    Abstract
High availability of software systems is an essential requirement for pervasive computing environments. In such systems self-adaptation, using dynamic reconfiguration is also a key feature. However, dynamic reconfiguration potentially decreases the system availability by making parts of the system temporary frozen, especially during incomplete or faulty execution of the reconfiguration process. In this paper, we propose Assured Dynamic Reconfiguration Framework (ADRF), consisting of run-time analysis phases, assuring the desired correctness and completeness of dynamic reconfiguration process. We also specify factors that affect availability of reconfigurable software in pervasive computing...

Ranking locations for producing hydrogen using geothermal energy in Afghanistan

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; Volume 45, Issue 32 , 2020 , Pages 15924-15940 Mostafaeipour, A ; Hosseini Dehshiri, S. J ; Hosseini Dehshiri, S. S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Geothermal energy is a type of renewable energy with high availability and independence from climatic and atmospheric conditions. It has been shown that geothermal energy is technically, economically and environmentally more suitable for hydrogen production than other renewable sources. Hydrogen has wide applications in many fields including cooling, oil, gas, petrochemical, nuclear, and energy industries. Afghanistan has significant potential in geothermal power generation and also several hydrogen-consuming industries that provide opportunities for geothermal-based hydrogen production. This study attempted to find suitable locations for the construction of geothermal power plant for...

Availability modeling in redundant OpenStack private clouds

    Abstract
In cloud computing services, high availability is one of the quality of service requirements which is necessary to maintain customer confidence. High availability systems can be built by applying redundant nodes and multiple clusters in order to cope with software and hardware failures. Due to cloud computing complexity, dependability analysis of the cloud may require combining state-based and nonstate-based modeling techniques. This article proposes a hierarchical model combining reliability block diagrams and continuous time Markov chains to evaluate the availability of OpenStack private clouds, by considering different scenarios. The steady-state availability, downtime, and cost are used...
