moderator pebbles.     Abstract
    This paper presents a new combined method for accurate upscaling of two-phase displacements in highly heterogeneous reservoirs. The method has the capability to retain its high performance for various flow regimes, from viscous to gravity dominant displacements, without the need for further modifications and computational steps. Two different grids are incorporated for simulation. The grid on fine scale is used to recognize the complicated physics of flow which depends on dominated driving forces and their interaction with heterogeneity.     Characterization of viscous fingering in low tension displacements especially for heavy oil surfactant pair in heterogeneous systems is neither straight forward nor well understood. In this work layered porous models containing fractures with different geometrical properties were used and the finger behavior during displacement of LTNS, as a new EOR agent, in heavy oil was quantified.     Several parameters, one of which is the Dancoff Factor (DF), are used to calculate the resonance integral (RI) and reduced flux in the resonance region of heterogeneous systems as well as to accurately determine the group constants for criticality calculations. This paper is a report on the development of a program to calculate the DF correction factor using Monte Carlo method and collision probability definition in three-dimensional (3-D) geometries and with multi energy groups.     CPU-GPU heterogeneous systems are emerging as architectures of choice for high-performance energy-efficient computing. Designing on-chip interconnects for such systems is challenging; CPUs typically benefit greatly from optimizations that reduce latency, but rarely saturate bandwidth or queueing resources. In contrast, GPUs generate intense traffic that produces local congestion, harming CPU performance. Congestion-optimized interconnects can mitigate this problem through larger virtual and physical channel resources.
