Influence of the tip mass on the tip-sample interactions in TM-AFM

    , Article Ultramicroscopy ; Volume 111, Issue 8 , Jul , 2011 , Pages 1423-1436 ; 03043991 (ISSN) Pishkenari, H. N ; Meghdari, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper focuses on the influences of the tip mass ratio (the ratio of the tip mass to the cantilever mass), on the excitation of higher oscillation eigenmodes and also on the tip-sample interaction forces in tapping mode atomic force microscopy (TM-AFM). A precise model for the cantilever dynamics capable of accurate simulations is essential for the investigation of the tip mass effects on the interaction forces. In the present work, the finite element method (FEM) is used for modeling the AFM cantilever to consider the oscillations of higher eigenmodes oscillations. In addition, molecular dynamics (MD) is used to calculate precise data for the tip-sample force as a function of tip...

Wide adjustable range LLC resonant converter's maximum switching frequency for realizing the ZVS operation

    , Article Proceedings - 2010 18th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2010, 11 May 2010 through 13 May 2010 ; 2010 , Pages 745-752 ; 9781424467600 (ISBN) Beiranvand, R ; Rashidian, B ; Zolghadri, M. R ; Alavi, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, the FHA and a simple TDA approaches have been used to derive the normalized maximum switching frequency of wide adjustable range LLC resonant converter for realizing the ZVS operation even under the worst-case conditions. By accounting the resonant current higher harmonics, more accurate expressions are derived. These analyses demonstrate that the normalized maximum switching frequency depends on the dead-time and the converter inductance ratio. It also depends on the ratio of the converter resonant capacitor and the effective capacitance appeared in parallel with the power MOSFETs drain-sources. The simulated and experimental results are in good agreement with the derived...

    Abstract
In this paper, an analysis of the harmonic contents of the optical output power for an in-plane single mode laser diode is performed, and the results are described in detail. In the first step, the absolute value of power for each harmonic is obtained in terms of various laser diode parameters, and the variations of external parameters, such as modulation current, bias current and frequency, are discussed. The analysis is done by direct solution of the rate equations of an arbitrary laser diode for carrier and photon densities. It is known that the optical power has a nonlinear dependence on frequency, and the maximum optical power of each harmonic is attained in its resonance frequency. The...
