    An Investigation of Nonlinear Ultrasound Propagation in Soft-tissues and Transferred Energy

    Abstract
    In clinical applications of high intensity focused ultrasound, high amplitude acoustic waves are used to heat and ablate tumors and kidney stones. The high amplitude of ultrasonic waves leads to nonlinear effects within the acoustic filed. Heating stems from the acoustic power absorbed by tissues. The more the acoustic power is absorbed, the more the tissue temperature increases. On the other hand, more absorption means less penetration. Since the wave frequency is one of the important factors in power absorption, a compromise should be reached between the transferred energy and desired penetration depth.     Abstract
    A warm relativistic ideal fluid theory is proposed to study the dynamics of laser-induced high amplitude longitudinal waves in rarefied plasmas. It is demonstrated that fluid equations may be closed using an adiabatic approximation in the local rest frame of the plasma fluid. It is shown that considering three-dimensional thermal fluctuations of plasma for an interacting laser pulse that is invariant in transverse directions, considerably changes the features of describing fluid equations compared to that of previously considered one-dimensional thermal-fluctuations models. Because of the extensive application of circular plates in industry, attenuating the undesired vibrations is of foremost importance. In this paper, Adaptable Vibration Suppressors (AVSs) as a semi-active control approach were utilized to suppress the vibrations in a free circular plate under the concentrative harmonic excitation.     Abstract
    It is well-known that helicopters descending fast may enter the so-called Vortex Ring State (VRS), a region in the velocity space where the blade's lift differs significantly from regular regions and high amplitude fluctuations are often present. These fluctuations may lead to instability and, therefore, this region is avoided, typically by increasing the horizontal speed.     Abstract
    In this paper, a metric based symbol predistortion method is introduced for Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) reduction of the Space Frequency Block Coded (SFBC) Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems with two transmitter antennas. In the proposed method, a metric is defined which shows the contribution of each frequency domain symbol to the time domain samples with high amplitude at both antennas. Then, the symbols with the highest metric values are chosen and predistorted such that the peak powers are reduced while the SFBC relationship between two antennas holds constant.
